Using both hands, he grabbed her pants and underwear and pulled them down her hips, his mouth never leaving her neck. Stacy released her hold on him to help get the items off her body as quickly as possible. Throwing the garments on the floor, she carefully repositioned herself, bending one leg to give him free access to her body.

Her eyes closed as a moan escaped her lips when his fingers parted her to circle her clit. He used one hand to tease her sex as the other returned to her breast, pushing her shirt higher as he did. He pressed his hand against her harder, shifting lower until one of his fingers entered her wet pussy. He quickly added another and her hips were arching closer to him as she tried to encourage him to thrust deeper into her.

She felt something sharp pressing against her neck, but paid no attention to it as his fingers left her to circle her clit before plunging back into her. Raising her arms, she skimmed her nails over his muscles until she was able to tangle her hands in his thick hair. Her moans became one drawn out sound as she was nearing orgasm, thanks to his talented touch.

Her pussy clenched around his fingers, trying to draw them deeper into her body as pleasure swept over her.

She could feel his mouth moving against her flesh and realized that he was drinking from her. She didn’t think she’d have realized what he was doing under ordinary circumstances. It didn’t feel the way she’d imagined it would. She had been suspecting any reaction from an orgasm simply from his bite to pain. But she’d never have suspected that she wouldn’t really feel him. That it would feel as though he were merely giving her a hickey.

Paying close attention now that her orgasm was subsiding, she was able to discern when his teeth left her.

“Are you okay?” Jack asked, still holding her. His breath wafted over her flesh.

“Yes.” Leaning her head back on his shoulder, her entire body rested against him, completely relaxed.

  “I’m glad.”

Shifting her position slightly, she could feel the erection pressing against her back. “Would you like to continue this somewhere more comfortable?” she suggested hesitantly. “Where we’d have more room?” Truthfully, she was more than a little nervous about doing more with Jack. Part of her felt like she was betraying Demetri. But they’d made no promises. They’d agreed that they were just friends. Friends with benefits. Besides, Jack had gone out of his way to make her feel comfortable all night. And it wasn’t like being intimate with him was a hardship. She really was attracted to him.

“Are you sure? I mean, you don’t have to do anything you don’t—”

She stopped him with a kiss. As her tongue entered his mouth, she could taste lingering traces of her blood. It was weird, but not disgusting as she’d feared it might be. She could taste him and a hint of something coppery, almost tangy. Ending the kiss, she looked into his eyes. “I’m sure.”

They climbed off the couch together, and Stacy saw the notebook she’d used for writing down notes that he needed typed and organized.

“Shit. I forgot that we were supposed to be wor—”

Jack scooped her up in his arms and seemed to speed through her apartment. She wasn’t sure if he moved so quickly on purpose or if it was a reflex, but she felt a little disoriented when her bed was suddenly in front of her. Thank goodness she’d changed her sheets! If she hadn’t, that would’ve been more than a little awkward—at least for her.

Standing there, the reality of her situation began to dawn. “I don’t just...that is to say I’m not—I don’t bring every guy back to my—”

“I know. We have just as many gossips in our community as you do. And more than a couple of them have made it their duty to find out as much about your past as possible.”

Stacy sputtered. “Why would anyone want to know about my boring life? Did you ask them?” She grew suspicious. Her anger vanished as quickly as it appeared. It would be the smart thing to do when meeting with an associate for the first time. She couldn’t really blame him for wanting to know a little about her, for being careful. Though it did sting her pride a little.

“No. For one thing, I know Ms. Pope knows what she’s doing. She wouldn’t have hired you if there were any doubts to your character or your ability to do the job. For another, the fact that Demetri extended his friendship speaks more than words that he respects you. And finally...” He leaned down to nibble lightly on her neck, his teeth grazing gently on her flesh. “If you were some whacko who wanted to destroy anyone who was not mortal...Mmmmm, well I can think of much worse scenery to look at as I die.” His hands lowered from her waist and cupped her bare ass, pressing her closer to him.

“I wouldn’t...” Damn, she was breathless. And he hadn’t done anything to her. Okay, he had, but that was out on the couch. And when did she become so unconcerned about walking around practically naked? Why would she care when she had a man like Jack doing sinful things to her body?

“I know. The last was a joke,” he said, his breath caressing her ear. “But only the last one. I do want you Stacy.”

Stacy was finding it hard to think. Swallowing the slight lump in her throat that betrayed her nervousness, she said, “Then why are you still talking?”

Cool air flowing against her hot flesh was the only signal she got that he’d removed her top. When he looked down at her, she felt herself blushing. She knew she had a body that most men liked to look at, but there was always that part of her that wondered if they found the same flaws she did when she looked at her reflection.

To ease her increasing anxiety, she giggled as she brought her hands up to scrape his chest with her nails. Her fingertips trailed against his stomach, and her smile broadened when she felt him flinch slightly beneath her touch.

“What’s the matter? Are you ticklish?” she teased.

  “Actually, yes.”

