What She Concealed

“Julian!” She cried seeing a gash on his forehead which has started to bleed profusely. “JULIAN!!” Her scream pierced the night. She looked up and saw the car had hit him and blood now pooled under him. Ethan came running within seconds, Naomi at his heel and checked for Julian’s vital signs. “He’s lost consciousness,” He stated.
“And he’s losing a lot of blood. We need to get him to the hospital.” Naomi said.
“I’ll call for the ambulance,” Eliana said, barely in control.
“For a careful guy, he ends up in an accident too many times for his own good,” Ethan muttered. “And why does he always have to hit his head?” He carefully cradled Julian’s head.
On the way, Eliana called her Jax and informed him of what had transpired. Julian was losing too much blood and was getting paler by the second. So Ethan had resorted to tying Naomi’s wrap on Julian’s forehead to control the bleeding. By the time they reached the hospital, Julian had become paler and was immediately taken to the Emergency Ward.
“Don’t worry, Eliana. It’s Julian. He’ll be alright. Even back in Greenwood, he had this terrible accident with a bike.” Naomi gave him a dark look and shook her head. “The bike didn’t make it but Julian came out of it with barely a scratch.” Ethan continued when Eliana couldn’t stop crying. She felt as if her world was falling apart and she got a taste of how Julian had felt every time she was in harm’s way. Because right then, she would have gladly traded places with him. “What I’m trying to say is that he’s a fighter and he’ll survive. He’ll come back to us.”
“He saved me!” She wept. “He pushed me out of the way and . . .” She felt heavy sobs steal her words away.
“I get it, Eliana. It’s just like him to save everyone without giving himself a damn thought.” Ethan was just as worried about his ex-nemesis.
“If anything happens to him, I won’t ever forgive myself.” Eliana was losing hope with each second she waited for the doctor to save Julian. Naomi laid a consoling hand on Eliana’s back and tried to control her tears. Jax and Carter came rushing to them and stayed at the hospital giving her silent support. Mia arrived as soon as she heard. Andrew had understood when she said Julian had an accident and she had to go to the hospital when Carter had called her and Andrew had driven her there. They prayed hard for Julian to make it. Painful minutes passed by before the doctor came out of the OT.
“He hit his head pretty hard but he’s stable for now, but critical for the next twenty-four hours. I’ve asked for an MRI scan to be done again, so we’ll have to wait and see.” He informed them. None of Julian’s friends went home with him in the ICU. Ethan, Carter, Jax, Mia, and Naomi were in the waiting room while Eliana spent the night sitting on a chair next to Julian’s bed. She was having a hard time breathing as she looked at Julian lying there in the hospital bed, eyes closed. You promised to never say goodbye again. She thought. I can’t lose you either, Julian. Not ever.
She couldn’t just sit there and keep looking at him lying so still except for the small movement his chest made upon breathing. So she took off and ran to the in-house chapel to grieve and pray in solitude. Hours later Ethan called her to come to the ICU. When she reached there, she saw the doctor waiting. “How is he?” She asked upon arrival.
“Two hours.” He said to her seriously. Eliana looked at the others in confusion and they all avoided her eyes.
“What . . . what do you . . . ?” She didn’t understand what was going on.
“If Mr. Rivera doesn’t gain consciousness in two hours, there is a possibility he could go into a coma.” He said. Eliana turned back without a word and ran back to the chapel, went down on her knees, clasped her hand tight and prayed as hard as she had ever prayed in her life, with tears streaming down her face. Please send him back to me. I need him.
When the deadline was nearly up she rushed back to the emergency ward and saw that her friends were all anxiously pacing with tension radiating off them in waves.
“Where is he?” She asked and heard the loud voices of the doctor from the OT. He was operating on Julian. Her legs almost gave way but Ethan reached her in time and held her upright.
“He’s not responding.” The doctor said. “We’ll have to give him a shock, Dr. Susan, Now!” He gave Julian shots with the defibrillators twice and Julian’s chest jerked up in response. But Eliana couldn’t take it anymore.
Neither her mind nor her body.
Nor her heart.
And the last thing Eliana Bennett heard about Julian Rivera before darkness consumed her, was the shout of, “We’re losing him!”
