In Book Three...Grinder
Story three- Grinder- Jonah Robbins—
While on watch one night just as the dawn was breaking Grinder finds a woman Andrea Tennant snapping pictures around the clubhouse. He sees something she doesn’t and he drags her out of the line of fire.
Anaconda’s men spotted her and were about to take her hostage when he grabbed her up.
He brings her to the clubhouse and she’s questioned about why she’s around the clubhouse and why she was spying on them.
Andrea doesn’t know what they are talking about. She’s heard stories about this place and wanted to see if they were true or not. Slammer asks her what stories. She told them the stories are old and most people don’t pay attention to them but there’s one story about the clubhouse having once belonged to a pirate who brought his stolen booty here and that the south wall that overlooked the bay was original all the way back to the pirate’s day. It was also rumored that there was a pirate’s treasure still buried on the grounds somewhere.
When she told the story about the time the Triad beheaded Chan. The Triad refused to come on the ground of the compound. They said they couldn’t come on the burial lands of headless pirate. That being buried without his head, he never got to the other side and
that he haunted the compound yet today. The Triad were afraid the pirate would ride their souls out into the city and begin reeking havoc all over the city.
When Grinder told them a couple of Anaconda’s men tried to grab her, Slammer asked why. Andrea told them about her mission. She wanted to prove the pirates treasure was real and that it was here at the compound.
She’d been doing a series of articles for the paper about the pirate’s hidden treasure.
When someone in the compound tosses little Bess outside, it is Andrea that goes out to rescue her and a hail of bullets get to her.
Someone in the Steel Renegades is working with this unseen enemy, Anaconda and they realize they have to get out and find a way to get at him.
Andrea claims she has that answer. In a book she got at a second hand store.,
Book Four- Mammoth- Danny Couiller- Zoe Brackett
ORIGINAL PLOT OUTLINE BY KJ
Two days after the shootout, Mammoth is on his way home after checking the club’s business when a single gunshot rings out and the big man goes down on a deserted stretch of road. Only it isn’t as deserted at the shooter thinks it is. He rides away leaving the big man in the ditch.
A few minutes later, a figure creeps out of the shadows and checks him out, he’s down but not out but he is hurt. She knows she can’t take him to the hospital. The whole town knew the Renegades were going to war with the street gang no one talked about. He tells her to take him back to the club, he can get help there.
She manages to make him get up so she can to get him in her truck then taking the back roads, she made it as far as the compound where one of the men, Booker who is on patrol found them.
Booker gets them inside. Spider looks at Mammoth’s wounds and it just a graze but he’s lost a lot of blood.
Mammoth insists she stay with him, he tells Booker he offered her his protection. Zoe tells the big guy to get some rest, and she will be fine on her own.
He instead gets up and takes her to his room, despite the condition he is in, he puts her into bed with him and wraps his big arms around her. There’s no way she’s going anywhere.
A few hours later, he begins to have a nightmare, one he’s had before and it’s never a good thing. In his nightmare, he tries to save them but the men couldn’t be saved and Mammoth couldn’t deal with that memory.
The club had already learned the hard way that they shouldn’t wake him from his nightmare but instead to just leave him alone to deal with it and they will help him after it’s over. But Zoe knows firsthand how to deal with PTSD and she helps him.
The next morning, Mammoth is fine. Booker asks her how she did that. He’s been living her for several years and he’s never seen him talked out of an episode before.
Zoe tells them it’s easier if you know what he’s going through.
When Mammoth is able to tell them what happened, how he ended up in the ditch and how she saved him, Slammer knows their time is running out and they still don’t have much to go on.
Something wasn’t kosher here though. He knew his men were loyal and he thought the club women were catty but not a danger but obviously, someone is keeping track on the goings on behind his walls.
Slammer was complaining that if he could find Anaconda they might have a chance to put this to rest finally but he was afraid it wasn’t going to end well for one of them. They didn’t want this fight and hadn’t started it but they wouldn’t let the other side just walk all over them. He also knows that there is someone dangerous to them all right here within the walls. This someone even used a child to get at them.
Zoe knew more about the street gang known as Venom’s Tears than the Renegades ever knew and Slammer realizes that they are directly connected to this war that has driven the Steel Renegades into hiding inside their own club.
When finding out this MC wasn’t going to roll over for this gang that she and the whole town feared, Zoe finally tells them what she knew. She’s been in hiding but for a whole other reason that has nothing to do with the street gang. There was someone out there looking for her and she didn’t want to be found, not by this other man.
When Mammoth asks about this, she wouldn’t tell him. It was her mess and not his. He tells her, she made it his business when she saved his life and is now a part of it all.
