“You gonna like havin’ a little sister, bud?” His eyes are so much like mine. My heart swells with all the love I have for him. He’s perfect.

“What are you two doing out here?” Aria asks as she walks into the lobby, yawning.

“Just talkin’. Why are you up?” She drags herself over and drops on the couch next to me.

“Roc snores like a fucking grizzly bear.” I can’t help but laugh with her.

Jordan stretches his arms out to her and she quickly takes him from me.

“Did you miss Aunt Aria?” Kissing his cheeks, he giggles.

Watching Aria with Jordan, does things to me.

“He wakes up a lot at night,” I say. She nods but continues kissing his cheeks, making him laugh.

“He probably just wants you to hold him. You just want daddy to hold you?” She talks to him. His giggles make me smile. I never knew it could bring me such joy.

“I thought that, too. Doc said not to make it a habit of lettin’ him sleep in the bed with us but that’s when he sleeps good.” Aria laughs before looking over at me.

“He’s a baby. He needs his daddy. Fuck what the Doc says,” She says nudging me with her elbow. I nod.

“I can’t get over how everyone is takin’ him bein’ here. I thought it would be harder than it is.” Jordan wiggles to get on the floor. Aria sets him down as we watch him play with his toys.

“He’s easy to love. Besides, he’s yours. We love you, so it’s easy.” Aria and I have never really sat down and talked about shit.

“You think you’d ever want kids? You and Roc?” Aria shrugs watching Jordan.

“I’m not sure I’m the motherly type.” That’s bullshit!

“You’re so good with him,” I say nodding to Jordan, she shrugs.

“Maybe one day,” She says. Shoving off the couch, she leans down, kissing Jordan.

“Go to sleep for daddy. Night, Ghost.” Smiling over her shoulder at me, I smile.

“Night, Aria.” Picking Jordan up, I yawn.

“You ready to sleep yet little man?” He doesn’t look tired to me but I have a run in the morning, and I need at least a few hours so I don’t kill Trick. Heading back down the hallway, I find myself wondering about shit. Like a house with a yard for the kids to play in. It makes me wonder if I can be a good father. If I can be a family man. I know it won’t be the typical family that those uppity blue collars have, but I think we can do it. We’ll make our own family, much like we always have. Shoving back into the room, Nessa looks at me.

“He wouldn’t sleep?” Shaking my head, she holds her arms out.

“Give him to me,” She says. With a smile on my face, I walk over, passing Jordan to her. Nessa starts to hum and rock him in her arms. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. She stares down into his little eyes as they slowly flutter closed.

  “God, you’re perfect.”

  Chapter 22

I woke up to Jordan sleeping in the middle of the bed, much like he always is. Fuck what the Doctor says. He’s my kid.

“You look happy,” Devil says as he walks toward me with a grin on his face.

“That happens sometimes. You ridin’?” I ask. Oh God, please say yes. I can’t handle a day of Trick.

“Thought about,” He says. Cocking my head to the side, I silently beg him.

“What’s with the look?” His laughter makes me laugh.

“If you don’t, I’m stuck with Trick.” Devil’s laugh turns hysterical as he takes a step back.

“Fuck that. I’m not goin’ with that kid.” Damn, way to leave a brother hanging.

“Come on, Devil! You’re my boy!” Following him into the kitchen he laughs when Trick walks in.

“I’m ready. I’m ready. I’m ready to ride.” Trick is all amped up. Devil and I share a glance. Shaking my head, I can’t handle this all day.

“Have a good time, Ghost.” Son of a bitch.

“Fuckin’ hate you, Devil.” He laughs as I spin on my heel and head out the front door. Taking a deep breath of fresh air, maybe this will be a good run. Simple drop and receive. Shouldn’t be too hard. The only issue I see, is running through rival areas to get there. With our expansion, we’ve been forced to deliver a lot of the product.

“Don’t fuck this up, Trick,” I say as I'm grabbing my helmet, I slide it on as Trick does the same. The product is tucked in Trick’s saddle bags, so I hope he doesn’t fuck up.