With another giggle, Stacy wiggled her fingers against his sides, delighted when he tried to pull back. But somehow, they’d gotten turned so that the bed was directly behind him. She got to see him fall backwards on the bed, not with the graceful fluidity that she’d witnessed from him all night, but with a startled “oof”.

Climbing on top of him, she straddled him despite the sweat pants that were still covering him.

“Stop,” he half pleaded, half laughed.

“Don’t tell me no one tickles you...” She continued her fun torment, completely relaxing now that she knew he wasn’t as flawless as she’d thought. Or perhaps he was more perfect because of his flaws.

“Actually, they don’t.” He tried to capture her hands, but she evaded him. “Most people are scared of making me angry.”

“I’m not.” She told him the truth. Right now, sitting on top of him, watching him wriggle on her bed topless as she innocently tickled him, she knew she couldn’t fear him.

“I know. But you are going to—” He flipped them so that she was on her back, and he was between her legs. “Stop.” He looked into her eyes for a minute, then kissed her. It was slow, lingering, as though he had all night. With his kiss, Stacy remembered how much she wanted him. Her legs tightened around his waist as she tried to draw him closer to her. Pouting, a low growl of pure desire came from her throat as his covered cock rubbed against her. All thoughts of tickling him were gone.

Jack pulled away for only a second, but it was enough to make her feel mischievous. Her fingers were once again on his sides as she started to tickle the second his pants were gone. With a growl, he grabbed her hands in his and moved them over her head. He held them there securely.

Despite the fact that she tried to free herself, his grip remained firm. He wasn’t hurting her, just preventing her from playing with him anymore. So she used what she could. She tried to angle herself, using the bed to gain leverage. All that ended up doing was rubbing her pussy against his erection. She whimpered slightly, wanting to feel him inside of her.

“May I help you?” Jack whispered.

Stacy nodded. She was thankful when he didn’t make her tell him what she
wanted him to do. Not that she had a problem with sex talk, but she didn’t feel the need for it at the moment either. She felt him pull away slightly before his cock entered her with excruciating patience. She wanted to feel him inside of her now, buried to the hilt. Once there, she wanted him to start thrusting hard and deep until neither of them could remember their own names.

Jack, however, seemed to have different plans. He was a gentle lover, entering her slowly. She wanted him to ravage her, like in the paranormal romances that she read.

  “Jack,” she gasped.

  He grinned. “Yes?”

She opened her mouth to ask him something, but he reached between their bodies. His thumb circled her clit. Biting down on her lip, her entire body tensed. Jack’s movements sped up. Her nails dug into his waist, and she bit down on her lip so hard that she tasted blood.

The second her trembling eased, his thrusting slowed once again. Without missing a step, Jack leaned down and sucked her abused lip into his mouth.

For what felt like hours, he continued the torture. He would speed up whenever she neared orgasm, but he would only keep up the pace long enough for her to feel pleasure. Each orgasm seemed to be stronger than the previous. The second her trembling eased, he would resume his more leisurely pace. It was driving her crazy, and she had long ago lost count of how many orgasms she’d experienced.

Thrusting into her harder, he groaned. His mouth was on her neck, sucking hard as he maintained the faster pace. He’d been quiet through their coupling, but now that he seemed to near orgasm, he became more vocal. His lips never left her neck, but she could hear him moaning in delight. She felt his cock twitch inside of her as her eyes rolled upward and she practically screamed from the force of her orgasm.

Stacy felt Jack ease out of her. He stretched out beside her, his arm going around her waist. She was wiped. She didn’t even have the energy to lift her head and look at the clock. Closing her eyes, Stacy sighed happily as she fell asleep.

  Chapter Ten

Stacy stretched her limbs slowly. She was sore all over, thanks to Jack. But it was a good feeling. He was a sweet man, and had proven to be a very considerate lover. Thankfully, only the first time had been leisurely. Despite the fact that she knew he’d drunk from her during their interludes, she’d felt no pain. Looking over at the clock, she grew anxious.

Turning toward him, she said, “Jack, you have to get up.”

“Again?” His voice was still sleepy, but she could hear the teasing in it.

“No.” She blushed. She did seem to be going a little wild. Before she started working for BSC, she’d have been thankful to have sex twice a week. But now, two orgasms was a slow night, and she had yet to actually interact with an incubus! Was this new insatiable hunger because the men she’d been with were not ‘mortal’? Or was her ex just so lacking in the bedroom that she had stopped caring if they were intimate?

She decided not to wonder about that subject at the moment. According to her clock it would be dawn soon, and she wasn’t sure if her curtains were thick enough to black out the sun’s rays. Was it sunlight or the ultraviolet radiation that was lethal to vampires? Either way, she doubted Jack would be comfortable—or appreciate—sleeping in a closet.

“You have to get up. It’s almost dawn.”

That seemed to get his attention. He sat up in the bed and ran a hand through his tussled hair. Several strands stood straight up.

“It’s comforting to know you care about my safety.” He kissed her forehead. “You’ll have to get some vampire books to add to your collection.”

Stacy felt her face grow hotter. She wasn’t aware of him actually entering her library even though they’d talked about it briefly.

“Perhaps I can help you choose a few one night,” Jack continued.

