  Marlo addressed the females in English. ‘I am Commander Marlo, and I am the liaison for the Star Daughter. This is my wife Lady Brenda.’

  He paused making sure they understood. ‘What will happen now, is we will take you to medical, where a download will be administered then they will scan you for any medical issues. When you are cleared…’

  A young female interrupted him. ‘Excuse me, sir.’

  Marlo frowned and went to scold her for interrupting his welcoming speech. But Brenda answered her, causing him to grumble under his breath. ‘Yes, dear, what is it?’

  ‘Lady Brenda, what is the download?’

  ‘Oh dear, Darby, explain please.’

  Darby nodded then said. ‘The download contains mineral based Nanos that carry information about this Universe. The Nanos will also deposit languages and descriptions of species and information about Maikonia, our home world, in the parts of your brain that need it.’

  Another female asked. ‘What happens when it is finished, like with the Nanos?’

  ‘They break down and join your body, hence the term mineral.’

  Another female with a skeptical sneer on her face challenged. ‘Sure they do, that’s what they told you!’

  Frowning, Darby replied. ‘They will, that is what I designed them to do.’

  ‘Oh.’ The female looked sheepish as she said. ‘Sorry.’

  Darby nodded. ‘Understandable, you don’t know us, we know that.’

  Netta said. ‘Trust is an issue, we get that, but you have no choice at the moment but to trust us.’

  Relic said annoyance in her voice. ‘It’s a bit redundant now to be worried about trust. We are here and I for one am thankful to be out of that shit hole.’

  Reeve grinned, which she returned.

  Netta said. ‘Okay, thanks Relic, Commander Marlo your turn.’

  Brenda said. ‘Please hurry dear, the ladies are quite exhausted.’

  ‘I would, but you keep interrupting and holding me up with your chitty-chatty.’ He growled, causing some of the females to step away from him or their eyes to widen in trepidation.

  Brenda said with a little snap in her voice. ‘Well it is not us holding proceedings up now is it? And it is chit-chat, which I am sure I have explained to you often. Perhaps if it was in one of your western vids, you would remember.’

  Several smiles and giggles were heard as Marlo said meekly. ‘Yes, my heart.’ He looked at the females and said. ‘After the healers give you the all clear, you will be shown to your rooms. Now do not fear there are enough rooms for you all.’

  Someone shouted. ‘Is there hot water?’

  His face softened as he replied. ‘Yes, also food and clothes, ladies take your time and relax. No one demands anything from you, other than you heal. Once you have been seen by a healer and have showered and dressed in clean clothes. You will be guided to the restaurant where you will eat. And then the Star Daughter will address you.’

  At this announcement there was a soft rumble of voices. Brenda said. ‘So to that end we will see you to medical and show you were you will sleep.’

  The lifts arrived and every female who was at the Embassy came from the opened doors, even the young girls. ‘Auntie Darby, Auntie Netta, Mama said we are to help.’ Hope told them importantly as she and the twins excitedly smiled.

  ‘That is because you are so trustworthy and sweet.’ Brenda praised them.

  ‘We are pleased for your help.’ Melody told them as she assessed first Darby then Netta.

  The three girls danced off to several females and started talking animatedly. Melody hugged Darby, then held Netta and read the despair and left over anger in her eyes. ‘You okay?’

  Netta blew a breath out and gave her a wan smile. ‘I will be.’ At Melody’s raised eyebrows, she assured her. ‘I swear I will be okay.’

  Rita and Rata arrived with Heather, who hugged Darby. ‘Are you well sweetie? You look tired.’

  Darby closed her eyes and sighed, taking in the scent of Heather and her heart settled with the feeling of calmness Heather always gave her.

  ‘It was sad.’

  ‘Oh hon, I am sure it was.’ She murmured as she hugged her again and released her, when Reeve asked. ‘Darby?’

  ‘I am okay, just sad.’

  He looked her up and down and said. ‘You need to shower, Heather what do I do with this one?’