“I don’t fuck shit up, unless it’s a pussy. Then I fuck it.” I have no words for that. I stand there in a stunned silence. I finally shake my head before climbing on my bike. Revving it up, I’m ready to get on the road. As much as I love being here with Nessa, the need to ride and be free calls to me. Pulling out on the main road, I smile. It feels good riding my bike. I’ve spent so much time in the truck that the bike has been neglected. The free road isn’t for everyone. This is a special place for those of us that know what it means.

  ***

The ride out was perfect. Meeting in the city is a little different, though. We usually meet-out away from people. That’s the way it always is. Pushing through the bar door, I glance around. Doesn’t seem like a clubhouse. I head in with Trick behind me, making my way to the bar.

“Silis around?” I ask. The little girl at the bar eyes me while licking her lips. Nice try.

“He’s in the back. You Ghost?” Nodding my head, she motions for me to follow. Silis isn’t in an MC like most of our clients. He’s into illegal street racing, and shit like that. He always calls us though, when he’s about to have a show. We supply their leisure time. The blonde holds a door open, ushering us inside.

“Ghost! Good to see you.” Silis stands from his desk, holding his hand out to me.

“You, too. Got a big one comin’ up?” Nodding, he motions for us to take a seat. Silis is an ok guy. He doesn’t bitch and complain like some of the clubs we deal with do. He orders, we deliver, he pays.

“Yeah. About a hundred-grand riding on this one. I’m telling you, you and your boys should come out to one of them.” He’s always trying to get us to come to his shit. That’s just not something we dabble in.

“Maybe one day. Got a lot of shit goin’ on at home right now.” Silis nods as he tugs a bag from under his desk, setting it on the desk in front of him.

“It’s all there. I may need you in a month or two.” He says. Pulling the bag closer, I toss it to Trick to count. I’m not sure that’s a good idea, though. I wonder if he can even count. I take the other bag from Trick, handing it to Silis.

“What’s your shows like?” Out of curiosity, I ask.

“Oh, hell, Ghost. They are fun as shit. We get out on the old nineteen. Have some lookouts watching for cops. Races run every fifteen minutes. We run a lot of money in those races, Ghost. Side bets can get as high as the overall pot.” Nodding as he speaks, that does sound good.

“What’s the time you’d be lookin’ at, gettin’ caught up in that shit?” I ask curiously. Silis looks up, his eyes wide.

“Just curious, Silis.” Laughing slightly, he nods.

“My brother got caught a few years back. Got twenty-five years. Motherfucker served five already.”

  “Damn shame.”

We left Silis’ after a few beers. I felt pretty good, until now. Now, everything just feels off. I don’t know why, I just feel it. Glancing over at Trick, he cocks his head slightly. I see the look in his eyes. He feels it, too. I signal him to keep watch, getting a nod in return. We ride a little further when the rumble of bikes catches my attention. Glancing back, I see three bikes closing in. Shit! How didn’t I notice them before?

I have two options here. Try to out run them, or pull the fuck over and face the firing squad. Neither one seems like a good choice to me. Trick spots them, glancing at me for guidance. Shit! Nodding toward the side of the road, there is no point in trying to outrun them on their own turf. Pulling my bike over to the side of the road, I slow down and stop, with Trick right beside
me. I cut the engine, quickly climbing off, checking my guns before they have a chance to disarm my ass. Their bikes cut off, they climb off looking at us. I’m trying to place who they might be, but I come up blank for this area.

“You boys are out of place here.” The man in the front pulls his helmet off his head. His eyes look like fire, his muscles tensing as he looks at me.

“Just makin’ a friendly run, through,” I say. The man glances over his shoulder, chuckling until coming back to meet my eyes.

“Not your area, brother. It’s ours.” Shit, I didn’t realize that this was anyone’s area. I glance at the patches on his cut and that’s not a name I recognize.

“Rickshaw’s, huh? I ain’t heard of you.” Crossing my arms over my chest, I glare at him. Three on two isn’t is so bad. Aside from this one, the other two don’t look so bad.

“Is that supposed to mean somethin’ to me?” I see him reach behind him. I know what he’s going for.

If there’s more of them, we’re going to need back up. Trick has to go. Glancing over at him quickly, I nod.

