“I know. But I’ve got family to take care of. My mom and sister. They’re in debt up to their eyeballs because of some shit my dad did and ... it’s ... it’s gotta happen. I don’t have a choice. Pro ball is the only way I can help them.”
Poor guy. Justin’s heart went out to Micah. No wonder he seemed so single-minded about his training and playing. It was one thing to do it for the money for yourself or even the love of a game. But to put yourself through it all to help the people you loved? Well that could light a different kind of fire under a guy. Micah’s drive could get him far but not if he threw all caution to the wind and blew out his shoulder before he made it.
“Hey, I feel you,” Justin said softly. “And I will do everything I can to help you get there but I can’t have you lying to me about your pain levels or any other symptoms you’re having. It’s too dangerous. I can’t help you get to the Majors if you’re lying, Micah. So, I need you to be honest. Can you do that for me?”
They stared at each other for a long time. Micah’s gaze seemed to be pleading with him for something but Justin had no idea what.
With a suddenness that made Justin blink, Micah lunged forward and pulled him in for a kiss. The firm hand on the back of his neck and the hungrily seeking lips threw Justin off-kilter so thoroughly, he didn’t push Micah away immediately. Micah’s scent was in his nose and for a few moments, Justin forgot where they were. The hard, muscular thigh pressed between his legs and skillful tongue teasing at the seam of his lips and coaxing him to open blotted out all rational thought.
