Jesse groaned loudly as he came and we lay there tangled up in each other as we came down from the high that our bodies had created. Finally, he kissed me once more and rolled over onto his back, pulling me with him.

I snuggled up against his side and put my head on his chest. The sound of his heart slowing down and his breathing regulating soothed me, and it wasn’t long before I drifted off into a deep sleep.

When my eyes opened again, I saw the room was flooded with sunlight and I panicked at the strange surroundings for a few moments before my steamy and satisfying night with Jesse came flooding back.

I reached out for him, but there was nothing but sheets and empty space next to me in the massive bed, and my heart started to pound in my chest.

Telling myself Jesse must be in another room, I did my best to stay calm and got up to grab my clothes off the floor before heading into the bathroom to clean myself up a bit.

Once I felt more presentable, I made my way out into the living room. It was empty too, and I felt my heart sink into my stomach. I made my way through the entire condo, but couldn’t find Jesse anywhere.

Before I could stop myself, I was crying and cursing men under my breath. I’d thought Jesse was different than the others, but he’d fucked me and left me high and dry.

How could I have been so stupid to fall for him? He probably does this with women all the time, I thought to myself as my tears came harder and faster.

But then the elevator door opened and there was Jesse, carrying a box and wearing a big grin…

  Jesse

I’d laid there with Lucy in my arms for hours and tried to sleep. But I was just too damn happy. I hadn’t felt this complete in my entire life. I’d fallen for a total stranger and I couldn’t believe my luck.

If I was being honest, I was afraid to fall asleep and risk this all turning out to be a dream. I watched the room fill up with the first weak rays of sunlight and decided to do something special for Lucy.

I got up, dressed and headed out to grab a box of pastries from a nearby French bakery. Chances were good that Lucy had never been able to enjoy the flaky goodness of overpriced breakfast food, and I wanted to be the one to introduce her to the pleasure.

I found myself smiling at strangers and whistling in the elevator. I’d never considered myself to be a miserable man, but now I realized that was exactly what I had been.

Lucy completed me in a way that was almost unbelievable, and there was no chance I was letting her go. My plan had been to wake her with a kiss, spoil her with a gourmet breakfast, and then tell her that I was in love with her.

But when I got home, I found Lucy standing in the middle of the living room with tears pouring down her face. I felt a raw jolt of protectiveness race through me and almost dropped the damned pastries as I rushed to her side.

“What’s wrong?” I demanded as I set the bakery box on a nearby table and took ahold of Lucy’s arm and held her still so I could read her face. “What in the hell happened, Lucy?”

There was a look of utter confusion and shock in her eyes. There was also anger there, and for a moment, I actually thought she was going to haul off and slap me.

“I, well, you…” Lucy was trembling like a scared rabbit and I wrapped her up in my arms. She took a watery breath and laid her cheek on my chest. “I didn’t think you wanted me here anymore.”

“Oh, honey, that couldn’t be further from the truth,” I whispered as I squeezed her closer to me. “I would never do that to you, Lucy. I care about you too much to ever ditch you. Hell, I love you, honey.”

Lucy pulled away and looked up into my face with awe in her eyes. “What did you just say?”

“I said I love you, Lucy,” I replied with my eyes locked on hers. “I plan to spend the rest of my life taking care of you and keeping you safe.”

“Oh, Jesse,” Lucy said as her chin trembled and she began to cry again. “I love you too!”

I couldn’t stop myself from giving a whoop of delight and laughed when Lucy jumped and then grinned. I pulled her back to me and covered her face with kisses.

“How about some fancy French pastries?” I asked softly. “They might be the cause of the trouble, but they’re too good to go to waste.”

Lucy looked up at me with a suggestive smile. “I think they can wait, don’t you?”

I leaned in and kissed her deeply, feeling my cock stir in my pants as she rubbed those sexy curves of hers up against me. “Oh, they can definitely wait.”

Lucy took my hand and broke our kiss just long enough to lead me over the leather sofa. “What do you say we celebrate by christening the couch?”

“I say that sounds like the best damn plan ever,” I growled before sinking into the plush cushions and pulling her down on top of me.

“I was hoping you’d say that,” Lucy mumbled with lust in her eyes before I claimed her mouth with my own and we disappeared once more into our own private world of bliss.

“Tell Mr. Harris I need to see him immediately,” I said to my secretary. “It’s an emergency.”

I watched her scramble away and took a few deep, cleansing breaths. I knew I needed to stay calm, but it wasn’t as easy as they made it seem in the books I’d read.

My hands moved to my big belly and I mumbled soothingly to the baby inside. “Everything is going to be fine, little one. I promise. Daddy is on the way.”

Jesse and I are almost certain I got pregnant during our very first night together. We’d been married soon after the first test came back positive. His sister had been over the moon when she’d heard the news, of course.

“I don’t want you to have to waddle down the aisle,” he’d joked when we’d talked about when to tie the knot. “Besides, it’s not like I’m going to change my mind about you being the love of my life.”

He’d pulled me into his lap and kissed me, and I’d looked around his office after we’d parted. “Aren’t you worried someone will walk in on us?”

Jesse had laughed and kissed me again. “Honey, I’m the boss. You don’t have to worry about a thing from here on out. At work or anywhere else.”

Not a week after our first amazing night together, Jesse had asked to see samples of my design projects, and had offered me a job at the Harris Advertising Agency on the spot.

“Not only are you the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, you’re also one of the most talented. I’d be an idiot not to scoop you up, Lucy.”

I’d smiled and pinched myself when he wasn’t looking. I was living every dream I’d ever had, and it had still felt unreal at that point.

Jesse had added me to his team of designers and asked me to move in with him just a few weeks later. I couldn’t be happier if I tried, even though it took my parents some time to catch up with me.

They’d been terrified when I’d told them about my attack in the streets, and although they were grateful that Jesse had been there to save me, they still saw him as a stranger – an older man that was taking advantage of their naïve daughter in the big city.

But then, Jesse had flown them in from Ohio and spent a weekend wining and dining them. By the end of that trip, I’d had the full blessing of my parents.

Which had made telling them I was married and pregnant a lot easier. I think they’d been as worried as I’d once been that my new life was all a dream.

Of course, that had turned out not to be the case, and I was getting ready to have my first child with a man I loved more than anything.

I watched Jesse come striding down the hallway and smiled. I knew there would never be a time when I called for him and he didn’t come. He was truly my savior, in every sense of the word, and he never disappointed me.

He had his serious face on as he hurried up to me and placed a protective hand over my belly. “Are you alright, my love? Is this it?”

I put my hand on top of Jesse’s and leaned in and gave him a soft kiss. “You
’re about to become a father, Mr. Harris.”

Jesse whooped and I laughed as I was brought back to the first time he’d told me he’d loved me. He’d proved that he was different than other men that day in the living room of the condo, and he’d continued to prove it every day since then.

“I’m going to call the car around and grab your bag from my office,” Jesse said with a huge grin. “Don’t you move a muscle, sexy mama.”

My husband dropped me a wink and hurried off. I just stood there, my hands on my belly and a smile on my face, and waited for Jesse to return.

And to think, this wonderful fairy tale life of mine had all started thanks to being saved by a kind and handsome stranger…
