Wolf Shield Investigations: Boxset

“I don’t want you to be disappointed.”
Jenna looked up and frowned at her husband. “Disappointed? Why would I be disappointed?”
“I’m just saying. If this doesn’t turn out the way you hoped, if they’re determined to stay together…”
“I would expect them to stay together,” she said, waving a hand. “That wouldn’t come as a surprise, but I thought they deserved to know they don’t have to be afraid of anything. Their lives really are their own.”
He reached over, placing one hand on her swollen belly. “You hear that? Your mama has a huge heart. She’s always thinking about other people.”
The baby kicked in response, or at least, Jenna told herself he did. “I’m telling you by the time your son is born, I’ll be all bruised up inside.” Not that she minded. Every kick meant the life inside her was strong, thriving. Just like the love she held for the man beside her.
If anything, learning there were children in the party brought her a sense of relief. There had been a few times early in her pregnancy when Jenna had wondered if they’d made the right choice, getting pregnant. What would it mean for their child? Would they be shifters too? Or would they just be human?
Would they be healthy?
So far, her child seemed healthy. They would meet face-to-face in another month—as far as she was concerned, it couldn’t pass fast enough. Not only because she had to pee what felt like every five minutes.
“By the way, Serenity texted me today. She wanted to make double sure we’d be back in time for her opening night.”
Logan nodded. “Like Braxton wouldn’t have my head on the spike if I missed it,” he chuckled. “Of course, I want to see her take Broadway by storm.”
“You know, that’ll be the first time we’ve all been together in—what? Eight months? Ten?”
“That’s true. Everyone’s been so busy.” Jace and Kara lived in the city, not far from Braxton and Serenity. Kara taught dance classes while Jace and Braxton consulted on security issues for mid-level companies.
Marnie had joined forces with Val and Doc, as Wolf Shield Investigations shifted its focus to research and cybersecurity. Hawk was their security guru, though Jenna assisted from time to time. She had to keep her hand in the game somehow.
Zane and Aimee had just returned from a trip to Europe, where they’d eloped in Florence and had become pregnant not long after. The family was growing by leaps and bounds.
And it was Doc, rather than Logan, who oversaw the business. He was the natural choice to take over for Logan when he’d decided to step down, going into semi-retirement. He still consulted when called upon to do so but had taken up the fine art of relaxation. He wasn’t very good at it yet, but Jenna did everything she could to make sure he practiced.
“It’s good of you to do this, you know,” she murmured, placing her hand over his. “Coming all this way—across the country—all for people you’ve never met.”
“We all share something,” he reasoned, his blue eyes somehow even more like ice in the middle of his tanned face. All the time he spent outdoors had begun to show itself. The warmest ice Jenna had ever seen.
“That’s true. But you’re still a sweetheart for indulging me.”
“I know how much it means, and I intend for my girl to have whatever she needs.”
“Your girl needs something to eat.”
“Why am I not surprised?” he laughed. Her appetite had doubled thanks to the baby. “We’ll get that taken care of too.”
The sight of clustered RVs set her heart racing. This was it. She’d finally found them. Her sisters, in a way, just like Logan thought of the guys as his pack. They’d found each other, relying on strength in numbers. It was an instinct common to wolves, she guessed.
“You ready for this?” Logan smiled at her, running his thumb over the pair of rings on her left hand.
“So long as you’re with me?” she asked. “I’m ready for anything.” ###
