Pretty Fin- Raging Seas

He looked his son over. Lance was relieved. The child he mourned and never got a chance to prepare for was alive and well. The baby seemed well adjusted. His temperament was healthy and typical. Lance was happy. He had his babies on both shoulders. Fin became upset at his pain as tears fell from his eyes. She walked over to him slowly then bent down and kissed the top of her husband’s head. His tears were tears of joy. And he was the bravest and strongest man she knew.
He was her most fierce protector. And Zion would be the luckiest little boy alive. He had the father, of all fathers. Lance would be there for him. Love him. Guide and protect him the same way he had for their girls. Life was good. Fin stood over her husband. She looked to the stairs. Isla was obviously sleep. She would be awake soon. And they would have their first meal as a family. The sun was up. Fin looked out in the distance. There were secrets she would need to keep hidden. She hoped Lark stayed put. He had been in Malibu. Gotten a taste of what life was like there. And it didn’t escape her that he would want to see her, and Nimah would want to see him. It was all things that would have to be worked out. For the moment, there was peace. Life was good.
“Breakfast,” Fin shouted. She could here the sounds of small feet running from the hall. “Slow down before someone falls,” she said. Zion came to her and raised his arms to be picked up. “No breast today buddy. You’re killing mommy. Today you eat food,” Fin said. Isla and Nimah sat at the table. They were excited about there pancakes with strawberries on top and smiley faces made from butter and crème. Fin sat Zion in a high chair and sat pancakes in front of him that she cut into small squares.
“I’m going in. I’ll call you soon,” Lance said, as he kissed Fin before heading out the door. Lance bent over and kissed his girls then kissed his son’s forehead then left out. Fin grabbed the remote and turned their favorite cartoon on.
Zion clapped then stuck a pancake in his mouth. Fin was relieved. He watched his sisters then followed their lead. It was a relief. She was sore from constantly nursing him and she was ready to get him eating the food. Nimah had stopped nursing when she one and Isla never did.
Fin plopped down not far from her children so she could monitor breakfast before she would allow them out to play. They were creatures of habit. Breakfast always had to be followed by time outside. Fin grabbed a bottle of red nail polish and shook it up. She polished her nails and blew them dry and prepared to polish the other. Isla got down from the table then walked over to Zion. “He wants more juice mommy,” she said. Fin smiled. Isla was reading his mind again. “Okay baby. I will get it,” she said. Fin stood up and look out at the ocean as she walked towards the fridge. She thought she saw something. She narrowed her eyes trying to focus then stopped and stared. It was the head of a man. He was too far away to identify. Fin looked back at Nimah. She had stopped eating her food and was staring out at the water.
Oh no, Fin thought. If it was Lark returning then he would need to turn back. He was not welcomed there now. Fin stood at the sink looking out into the distance. She hoped the head never popped up again. And after several minutes it was obvious it wouldn’t. Fin exhaled. She was relieved. She grabbed the juice then sat back on the couch. Her mind raced. She looked at her hands. One was red. The other was nothing. She left them. She was now in no mood to polish the other. Only Lark would be in the water. No one else was supposed to know.
“Can we go out now?” Isla asked. “How about we play inside for a few hours. We can go out later. Okay,” Fin said. Isla reluctantly agreed. She still had a baby brother who was a delight to play with. Isla ran and got her toys. Fin got Zion out of the high chair. She looked towards the water again. Maybe I was seeing things. He wouldn’t, she thought, as she walked with Zion. Nimah followed them then ran past and jumped in her electric car. Fin placed Zion next to her, and Nimah put her foot on the peddle. The car moved slowly through the house. Fin smiled at their play. A smile that was hiding the truth of her reality. She anguished at what she had seen then tried convincing herself it wasn’t what it looked like. He wouldn’t. It wasn’t, she thought, as she followed behind the small car making sure Nimah let Zion have a turn. “Okay Nimah. Let Zion drive,” she said. Nimah got out and got on the other side.
Zion shrieked in excitement as he tried steering the car. Fin laughed. She was done with thoughts of worry. Whatever she saw didn’t matter. She was sure it was nothing. Past stresses had her needlessly worrying. She had more important things to tend to. She was the queen of an entire family. And she had her king. She was at her castle with the kingdom’s prince and princesses. And they were the rulers of their small world. There was no war. There was no battle for power. They lived for joy and happiness. And for the power of love.
