Can't Stop the Love of A Boss

“We are detectives with the Norfolk Police Department,” one of the gentlemen said.
“Nell, have they said anything about my baby yet? Who did this?” Auntie Laura asked Nell.
“Nikki’s hating ass attacked her while we were at the mall,” Nell answered.
“Nikki!” both ladies said with shocked expressions on their faces.
“Aye, what the fuck is going on in here?” Allen said as he and Murder walked in.
“Murder and Allen, I didn’t expect to see you two here. Where’s the other head of the three headed monster?” a detective asked.
“Kiss my ass. My girl is back there, so I have a reason to be here. You have that bitch who did this at the station. Why the fuck are y’all here with us? When you get back to the station, let that hoe know I’m gonna visit her when she gets out. We’ve got some shit to discuss,” Murder said.
“It’s not wise for you to threaten someone like that,” the detective said.
“What? Is it a crime to talk to mother fuckers now?” Murder asked with a smirk.
“Your reputation precedes you. Everyone knows that talking is the last thing you do. You’re not fooling us,” the detective told him.
“You can’t judge me off shit you heard. Are y’all done here?” Murder asked.
“We’re done here for now,” the other detective said before they both left.
“What the fuck happened?” Murder asked Nell.
Nell told them everything that happened from the time they left the car wash up to when she came out of the dressing room. The guys looked at each other multiple times as she told her story. Her mother and Auntie did the same thing.
“You know what we gotta do, right?” Allen asked, looking at Murder.
“Hell yeah, I gotta kill that hoe,” Murder said.
“How are y’all gonna do that if she’s locked up?” Nell asked.
They looked at each other and laughed.
“I have to make a call. I’ll be right back,” Allen said.
“Have the doctors come in yet?” Murder asked. “The last thing I need is for them to be fucking with her while trying to get to me,” Murder explained.
He knew how some cops were. They would try to use someone’s girl to turn on them or tell them something to get whoever it was hemmed up. That was the vibe Murder was getting from the cops, but he couldn’t dwell on that right now.
“I know, Murder. I’m not new to this,” Nell said with a forced smile. “No, they didn’t come in and say anything yet. Murder, what are we gonna do if she’s blind because of this?” Nell asked.
She looked at her mother consoling her auntie, and that sight alone made her wish death on her cousin.
“Get her ass a cane and a seeing eye dog. What the fuck did you think I was going to say? I’m in it to win it with Law Baby,” Murder said.
They sat for another three hours before anyone came to see them with an update about Lawrynn.
“Just give it to me straight, Doc. Is my wife gonna be able to see?” Murder asked.
Nell noticed how her auntie let Murder say what needed to be said to the doctors. Her aunt was standing there letting Murder handle things for his wife.
“Fortunately, I don’t think she’s lost her sight completely. She will have to wear protective gauze on her eyes and a pair of black out glasses for at least three months. She will be here for at least two weeks, so we can monitor her. She will have a prescription for a medicated solution to drop in her eyes three times a day. How well she responds to the medicine will determine if she stays longer than two weeks. Do you have any questions?” the doctor asked.
“When can we see her?” Nell asked.
“We’re getting her settled into her room. Once she is settled you can see her,” he answered.
“I think you ladies should go in first. I’m not leaving once I go in,” Murder said to Lawrynn’s mother and aunt.
“Go ahead down to the cafeteria, babygirl, I gotta talk to Murder right quick,” Allen said. They walked to the parking lot of the hospital before they started talking.
“What she say?” Murder asked.
“She said they haven’t booked Nikki yet, but they are going to charge her with malicious wounding and attempted murder. Once she gets booked and downtown Norfolk in a cell, she’s gonna hit me up to see what we want to do with her,” Allen said.
“Okay, cool. Tell Mrs. Ella thank you,” Murder told Allen.
Everybody in the hood thought that Mrs. Ella was selling dinners to put her son through college without the help of student loans, but she had worked at the Norfolk City jail for almost twenty years as a janitor. She knew her salary wouldn’t be able to cover his college expenses without some kind of help. Knowing that school loans were designed to keep you in debt, she wanted her son to not get caught up in the trap.
Instead of applying for loans, she did the next best thing; went to Murder and Pain to see if they could help. She never thought they would say they would pay for her sons schooling as long as he didn’t get anything lower than a C in any of his courses. From that point on, she sold dinners every weekend to make sure her son had some kind of spending money. She was going to do all she could for him not to worry about anything but his schooling, and she would always be there for Murder when he needed her.
So, when Allen called to ask her about Nikki and told her what Nikki did to land herself in jail, she was willing to give Murder whatever information he needed.
“That’s some good shit. Let me go in there to see what’s going on with my girl,” Murder told him.
He wasn’t waiting for the nurse or whoever to come take him to where Lawrynn was. When he saw that her mother and aunt were gone, he knew she had been settled in her room.
Chapter 22
“Yo, I need to know what room they moved my wife to,” Murder asked the nurse at the nurses’ station.
“I didn’t know you were married. What’s her name?” she asked.
“Lawrynn Chambers, and don’t get fucked up. How the hell you know me anyway? Don’t even answer that. Give me the damn number,” he told her.