  ‘Nothing, I will take her.’ Said a voice belonging to Mark Solar, as he and his friends arrived. He took his sister from Reeve. ‘I thank you all.’ He looked at the female in his arms as though he had never seen her before.

  Patty told him. ‘I placed her in sleep, take her to medical, Dinas is waiting.’ He nodded and turned back to the lifts as his team moved to Patty and said. ‘We would like to help.’

  ‘They are bruised.’ Warned Netta then she turned from them and called. ‘Sonia.’

  ‘Yes Commander.’

  ‘These males would like to help.’

  Sonia smiled and moved closer as she said, ‘Hello.’

  Before she could say more Waseo was there and stated to the males. ‘Mine!’

  Heather coughed back a laugh. ‘Well okay, Waseo take her to medical and I will help the others. Oh and Sonia your sisters are well.’

  ‘Thank you.’ She said her eyes on Waseo as she asked. ‘What do you mean when you say mine?’

  He moved her to the lift. ‘I will explain but we must go see your sisters and visit medical.’

  Heather turned to Netta and enclosed her in her arms. Netta clung to her as Heather whispered. ‘You okay?’

  ‘I lost control.’

  ‘Warranted, I would assume.’

  Netta whispered back. ‘Perhaps, but sloppy.’

  Heather shrugged. ‘It happens to the best of us, and you are one of the best of us. Never forget that sister of mine.’

  Netta sighed, she did not feel she warranted Heather’s praise but she said. ‘Thanks.’

  Heather released her when she saw Bendrix exit the lift. ‘Will you be alright?’

  ‘Yep.’

  Heather nodded then walked to where the three males stood with Patty talking to two females.

  Bendrix leaned against a wall, watching Netta as the foyer emptied. Melody had comm’d him to say Netta needed him, and before she finished speaking, he was in the lift on his way to his Suula.

  Netta sensed him before she saw him. Slowly lifting her head from her link, her heart stuttered at the look on his face. For one of the first times in her life she released the pain she was feeling in a sob of despair. Another escaped when he said with a gentleness that undid her.

  ‘My Suula come, you need to shower and I need to hold you.’

  She walked into his waiting arms and cried into his shirt, whispering around the tears. ‘I lost control. The hopelessness that clung to the apartment like a second skin, made me angry, so dayam angry. I swear poison oozed from the walls of that building.’ She released another sob then said. ‘Bendrix, I am fairly sure the building collapsed when we left.’

  He held her as she cried, knowing what it took for her to show her vulnerability. After a few mins, when the storm of tears subsided and her body relaxed, he guided her into the lift.

  He did not tell her, he had known how bad the situation was, by the way Peyton had walked from the lounge. With a stiff back and an expression of sorrow. Nor did he mention they had heard about three empty buildings mysteriously collapsing in on themselves.

  The last report he heard was that the authorities were to send investigators to determine what had caused this destruction, as nothing like it had ever happened before. They were calling it a spontaneous event.

  By nightfall, people wondered if it was the Star Daughter’s displeasure in the Coalition that caused the collapse. Others said the badly maintained structure was an offense to the Star Son’s memory. Rumors were flying around the city faster than the Draygons.

  As the lifts doors closed Bendrix placed his lips o
n hers and kissed her deeply. She let all the anger and the despair she felt dissolve with that one kiss. When the lift came to a stop, she looked up into his loving face and let him see the emotions she usually kept hidden.

  Before he spoke, she placed a hand on his heart and whispered. ‘Bendrix you are my heart, I thank you for being patient with me. I guess you realized that I have little experience in relationships, but believe me when I tell you. I want you more than I thought I would ever want another being. I need the life I see in your eyes when you look at me. I desperately need you to teach me how to show you how much I love you.’

  ‘My Suula, forever mine.’ Was his only reply as his needar sang and the fire in his heart blossomed. He swept her up in his powerful arms and carried her to his suite where he introduced her to the joys of combining hearts, needars and bodies in the ultimate act of love.
