As he waited for those names, he roamed throughout the streets, visiting different neighborhoods every day. Towards lunch, he found himself at the shogun's compound. The gates were open and people were flowing in and out, dealing with their business and visiting the ornate public gardens. He decided to head inside and mill about to see what he could.
He wandered the grounds, pretending to be sightseeing. Finally, he ended up in the gardens. They surely were beautiful. He'd never seen so many different species of camellias or such vibrant colors on lilies. Amazed and actually enjoying himself, he meandered through the bushes, trees, and flowers, smelling the fragrances. He found himself at the large koi pond, staring into the waters at the beautiful golden fish as they swam about, not a care in the world.
As a white fish passed, he realized he'd been there too long and needed to get back. He turned and headed back through the gardens but was quickly lost in the maze of lush vegetation. He ended up at the base of a large building and stood there for a moment, pondering which way to go.
“Lost?” came a voice to his right.
“Yeah, I got distracted...” He turned around to get directions out of the gardens.
“Ah, well, I can help you find your way back,” the other man said. “I still get a little turned around back here myself.”
Ratnakar nodded as he faced the other man. His gaze was drawn to the sword secured tightly to the stranger’s hip. The fire soul blazed back at him, recognizing in him the very thing that it sought to destroy.
He looked up into the face of the shogun, Akio.
