Yours Truly

Her in those shorts she knew would make me crazy and that top that showed off her perfect assets. That hair that flowed out like a velvet cape as the wind whipped it up. She was perfection. She was my wife and the woman was perfection in every essence.

“I love you, you crazy guy.”

  “I love you too baby.”

While she took Coop over to the seating area to put on his mini life jacket I jumped back down on the docks and took a moment to observe.

Every once in a while I did that. I looked back to where I came from, and forward at the present. To what I had. All that I had and all that I’d accomplished.

Between Olivia and me, we’d both come far.

  Very far.

The two of us were like a power couple and we achieved so much together. It was phenomenal.

I did join the FBI. I worked as an intelligence analyst and I did like it. I had a great job that I actually loved and it fulfilled that element of using my skills and abilities that I’d always wanted to do.

It worked for me. I also got to live here. Olivia and I got married three months after I proposed. She wanted to get married before Coop came because she wanted to fit into her dress while she still could and didn’t look too pregnant.

We then got this place. A two story beach house right out on the seafront. Of course I had to get a boat, and not just any old boat.

I got us a big sailboat that could be used for all sorts of adventures.

Coop, Olivia’s brother, my very best friend, would have loved it.

I think he did. I felt sometimes he was with me. In life we were always together. Always, and always had each other’s backs.

I felt it was still the same. He never really left me.

I got back on the boat and released the last rope holding it in. looking back to Olivia I smiled and felt that inner peace that always filled me, and always would.

She was still my good thing that happened to me and I was enjoying falling in love with her every day.

Jada and I sat at our usual seat in Jake’s spot. Her with a steaming mug of hot chocolate and me with mine.

I had extra marshmallows today and chocolate sprinkles.

“Okay, so I thought when you became senior partner that was it. You’d finished climbing the ladder of success.” Jada rolled her eyes.

  “Not entirely.” I giggled.

“Oh God, so what now? You want more?” She frowned.

“ No, I actually don’t.” Last week I got offered the position of being even more senior than I already was. Marcus again. He was leaving to get married and start his own firm In Chicago. Being a long standing employee of Silvermans he had a higher level of seniority and more voting rights than the newer partners like myself.

I was offered his position and given a few weeks to think about it.

  “So, you don’t want more?”

I shook my head. “No, I think I’m going to say no because I’m happy with what I have.”

Jada’s mouth dropped. “You? Happy with what you have?” She feigned surprise.

“I am. I did what I said I’d do and I’ve decided I don’t need anymore.” I became senior partner last year and I loved it just as I thought I would. I was the woman I saw in my dreams when I first decided I wanted to study law. It was however, a very demanding job and I just about managed to deal with the day to day and balance my family life.

The woman I saw way back when also had a family and she was happy. That was me. I was happy with what I had.

Sam, Coop. My husband and my little baby.

They made my world and were my everything.

“Me next. I want that too Olivia. That’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard you say. You teaching me now.”

“Jada you know you could always have whatever you wanted.”

“Yeah. I’ll work on it.” She nodded then she looked over my shoulder and started chuckling. “So, Olivia, your gorgeous husband just came through the door. He knows your supposed to be working right?” she giggled and I looked over my shoulder to see Sam coming through the doors indeed.

He was supposed to be at work too. He came up to us and that smile of his grew wider.

  “Ladies.”

“Hello Agent Lieutenant Sam.” Jada always made a point of calling him that. We both started laughing. “What would bring you out here at this hour on a Tuesday morning?” Jada arched a perfect brow.

“Yes, what indeed.” I couldn’t wait to hear this.

“I got to work and felt like a break with my girl so I came to get her.” He stretched out his hand for me to take.

“Okay.” I took his hand and laughed. “What does this break involve?”

Sam leaned in close to my ear. “Just come be bad with me baby.”

Jada rolled her eyes as I stood.

“I’ll just finish this by myself.” Jada frowned but started laughing.

Sam whisked me away, out of the café and into the street where he grabbed me for a kiss.

He didn’t care who was watching, or where we were. Neither did I.

This was us perpetually in love and I didn’t see us being any different to how we were now.

We’d just get better at being us.

Us, always and forever in love.
