Finding Happiness in Los Angeles
Page 27
I like when we're just lying here in each other's arms. I run my hand over her elegant naked curves and I can't even believe how lucky I feel that I found her.
We like to watch these soothing scenery videos on YouTube. The flatscreen across the room from the bed is hooked up to the web so we can watch YouTube videos. There are videos where you can just watch a crackling fire place for hours. Or you can watch a creek gently splashing by to soothing New Age music. And you can pretend to be snuggling in a tent out in the wild somewhere.
There are videos of hours and hours of falling snow. So relaxing.
Sometimes we just quietly lie here for hours. We don't say a word while we're cuddling, with our arms and legs intertwined. And we just enjoy that moment of being in love and being together and content. We just lie here, blissfully happy, and feeling that feeling for hours.
Awake, but with our eyes closed.
There is no place I'd rather be than right here in bed, holding her while she's snuggled up in my arms. The soothing sound of YouTube rain lulls us to sleep.
I have no wants and no needs.
There's nothing I'd rather do. Nowhere I'd rather be. Not mingling with high society at a fancy party. Not on a yacht. Not in a fancy car. Not at a football game. Not out shopping for crap I don't need. Not at a restaurant.
I just want to be right here, in this moment, with her.
That's what happiness is: To be content.
THE END
I'LL LEAVE YOU WITH THESE FINAL THOUGHTS
"Capitalism unchecked is not a democratic system."
Serj Tankian
"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerated the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism: ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power."
Franklin D. Roosevelt
"In the Soviet Union, capitalism triumphed over communism. In this country, capitalism triumphed over democracy."
Fran Lebowitz
"What Trump represents is a restoration - a restoration of true American capitalism."
Steve Bannon
"U.S. capitalism is a mechanism for looting the many for the benefit of the few."
Paul Craig Roberts
"Capitalism is the legitimate racket of the ruling class."
Al Capone
"While there's capitalism, there'll be socialism, because there is always a response to injustice."
Ed Miliband
"Capitalism is against the things that we say we believe in - democracy, freedom of choice, fairness. It's not about any of those things now. It's about protecting the wealthy and legalizing greed."
Michael Moore
"Everybody's doing it. In capitalism, you try to get the highest price you can for a product."
Martin Shkreli
"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone."
John Maynard Keynes
"You show me a capitalist, and I'll show you a bloodsucker."
Malcolm X
"Nobody believes in completely unadulterated capitalism."
Bill Gates
"The problem with capitalism is that extreme wealth ends up in the hands of a few people."
Richard Branson
"Capitalism has destroyed our belief in any effective power but that of self interest backed by force."
George Bernard Shaw
"The government may change faces from time to time, but it's not like we fight wars for democracy - we fight wars for capitalism and for oil. "
Woody Harrelson
"Fascism is capitalism plus murder."
Upton Sinclair
"Capitalism is war; socialism is peace."
Karl Liebknecht
"Capitalism and democracy are the opposite of each other. Capitalism is a system that guarantees that a few are going to do very well, and everybody else is going to serve the few. Democracy means everybody has a seat at the table. Everybody."
Michael Moore
"Well, capitalism is a big problem, because with capitalism you're just going to keep buying and selling things until there's nothing else to buy and sell, which means gobbling up the planet."
Alice Walker
"As capitalism falters, the rich move their money out of the country, violence increases, and politicians promising prosperity are elected."
Robert Kiyosaki
"Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That's the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system."
Martin Luther King, Jr.
"The trouble with capitalism as a system is that only those who have or can get capital can make it work for them, and that leaves out damn near all of us."
Molly Ivins
"And if you look at the reality in the United States, where you have more than 40 million people below the poverty line and 42 million on food stamps, and then you look at poverty around the world, clearly the way we're running the engine of capitalism is not serving us well."
Simon Mainwaring
"Racism is a byproduct of capitalism."
Fred Hampton
"Capitalism is, fundamentally, an economic system that promotes inequality. "
Annalee Newitz
"We have two evils to fight, capitalism and racism. We must destroy both racism and capitalism."
Huey Newton
"Thank God for the young people who go out and demonstrate against rampant capitalism."
Helen Mirren
"No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one."
John Lennon