“Room 821,” she said with and attitude.
With his left hand, Murder slid everything that was on the desk onto the floor.
“Pick that shit up with the same attitude you were giving me, bitch,” he said before walking to the room number she gave him.
Murder paused outside the door, praying that he didn’t lose it when he saw her. He pushed the door open to see Lawrynn with her eyes covered and taped like the doctor said they would be. The doctor didn’t tell him about the burns that were on her face as well.
The ladies had stopped talking when he walked in. They both saw the pain on Murder’s face as he looked at Lawrynn. There was no doubt in their minds that Murder was definitely going to do something to Nikki, and that something was going to be all bad, very fucking bad.
“Who is that?” Lawrynn asked.
“It’s me, baby,” he said with a cracking voice.
“Murder, Nikki did this shit to me! Can you believe that bitch?” she said.
Murder paused for a minute because he was expecting her to be broken up, crying, or something along those lines. Yet, here she was, pissed off instead of crying. He reached out to hold her hand.
“She’s gonna pay for this shit, baby. Trust me, I’m gonna get that bitch. I’m sorry I wasn’t there to stop this,” he told her.
Murder sat and listened to the ladies talk to each other. He looked at his watch, wondering when these two were going to go home. Although he knew they loved her and cared, her family wasn’t on his list of people he fucked with besides Nell. He couldn’t understand how the family could appear to be so close yet so far away. They had to know that Nikki was crazy as fuck long before this.
“We’re gonna get out of here. Murder, do you think you could walk some old ladies to the elevator? I know you’re not going too far from my baby, so the elevator will do just fine,” Laura said befor
e she gave Lawrynn a kiss. They walked to the elevator in silence before her mother started to talk. “Thank you for caring for my daughter. She hasn’t had a man to care for her like you do from what I’ve seen today. Before you do whatever it is you have planned for Nikki, let me talk to her first. That’s all I ask,” she told him.
Murder looked at her and nodded. He didn’t want to ask a bunch of questions that really didn’t need to be answered. Nikki was gonna get hers regardless of what they talked about. He just gave Lawrynn’s mother another head nod and turned to walk to the room.
Murder had been feeling guilty since he got back in the hospital room. There was no reason she should be there. It was his responsibility to protect her at all times. Lawrynn was his queen, and she deserved protection and so much more.
“Don’t sit over there feeing bad about this. If I want to be honest with you, Nikki has always tried to hurt Nell and me. It’s just that this time she had to find a new way to do it. You weren’t paying her any mind, so she turned to another way. None of this is your fault. If she didn’t do it today, she would’ve found another way to hurt me,” Lawrynn told him.
She knew her cousin was out to get her, but she never thought she would take it this far.
“I got something for that bitch,” Murder said.
“Whatever it is, either call me or have someone record it. I know I can’t see it right now, but I damn sure can hear it,” Lawrynn said.
“Whatever you say. How are you doing, though? Don’t lie either,” he said.
Murder knew this had to be fucking with her mental.
“I understand if you don’t want to be with me anymore. I’m blind, and even though the doctors say it may be temporary, the scars are here to stay. I know I may not be attractive to you when all the wraps and things come off. I’m not foolish enough to think that you’ll want to stay with me,” Lawrynn told him.
“What kind of red Kool-Aid did your grandma make because you and your cousin are crazy as fuck? I didn’t sit on the sidelines watching you go through all that shit just because you look good. I did it because I wanted you, meaning all of you. I don’t give a fuck if you never get your sight back. I will always be right here with your ass. I’m not talking about as a friend either. I’m still gonna marry you, shoot my nut all up in you, and have some kids with you. I’m not gonna keep addressing this shit to y’all asses either. We’re gonna get married, so get used to the thought now. Fuck all that other shit you’re talking about,” Murder told her.
He didn’t know what type of niggas Lawrynn was used to dealing with, but he was there to fucking stay.
“I love you, Murder,” Lawrynn told him.
“I love you too,” he responded. “I’ll tell you what. Since you feel like a nigga is only with you because you were able to see and shit, follow all the doctor’s rules, and we’ll get married after they take the bandages off. It doesn’t matter to me, but I want you to be able to see ya boy looking all good and shit in his tux when you walk down the aisle,” Murder said and laughed.
“Don’t make me feel like you’re all in just for you to leave me in the middle of the night or some shit like that,” she told him.
“What kind of food do you want me to try to sneak in here for you?” he asked, changing the subject all together.
“I want some of Our People’s Soulfood. I want the shrimp and grits,” Lawrynn said. She liked the new soul food spot that had just opened up a few months ago.
“Okay, is that it?” he asked.
“Yeah that’s it,” she told him.
“I’ll go get it tomorrow when Nell comes up here to sit with you. I’m staying here tonight and the rest of the nights that you’re here,” he said.
“Okay,” was her only reply.
~~
The next day, Murder and Lawrynn were talking and listening to the television. The door opened, and Pain walked in.
“What’s up, y’all?’ Pain said as he came in.
“Chilling,” Murder said.