The invitation was left open, but she knew he’d asked her out on a date. She lowered her head slightly, not looking him in the eye. “That would be nice.”

Jack tilted her head up and kissed her gently.

Wait a second. How would the woman in the bookstore react if she walked in with Jack after dropping Demetri’s name this past weekend? Was there another bookstore they could go to? What would Demetri say if he found out?

Stacy made a mental note to ask Ms. Pope if she could have whatever it was she was feeling for the werewolf blocked. It would certainly make her life easier. And she was certain it would be worth whatever price was asked of her.

“Great. I’ll give you a call. Maybe we can do something this weekend.” As Jack spoke, and she’d become lost in her thoughts, he’d climbed out of bed and started to dress.

She nodded. She’d given up on wondering how people could, would, or did get her cell phone number. It seemed that anyone with ties to BSC could get access to it. And she wasn’t sure she wanted to have the details on that.

  “Do you regret what happened?”

When Stacy looked up at him shocked that he’d ask her that, she saw him looking intently into her eyes. His expression was so open and searching she couldn’t look away. So, she thought about his question, really thought about it.

“No. I’m a little worried about how fast I’ve been moving since I left...” She’d been about to say her soon-to-be-ex’s name, but that didn’t seem right. She didn’t want to ruin what she’d been feeling with Jack. She decided to start calling him exactly what he felt like to her. “My ex. But I don’t regret being with you.”

“Fair enough. I’ll call you. I can see myself out.”

Despite his protests, Stacy climbed out of bed. Disregarding her pajamas, she walked him to the door. After what they’d done together, she was completely unashamed of her nudity. There wasn’t a single part of her body that he hadn’t examined intimately. She also couldn’t feel embarrassed about the various marks on her body—old or new. Why should she care about them, if he didn’t?

Before he left, he gave her another kiss.

Once the door was firmly closed and locked, she sighed. Stacy wasn’t sure how much wilder her new life could become. She was, however, reasonably certain if it was anything like what she’d been experiencing, she’d enjoy every minute of the ride.

  * * * * * *

Stacy entered the office and waved to Tina. She’d been surprised to find out that the front door was rarely locked. It seemed BSC had its own methods to ensure that no one came in uninvited.

She wasn’t quite certain if she needed to make an appointment to see Ms. Pope or not, but she was determined to find out. She desperately needed to find out about getting her feelings for a certain hunky werewolf suppressed.

She’d had a hard time falling asleep again after Jack left. Her mind seemed to constantly drift back to Demitri. She didn’t even consider them to be together, but she still felt guilty. After tossing and turning for most of the morning, she knew she’d have to at least ask about having her emotions suppressed. Or, at the very least, her feelings for Demetri blocked...whatever they were.

“You’re here early,” Tina said as she put the phone down. “You look like hell. Did Jack work you too hard? He can be a dictator sometimes. Why he doesn’t make more regular visits so we don’t have to do six months’ worth of work in one night is beyond me.” Tina shook her head. “Though I must admit, outside of work, he’s a lot of fun. Get a couple of blue motorcycles in him and he’ll have you laughing so hard your sides hurt.”

  “I um...I didn’t—didn’t have any—any problems with—”

“Jack too? Wow, girl, you are on a roll.”

“I didn’t say that,” Stacy mumbled. She was thankful she’d thought to wear a turtleneck.

“You don’t have to. Everything about you is screaming it. I’m impressed.”

Looking at her friend, Stacy knew Tina did not mean that in a catty way. Hell, she was impressed herself. She’d never have guessed two weeks ago how different her life could be. But she would gladly admit that she’d been infinitely happier in her new life than she could remember ever be
ing in her marriage. Especially during the last three years of it.

“You are going to have to tell me all about it later. Right now, I want to know what brings you to the office. I don’t think I’d have gotten out of bed. Especially with Jack beside me.”

“I thought you didn’t like him.” Stacy was confused. Hadn’t Tina called him a dictator?

“Playing secretary for him for one night to catch up on six months of paperwork? Um, no. But that doesn’t mean I’d kick him out of bed. I can’t believe you left him alone. What if he wakes up and needs your help?” Tina wiggled her eyebrows.

  “He left before dawn.”

“Oh, honey, I’m so sorry. I’d never have thought he’d be that type. What a jerk.”

“No. I told him to go. I didn’t want him to get hurt.” When Tina stared at her, Stacy continued. “I woke him up and told him it was almost dawn. He chuckled, said he’d help me pick out a few vampire books for my library then promised to call me later in the week.”

“That makes more sense. You do know that—”

Ms. Pope’s voice sounded through the office. “Tina, tell Stacy she can come back to my office.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Tina shrugged and motioned toward the door.

Stacy never considered ignoring the comment. She entered the strange, unending hallway and followed the familiar path toward Ms. Pope’s office. After knocking once, she entered.

“No,” Ms. Pope said before the door was shut. She hadn’t even looked up from her paperwork.

“I haven’t even asked anything yet,” Stacy blurted out.

Her boss looked at her. “Then ask, so I can say no.” There was a twinkle in the other woman’s eye. It softened her words slightly.
