‘As ready as I’ll ever be,’ he mumbled. Troy was turning all shades of green.
Sarah wondered what the hell was going on. Troy had not said anything about making speeches.
‘Ladies and gentlemen,’ he started. ‘I have known this beautiful lady for almost a year. I love her dearly and I’m glad to be here wishing her the best on her birthday. I’d especially like to be there for every other birthday.’
Troy got down on a bended knee.
In that moment, Sarah realised what was happening. Her breath was caught in her throat. The crowd too gasped.
Troy pulled a small box out of his pocket, opened it, and presented it to Sarah. His hands were shaking. ‘Sarah Larson, will you marry me?’
Sarah was too choked up to answer. Troy looked at her anxiously as she stared back at him with her hands covering her mouth. She was so emotional she was trying not to cry in public.
‘Yes,’ she shouted. ‘You bet I will.’ She reached for the ring. Everyone broke out in applause.
‘Let me put it on,’ Troy said. She put her hand out and Troy slipped the ring on her finger.
It was a perfect fit.
About the Author
Lesley A. Meldrum was born and raised in the Queensland outback. She comes from a diverse background, comprised of the ancestral roots of the Gaelic Scots and Australian Aborigines, as well as heritage in Afghanistan, China, England, and Ireland.
Since a young age, Lesley Meldrum has been interested in the allure of the unknown and the supernatural. She has encountered a wide variety of unearthly phenomena that have clearly shown her there are worlds beyond this one. After being raised an atheist, she began to look for answers to these unexplainable happenings in Christianity. Her baptism and newfound faith gave her sanctuary and respite, but not the answers she was looking for. She is now on a non-conforming pursuit of open learning and discovery and considers herself to be a seeker on a spiritual journey.
Lesley is always reading and researching, especially the unbelievable histories of the ancient and medieval eras. She loves to share this esoteric knowledge with like-minded individuals, though these are often hard to find. In her solitude, she likes to conduct tarot readings, and meditate when the world seems too much.
In recent years, Lesley arrived at a crossroads – whether to express her interests in research or fiction. The result of that decision lies before you in her debut novel, Indicator of a Curse. Her love of literature and creative writing continues to be a source of empathy and solace and she hopes that her work, pieced together from her own experiences, dreams, and relentless research, will yield a sincere and similar response in the reader.
