“Why am I paying a therapist?”
“It’s a process, you’ll get there.”
But it hit me like lightening, I felt like I was already there. That concrete block on my chest had lifted and I could finally suck in a real lungful of free air.
The darkness had been blinded by a bright light and that part of me inside that was a monster became just another part of me, something that didn’t abhor me. I found the thought of acceptance… acceptable. The shadow inside me hadn’t gone, it was just encased by a ring of fire, a blaze.
“Marry me?” I asked her for the second time and this time I looked at her, meaning every damn word, letter and sound of those two words. Every feeling I had, every emotion running through me had never felt more in sync and right.
Flick looked back, the tone and intent of my request caused her to search my face and look for the change. Whatever she saw though was enough.
“Marry me?” I begged. “Marry me, Felicity Peters?”
Her eyes filled with water and I saw her swallow a couple of times, this was it. She was going to relent and give in to me.
And this time she flipped the script on me and whispered, “Yes.”
