Dirk pulls his t-shirt again with a sharp jerk.
No, not my fate, I realize. Our fate. Whatever I am feeling, so is Dirk.
As my eyes continue their quest, I focus on the dread behind my breastbone.
Hidden behind the ugly warning, it mimics the happiness I feel for Seeck and Nova. Though I am glad for them, the emotions I thought were for them were not. They were for me.
My Omega is in this city. My lifemate is nearby.
Joy sparks in my heart and spreads through my veins.
The writhing black mass of premonition swallows it down in one gulp.
My mouth speaks without my consent. “Dirk. My lifemate is here. So is yours.”
Silence rules the room as neither of us move. Dirk’s stillness is full of deep calculations and many realizations.
“Both of our Omegas are in this city. How will we find them?” his deep voice rumbles with a faint growl.
I stand and scan the horizon. Dirk joins me at the window.
Our eyes focus toward the outskirts of the city. They are in that sector, near one another.
“We aren’t fated to the same Omega, are we?” Dirk asks. I search my senses, fighting through the ugly cloud, and feel the truth in my marrow. Alpha Elites may share many things, but females are not one of them. I shake my head, and Dirk nods in agreement.
“Then our mates are very close to one another. Is it getting worse for you too?” he rubs over his heart with a grimace.
It is. My bones throb with the intensity of it. We’re close to our lifemates, but the seething shadow in my chest warns that we’re not close enough.
Something catastrophic heads our way.