“I just wanted to come let y’all know I didn’t have shit to do with this shit that Nikki did. I put her out of my house last week, and I don’t even talk to her about the baby. I don’t know what the fuck is up with her. I told her to leave y’all be. There’s no reason for her to be fucking with y’all,” he said.
“You should know that all of this has nothing to do with you. Nikki’s had a vendetta against me and Nell long before you came along. I appreciate you coming here to say your peace. I’m blind and all that but grown man shit sounds good coming from you. I appreciate it coming from you. Life is too short to hold grudges,” Lawrynn told him.
“Go ’head with that bullshit. It’s just that my actions started all this shit,” he said, shaking his head.
“Let me holla at you outside, Pain,” Murder said, getting up from his seat. They both walked outside. Murder wasted no time getting to the point. “I’m marrying Law Baby, and I want you to be my best man. I know you’re gonna have to think about it, but you’re still my brother from another. It’s only right that you stand by my side that day,” Murder said.
“Ain’t shit to think about. I’m right there with you. No doubt about it,” Pain said and slapped five with Murder.
“Are you going to get your baby mama out of jail?” Murder asked.
“Fuck nah, I told her what she was doing was gonna get her ass hemmed up. She’s on her fucking own,” Pain said.
Chapter 23
Nikki was sitting in the cell happy with herself and the thought that she had scarred her cousin for life. There was no way that Murder would still want to be with her after her face was burned and her ass couldn’t see. She didn’t care if she had to spend the next ten years in jail; it would all be worth it.
“Lewis, you’ve made bail,” Nikki heard the guard call out to her.
“Bail? What do you mean I made bail? Who bailed me out?” she asked, scared that Murder had been the one to bail her out.
“Somebody who cares, I guess. How the fuck should I know?” the guard asked as he unlocked the cell door.
Nikki wondered who the hell would come bail her out. If it was Murder, then she damn sure wouldn’t live to see tomorrow. Even if it was Pain, she figured she had a fifty-fifty chance of living to give birth to her baby. For the first time in her life, she was scared of what would happen to her. She wanted to turn around and go back inside the building when she saw LJ and Lamelle standing there waiting for her.
Why would Lawrynn’s brothers bail me out, and I’m in here for fucking up their sister? Nikki paused her steps for a moment, trying to figure out a quick escape plan.
“Go ’head and run so I can knock you the fuck out. Yeah, right here in the fucking police station. I’m begging you to test my gangsta today, bitch,” Lamelle said with a look of disgust on his face.
If it wasn’t for their mother calling them to get her out, she would rot in jail as far as Lamelle was concerned. It wasn’t a secret that Nikki got around, and that’s why he doesn’t fuck with her like that. Her fucking nothing ass niggas was one thing, but the way she attacked their sister was a whole new ballgame.
“What are you guys doing here?” she asked.
Nikki was nervous because although LJ and Lamelle were her cousins, she knew they wouldn’t hesitate to kill her ass behind their sister. Although they weren’t as bad as Murder when it came to killing people, they had a gruesome reputation of their own. Any other time, she wouldn’t be scared around them, but since she did what she did, she was downright afraid.
The brothers could see on her face how scared she was. They both knew that she didn’t have to be scared for her life today. Now, after their mother talks to her, she was gonna be fair game. Cousin or not, she had to pay for the shit she did.
“The sisters wanna talk to your dumb ass. When we get out there, get in the car and don’t say shit. If you even cough, I’m gonna punch your hateful ass in the head, stupid bitch,” LJ said then walked off and left his broth
er and cousin standing there.
Nikki turned to look at Lamelle. She was going to ask him what the sisters wanted until she saw his fist balled up at his side. She turned and walked behind her cousin, praying that something would happen, and she could get thrown back in jail.
The ride to where they were going was the most uncomfortable ride Nikki had ever taken. She was more scared than she had been in a long time. Her cousins had never really showed any emotion about anything she had done until now. Granted, this was the most drastic thing she had ever done, but Murder wasn’t trying to fuck her, so she had to do something.
They finally pulled up at Lawrynn’s mother’s house after the longest fifteen minutes ever.
“Get the fuck out. If you run, I’ll shoot your dumb ass,” LJ told her as he got out of the car.
Nikki slowly got out of the car, trying to figure out what the hell her aunties had to talk to her about. In all these years, they’d never wanted to talk about the things she did, so why now? Maybe I should’ve blinded her ass a long time ago? She mused.
“Ma, we here with the dumb bitch. Who gonna pay me my damn money back?” LJ asked as soon as his foot hit his mother’s floor.
“Cuss in my house one more damn time. Did you pay me back for all those times I bailed your dumb ass out of jail? No, your black ass didn’t. You want your money so damn bad, fight my ass for it. If you not gonna fight, then shut the fuck up. Don’t go in my kitchen either because, you didn’t buy a damn thing in there,” she told her son. She turned to look at her niece who had taken her daughter’s sight and shook her head. “Come in the living room,” she said as normal as she could.
Nikki followed her auntie, feeling the heat of the looks from her cousins as they made their way to the den. When she walked in the sisters were there looking at her like if they could kill her and get away with it they would.
“What the hell is going on with you? Why would you do that to your cousin?” Nikki’s auntie La-La asked.
