“We’d be nowhere if not for her.” River headed to the path leading away from the tree. “We should go. We need to rest up before Book Two comes out.”
“Think she’ll force us to get up with her at the crack of dawn every day again as she writes?” Thomas stood.
“Doesn’t bother me. I get a bigger role in the next book.” Clarimonde shifted to her vixen-lady self. “And I don’t sleep. Besides, there’s plenty of coffee in the morning and some tv bingeing in the evening.”
“Zach, you coming?” Chama put out her hand.
“No. I’m going to stay here with Gin for while. Curl up in her lap.”
“I can not believe it.” Chama joined the others.
“Is he coming or not?” Thomas asked.
“No! He is fooking staying. And guess why? I’ll tell you why. He is kissing ass so he can have a good part in Book Two.”
“That’s despicables.” Came a voice from nowhere.
River, Thomas, Chama, and Clarimonde looked in every direction, then shrugged and went on their way down the path.
Then…off in the distance, a coyote barked.
Thomas sprinted back to the tree.
