Several hours later, he made it home. Opening the door, he found Amelia sitting on the couch playing Jeopardy with Pete. His heart swelled. The most beautiful set of green eyes turned his way and caused his heart to skip a beat. Yeah, he decided. His parents were right. Love at first sight existed and he was sunk.

“Hi.” A smile split Amelia’s face. “Why didn’t you tell me I’d be outwitted by a bird?”

“Thought he might scare you off,” Nolan replied, closing and locking the door behind him.

“Nah, we’re buds. Right, Pete?” She pulled a treat from the drawer of the end table and tossed it to Pete. “I hope you don’t mind. Pete showed me where the treats were kept.”

He caught it, ate it, then squawked, “Best buds, best buds.”

Nolan laughed, shaking his head. “I see he’s got you trained already.”

“Let’s just say,” she said on a husky breath as she stood, took his hat, placed it on her head, and then circled her arms around Nolan’s neck, “I’m a sucker for a cute face.”

“What’s your take on freckles?” He wrapped his arms around her waist and tugged her close. The playful look in her eyes heated his blood. She made his hat look good. Licking his lips, he bet she’d look great with nothing on but the hat.

“Wrapped around a sexy set of dimples,” she stated on an exaggerated sigh, “they’re perfect.”

Knowing he shouldn’t, but unable to hold back, Nolan said exactly what was on his mind. “Amelia, what do you think about love at first sight?”

Amelia leveled a gaze on him that nearly melted his soul. In a sexy

tone, she said, “I’m a firm believer in love at first sight.”

“I hoped you’d say that,” Nolan replied on a husky breath.

Without hesitation, he captured her mouth in a passionate kiss and knew he’d found the woman of a lifetime. In the background, Pete squawked.

“I’ll take romance for a thousand, Alex.”