“I’ll hold them off. You get the fuck back, and get Dragon.” Trick nods quickly like he doesn’t even have a second thought about it. I grab my gun from the back of my jeans, before aiming.

  “Seems—we have a little situation.”

  Chapter 23

Trick takes off, right before the guy fires. I fire back, hitting one in the arm before they move in on me. Shit, three on one is going to be a little challenging. My gun is knocked from my hand, falling to the ground before a fist is slammed into my face. The world blurs around me as I try to right myself.

“Come onto our turf—talkin’ all that shit!” The man roars. A kick to the ribs while I’m down, knocks the air from my lungs.

“Pick his ass up, Tony!” The big guy in the front calls out to one of his guys. I wait for more to show up but they haven’t so far. Holding me up in front of the guy, I look at his name patch.

“Grizzly? You don’t look that fuckin’ scary to me.” My comments earn me another fist to the face. I turn my head, spitting the blood from my mouth onto the pavement next to me.

“Ghost, huh? I can make you disappear.” The guy, Tony, laughs behind me. I weigh out my options here. If I’m going down, I’m going with a fight. I sure as hell ain’t going down by these backwoods motherfuckers, without taking one or two with me.

“This your idea of fun, Grizzly? What a fuckin’ waste.” Spitting in his direction, he laughs.

“Oh, no. I have more fun up my sleeve. We just needed to see who we were workin’ with. You road through, and sparked my interests.” The way he clenches his teeth, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything.

“Drag him out in the woods to the shack.” Oh, fuck! That’s not what I wanted to hear. Being dragged away from the road, is going to make it that much harder for the guys to figure out where they took me. My mind runs in overdrive. Do I fight them and risk getting my ass shot on the spot, or go along with what they are planning? All the possibilities swarm my head at once. Dying without seeing my baby girl? That shit—isn’t an option. I decide to go along with them, hoping like fuck, there aren’t any more of them at the shack. Maybe idea number one, would be better. I don’t get the chance to decide, when something hard slams into the back of my head.

Reaching up, I grab the back of my head as the room spins around me. I pry my eyes open, wondering where the fuck I am when it all comes back to me.

“We can use him as leverage. Get us in with them,” The guy says. What the fuck? Is he serious?

“Doubt that will work, brother,” I say, before all eyes turn to me in the corner of the shack.

“Oh, yeah? Why not?” Is he as dumb as Trick? Or, maybe dumber.

Shoving up so I’m sitting, I glare at the three amigos.

“Do you think my Prez... is gonna work with you after you jacked his VP?” I ask with a smirk. They look at each other questioningly. What the hell is with them? They aren’t a club. There is no way in fuck.

“He’s the fuckin’ VP?” I hear the smaller one at the back of the group say, before I laugh.

“What kind of shit are you runnin’ here?” I shove myself up the wall as Grizzly moves in on me.

“You tryin’ to say somethin’—about the way I run my club?” Gritting between his teeth, I smile.

“This is your club?” I say. Glancing at the three of them, I laugh before being kicked in the stomach.

“You stupid fucks!” Another fist. I’m getting my ass handed to me, when they finally stop.

“We have you—that means somethin’!” Snapping at me, I want to laugh. It’s really fucking hysterical.

“You think this little shit of a club will stand up against Hell’s Fire? You ain’t shit. My boys will show up, and hand your mama, your fuckin’ head on a platter.” I roar. They seem to think this over for a second before smashing another fist to my face.

I stumble back, sliding down the wall into a heap. The guys step back, mumbling amongst themselves as I glance around the room. There has to be something in here I can use against these fucks. I almost laugh when I think of them calling themselves a 'club'. They are nothing but three stupid fucks, trying to pretend their way through this shit. When I find something useful, I am going to fucking kill every one of these little pricks. Lucky for me, it isn’t going to take that long. I can see the lights before they die out. My guys are outside.

  ***

I lean back against the wall, marveling at the way the three stooges are mumbling amongst themselves, oblivious of that fact that Fire’s moving in on them. It’d almost be amusing, if it wasn’t so damn sad.

“You might wanna release my VP.” Dragon’s growl can be heard for miles. I just sit with a smug ass grin on my face.

