In the 1960s and 70s Rob and I spent five years in Papua New Guinea where Rob was an officer with the Pacific Islands Regiment. During that time I visited the Trobriand Islands, staying in the rustic timber lodge on the island of Kiriwina, the memories of which I have used in this book.