Zoe has lots of secrets though... like one is that she knows one or all three of the club women, but she is too terrified to tell anyone about it. The other is something that could possibly defeat their enemy Anaconda. She doesn’t know who to trust, but she finds that Mammoth is one man that never gives up and his club is the same way.
Chapter one
Mammoth was the last one to leave the church room that night. He had been worried about the businesses running themselves for the last week. They needed to get to them and make sure all was well. He’d gotten the go ahead from Slammer to get out, check on the businesses, and get back before dawn, so no one would know he was gone.
He had an extra cycle parked about three blocks away that no one knew about. It was his backup bike but he would use it tonight. He really hated all this secrecy and hiding but it was necessary. They knew someone in the club was a traitor and had yet to find out who. He told Slammer he’d go alone rather than put another brother in danger. He could move faster on his own.
Slammer had reluctantly agreed, but he also told Mammoth to watch his back. Nothing they had on the outside was worth his life.
Mammoth told him he could watch his back and he had a safe house no one knew about if he needed it. He hated sneaking out of the clubhouse but he did it.
The shadows hid him well enough as he made his way to his second bike. When he got on it, he headed out and began making his rounds. First, to the businesses that closed at 7 then afterward, he would head to the bars and the clubs as they were still operating at late hours.
Most of the businesses were doing okay. It took him hours to shore everything up. He straightened out any problems they were having. Then he made sure all the cash deposits had been made. He looked at every week’s final receipts and set the totals into the PC at each office, then made sure to lock each one. He also changed all the passwords to each file as a precaution.
He then answered a number of questions his managers had regarding the bad business with Anaconda. Some of the managers had heard the rumors about a war and he did his level best to assure them all that everything was fine.
Mammoth, AKA Danny Coullier ‒ had never been a quitter and he wasn’t about to start now. He and Grinder had been a huge part of putting all those businesses together for the Steel Renegades, so they could run as a legit club with no illegal side activities. Most of the brothers did not realize that you had to keep on top of things to continue getting the cash and making a routine with regular, happy customers.
He’d already had a discussion with Grinder, as he was the treasurer and kept most of the books. Grinder had said if they produced well enough this quarter they maybe could outdistance the loss of one bar to that fucking snake. But they needed to run things tight and precise. Well, Mammoth figured tight was not from a distance so this trip had been absolutely necessary to him. He had a business degree and most didn’t even know this, except Grinder, Shotgun and Slammer, of course. He took this shit seriously, as he never wanted to end up on the wrong side of the law.
He was a biker, yes, but not a stupid one.
He even tried to impress on the prospects about life inside the joint, not being the freedom they wanted when they’d signed up to be a Steel. You couldn’t have that kind of freedom to deal in drugs and weapons along with sorted contraband and then expect to stay free. It didn’t work that way. The real world did not work that way.
While he agreed with Slammer that this situation with Anaconda was first and foremost...He also was watching their bottom line or they wouldn’t have anything to come out to once they put this asswipe down. Oh yes, Mammoth had it in him to kill when he had to. He felt that this might be one of those ti
mes. He would do it for the survival of the club.
He was on his way home now and felt relief that he had done what he’d set out to do. Now he could focus on fighting this unwanted and odd war with an invisible enemy. He decided to use the parkway instead of the highway. As it was about four in the morning, he wasn’t too worried about anyone seeing him. He felt good and free to get back home in time.
In that moment, he got sloppy and as he turned the corner, a shot rang out. The bullet hit his front tire and he flipped over several times before he came to a stop.
A second bike drove up and stopped. He seemed to stare at Mammoth for several moments before he raised his gun and fired another shot at the downed man. Mammoth jerked as the bullet tore through his body but he didn’t move after that. He knew he had to play possum in order to survive this ambush. He only hoped it would work, as a bullet to the head would finish him, forever.
The biker took off and just left him lying there.
Mammoth couldn’t move anyway, he was semi awake but he had trouble staying that way. His whole body hurt like a sonofabitch and he wondered how the hell he was going to make it out of this as his eyes drooped closed.
Nothing else moved for a long time but eyes watched from the shadows. Then the shadows shifted and a small woman crawled out of the bushes making her way to where the big biker laid.
Zoe had been sleeping in her truck when the first shot rang out. The shot startled her awake. She then stayed where she was when she crept over and saw the bikers. Now, she checked him over quickly and found blood leaking from the wound on his upper chest, just under the collar bone. It wasn’t gushing, so she knew the bullet hadn’t hit an artery and that, right now, was a good thing. It meant he might live to see another day, but they both wouldn’t survive if they didn’t to get the hell out of here... and now.
