Aiden (Grim Sinners MC Book 4) Page 15

by LeAnn Ashers

Aiden glares at me, eye twitching, which doesn’t faze me one bit.

That’s when I hear the motorcycle. I laugh louder and look out the window to see it pull up in front of the house. I rub Aubree’s back, and she laughs at everyone like she knows what is happening. She is two.

Aubree is our daughter. We adopted her a few months ago, and we’ve all fallen in love with her. Aiden and I missed our kids being young, so we decided to open our home to another precious baby.

Aiden gives Leah a look that would surely scare a grown man, but not Leah. We all know he is really just a huge softy.

“You better not tell me that he is on his motorcycle and expects you to get on the back of it,” Aiden says in a voice that is completely calm.

Leah’s eyes widen in an oh shit look. Aiden tears open the door, and we all run outside after him after I put Aubree in her play pen. Aiden stalks down to the guy on the motorcycle, and I hold my breath waiting for him to take off his helmet. I burst out laughing when I see it’s Benjamin who is her friend.

Leah smirks. “Gotcha, Dad.” Aiden holds his heart like he is about to have a heart attack. Aiden is terrified at the thought of her dating.

Then my boys yell, “Look out!” They have somehow magically gotten roman candles and lit them. I run for the house as they all start shooting fireworks at each other.

I turn southern mom in a split second. “If you don’t stop, I’m going to whoop y’alls asses!” Aiden is glaring at the boys, who have done a great job of ignoring him, and Leah is hiding out behind a bush. I don’t know how they got them. I threw them away a week ago, but the boys must have hidden more of them.

Once the roman candles burn out, I step out of the house with my arms across my chest. One by one, they all turn to look at me, pale. Reid tries to wiggle his way out of it. “Mom, these were the last ones.”

I don’t say a word but point toward the house. They slowly make their way inside with their heads hanging down, trying to make me feel sorry for them. Leah runs after them, trying to avoid Aiden at all costs. I have to give her props. It was a good prank. Aiden is extremely protective over her, and she knew he'd freak out if she had a date.

Leah can handle herself though. She has been in MMA for months, and I will not be surprised if, after college, she does it professionally. She still loves softball but she really loves MMA.

Benjamin slowly backs out of the driveway, Aiden glares at him the whole time. Benjamin is a eighteen-year-old prospect at the club.

I sit down on the step, and Aiden walks over and joins me. We look at each other, bursting out laughing. “Our fucking kids, man.” Aiden says like he is so tired.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I lay my head on his shoulder, looking up at the stars.

  Yeah, everything is just perfect.

  The END

  For now

  Author Note

  Author Note:

I have contemplated many times whether I should write this, because this book has been so hard for me. This book is fiction, but Grace’s childhood is based on a true story.

  Whose story you may ask?

  Mine.

Grace’s childhood was so very real because I lived it—her dad was my dad. Her uncle was my uncle.

I could have written a book that was all flowers and daisies, but that’s not real life. I wanted to share this with you guys to show that there is hope at the end of it all.

I was terrified, but I felt the urge to let you guys know that Grace is me. It’s so empowering to do this, but at the same time it’s so scary.

Because I have gone from fewer than five people knowing to sharing it with thousands upon thousands of people.

It’s so freeing; it’s like a burden has been lifted off my chest. Having a voice is powerful, and I want to use my platform to share my story.

I want those who have suffered in any way, shape, or form know you’re not alone. Tomorrow is a new day. It won’t always be shitty. I promise.

  You have this! <3

Thank you all so, so, so much for being a part of my journey and my healing process. This has set my demons free. I thank you for that.

PS: It was really amazing killing off certain characters in this book. ;)