“What the fuck?” Grizzly’s eyes meet Tony’s. They know their fucked.

“Warned you pussy’s ahead of time, didn’t I?” I say with a grin. Their eyes turn on me, rage simmering in them. It’s almost funny, though. There’s fucking three of them! Grizzly moves forward, grabbing me by the neck, yanking me up.

“Human shield.” Mumbling in my ear, I almost laugh again. If that’s what he thinks, who am I to disagree.

Grizzly drags me out the front door of the shack, with a grin on my face. Dragon sees me, shaking his head, he says, “You get into all kinds of shit.”

“What the fuck you three doin’ with my VP?” Dragon holds his gun in his hand, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Walk away, or we kill him,” Grizzly yells, but Dragon just laughs.

“I don’t think you’ll do it.” Damn him. Look, he’s challenging them, using my ass as the bargaining chip.

“Dragon Man, I don’t think you should do that.” I say, raising my eyebrows, he lets out a laugh that shakes the three idiots. Grizzly’s grip falters only for a second, when I take that as my chance to fight back. I know there’s more than Dragon out there. Swinging around, I duck out of his grasp, slamming my fist into his face. Grizzly stumbles back, Dragon and Devil, moving in. I knew he was out there. With each of us on a prick, we easily take them down. Once we have them subdued, I stand back and look at them.

“This is their club, brother.” Holding my arms out, the guys laugh.

“You kiddin’ me? This is it?” The guys on the ground look at us with wide eyes.

“We didn’t mean nothin’ by it! We were just startin’ up.” Look at the motherfucker whining.

“Let me get this right—I don’t wanna kill you just for nothin’. So, you start up your own club, take my VP, and kick his ass. What were you tryin’ to achieve with all that?” Dragon cocks his head watching Grizzly, who seemed to be the ring leader.

“He wanted to take over someone’s club.” Look at Tony squealing like a pig!

“Tony, first rule in the MC. Don’t squeal on your Prez,” I say as I laugh and take the gun from Devil, shooting the prick between the eyes. His body falls to the ground as I continue to lau
gh.

“Really? You thought you could take us?” Dragon seems entertained by all this. Hell, I am too.

“Just kill them and let’s go. I got pussy waitin’ at home.” Devil says, always so impatient these days.

“Fine. We’ll stop playin’ with the bitches.” Pulling the trigger twice more, I watch the other two idiots fall to the ground.

“You got your ass beat by those three?” Dragon laughs as we walk back through the trees, up toward the road.

“Three on one, brother. What the fuck was I supposed to do?” Dragon laughs, slapping a hand on my shoulder.

“What the fuck took you so long anyway?” I ask. Devil laughs when we come up to the bikes, nodding toward Trick.

“Oh, I was right! It was where the bikes were!” Shaking my head, now I get it.

“Motherfucker wasn’t sure if this was where he left you.” Devil chuckles, lighting a cigarette.

“We can’t really be patchin’ him, brother.” Looking to Dragon, he shrugs.

“He did remember what he came home alone for—” I guess that does count for something.

“Trick, roll those bikes down that embankment.” Trick looks at the guy’s bikes strangely before looking back at me.

“Shouldn’t we just take them?” Trick asks. Dragon and I share another glance before I lose it completely.

“How would you like to do that, Trick? You gonna ride them all back?” I ask, it’s hard to remain serious when the boy is so far gone.

“Well, one at a time, I guess.” I can see the look in Dragon’s eyes, he’s had enough.

“Roll the goddamn bikes down the hill!” Snapping at him seems to pull his head back into the game.

Trick smiles, before moving to roll them.

  Chapter 24

You never know in life how things might turn out. Those guys were nobodies, but they could have just as easily been someone. It makes you think a lot about your life and the way you’re living it. I could have been killed by the idiots, had they had a little more common sense than they actually did. I thank God, it didn’t end that way. Nessa would have been left alone, which isn’t something I want to think about. My heart hurts when I think of her raising two kids on her own. I know the club would have her back, but that means nothing in the long run. She needs me, as much as I need her, and I know it. Pulling into the parking lot, I kill the engine and climb off my bike. Setting my helmet on the seat, Trick hollers at me.
