jumping and relaxation. These were things that took training. Even the relaxation was part of the training. Drop this on the human race unearned, and what would happen? Would thousands of souls fall into the hands of people like the Bracks? They would have no training against it and the unscrupulous would use their abilities to shore up their terrified egos with power over others.

  On the other side, what about the Bracks and their plans to control through dreams? Wouldn't it help to have attention on the dream state, to have many learning how to dream jump? These were the thoughts that puzzled me. There would be time to resolve them, if Elise was right, if I was free.

  I went back to the bed of gravel, still afraid of drifting off. Pain lingered in my memory, but try as I might I couldn't keep from sleeping, even on the gravel.

  Elise was kissing me tenderly. We lay together naked beside a pool of turquoise blue water with the sweet songs of birds in the air. The sun was a mellow warmth that penetrated our bodies and the flurry of our heart beats blended into one. We lie there for a very long time, or no time at all.

  I opened my eyes, regretting I couldn't stay there longer... Elise was beside me, her arms wrapped around my body on the gravel bed.

  She opened those beautiful eyes and we kissed again. I could see over her shoulder out the patio door. The turquoise pool shimmered just beyond us and the fine palms of tall trees waved like hair in a gentle breeze.

  Dreams?
