CHAPTER NINE

Once we got back to Jzar they had greeted him with indifference, once he told them of our mating, however, then they accepted him back quickly in order to study the meaning behind a human and a Jzarian mating. They discovered much through blood work and psychological exams, none of the details were disclosed to us but several Jzarian men that couldn't find their mates on their homeworld were sent to Earth in hopes that some woman out there might be theirs. As for him and I? He got a position as an officer in their army after being tested rigorously and after we helped out by giving them the details of our mating.
He loved his new job, he was only routinely sent out to hunt raiders that might attack outposts on the moons of Jzar. He mostly worked as a consultant, the military would come to him with problems and he would give them a solution, sometimes he was sent out to the field though and despite all my knowledge of how good a warrior he was, it didn't help my heart every time he left me and our child.
The baby was about one year old now, born soon after Osorn got his job here. We named him Koros. Kagi even came by to visit and he had returned to his jovial self, that much we were proud of. Apparently, the young Jzarian was off to Earth to find his own mate, the time had come for him I suppose. We were happy here I felt no need to return although the thought did cross my mind every once in a while. Tursia often sent her scouts to check up on us, sending me whatever I needed, I suppose humans needed to look out for one another out here. Koros was crawling near my ankles now, gripping them and dragging himself up. His skin was a light teal and his smile could brighten even the darkest day. He had the traditional Jzarain tattoos but lacked their red eyes. His were a brilliant shade of green like mine, he did have his father's inclination for the physical, however. They said he was to be a warrior, I would have been lying if I said that the idea sat well with me.
"BABA!" he called out while I saw my husband land, my mate. His ship touched down in front of our homestead and he steps out in his uniform, a slick black battle suit.
"Hey!" my mate called out and took my son into his arms, the planet was mostly desert but he managed to secure quite the spot for the two of us. It was hidden in the mountains, a waterfall nearby and trees all around, the house was built on hard stone but there was plenty of foliage and water surrounding the area. Being the first interspecies couple that Jzarians knew about did have its benefits.
"Welcome home." I said to him as he stepped up to the porch with our son in his arms. I glance
him over to see if there was anything for me to fuss over, there was nothing.
"Come in, let's eat." he said with a smile and opened the front door, I could hear our sun laughing in the background, apparently Jzarian youths grew up a bit quicker than human children. A one year old that was already running and walking around like that, I imagined that I would soon have many more of them in the future.
"Something troubling you?" he asked me when I remained in place, my eyes surveying the grey rock all around our home. I shook my head.
"Not since you got home." I remarked and smiled.
