Breast Stroke
Breast Stroke is an opposites attract short college romance with a strong curvy heroine and a dirty talking hero. It is the first in the College Sports series and can be read as a standalone.
Maya
I joined the Tempt University swim team to beat records and kick ass.
Instead, I’m working my curves off trying to pick up the slack for the slow pokes on my team.
They think this is all for fun, but I’m here to win. With Districts right around the corner, that’s exactly what I plan to do.
Until Aiden King and his cocky smile get in my head.
That handsome jerk somehow swam his way into my brain, but with a fierce competition ahead of us, there’s no time for distractions.
The thing is, I can’t seem to drown him out for the life of me…
Aiden
Maya Martinez is serious, sassy, and sexy as hell, especially when she’s mad at me for swimming too slow.
She’s the fastest swimmer in the history of Tempt University’s co-ed relay team, and she never lets me forget it.
The only thing faster than that curvy woman is how quick she is to judge me.
To her, I’m just the slow poke teammate she always rolls her pretty eyes at.
But I see right through her little charade, and her skintight one-piece.
Maya wants me. Almost as bad as I want her.
And after we win districts tomorrow, I’ll make sure that Maya and I celebrate in a post-competition heat of our own.
If you love sexy opposites attract sports romances with witty banter and a dash of humor, you’ll love this book. No cliffhangers in this fun college romance.
This story takes place at Tempt University, where academic tensions run high and everyone is overdue for a sizzling, lust-fueled fling to get back on track (even the professors).
Welcome to Tempt University!
Chapter One
Maya
“Hurry the fuck up!” My voice is just one in a chorus of screaming voices from the deck. I inch forward on the block, place my goggles over my eyes, and silently curse Aiden for being so goddamn slow.
He’s a tall guy, just over six feet, so his backstrokes naturally look effortless in the water, but I know he’s holding himself back just to piss me off. And I know he’s watching me as he nears the edge of the pool because even through the waves of heavily chlorinated water shimmying around his face, I can still make out the smile tugging on the corner of his mouth. I grip the edge of the block with my toes, ready to launch.
Just before Aiden’s fingertips reach the tiled wall beneath me, the invisible chord of tension keeping me in place snaps, and I haul myself forward, diving into the water with the kind of perfection that comes from years and years of practice.
I cut through the water like a torpedo missile, savoring the way the water feels rushing past my skin. I love this part of the race. The first jump, catapulting myself into another world, leaving everything behind on the block. Even if it’s just for a minute or two, when I’m in the water, I’m as fast as a Marlin. Not even the cheers of my teammates can be heard beneath the surface. It’s the only place in the whole world where I’ll allow myself to get lost in the moment.
But just as quickly as the serenity envelopes me, it comes crashing down as I break the surface of the water. The reverberating sounds of the indoor pool penetrate my ears for just a second as I gulp down a breath, then dunk back into my signature move—the breaststroke.
I continue through my portion of the relay race until I reach the end, my propulsion halted by the wall. Yanking myself from the water, I plop down on the edge of the pool and lean over my teammate Kamila’s shoulder, trying to get a glimpse of the two stopwatches in her hand.
“Time?” I ask, but I see the digital numbers an instant later, and I don’t need her to answer me to know who won.
“Damnit!” I smack the ground with a wet SPLAT.
“You only lost by two seconds,” she says. I roll my eyes and stand up, pushing past Aiden and my other teammates in search of my water bottle by the empty stands. “It’s just practice,” she adds. “Not like we’re playing for anything.”
I grab my water bottle and take a swig, watching from the sidelines of the empty 5-lane indoor pool as my teammates goof around doing belly dances and armpit farts like a bunch of elementary school kids. They’re ecstatic because we made it to the second-round qualifiers for Districts this year, which hasn’t happened on the Tempt University co-ed swim team in ten years.
Funny, they make it farther than they’ve ever been the very same year I join the team.
I let out a deep breath, reminding myself that yes, it is practice. But still, every swim counts. Especially when it’s up to me to make up for the slowpokes on our team.
Speaking of whom, Aiden King steps near me and onto the second level of the bleachers, announcing to everyone in his I’m assistant coach, bow to me voice, “Great practice, everyone. And Angela, extra points for the belly dancing.” They all chuckle, and Aiden gives Angela a solid thumbs up. I stifle a major eye roll.
The only reason Aiden is leading this practice is because Coach Miller put him in charge as her right-hand man whenever she can’t make it to practice. If anyone should be assistant coach, it should be me. I’m the fastest one on the team, and everyone knows it. But even grown-ass women aren’t impervious to Aiden King’s stellar swimmer’s bod and deep, manly voice.
Especially grown-ass women.
The second Aiden flashes his bright white smile, every female in the vicinity gets weak in the knees and starts making googley eyes.
Except for me, because he’s a cocky asshole and as slow as a goddamn manatee.
“Alright, that’s it for today,” he adds, waving everyone away. “Go home and get some rest. We’ve got a big day tomorrow.”
“Thanks King, see ya tomorrow.” Angela salutes him as she, Kamila, and George grab their bags and head to the locker room. I ignore Aiden’s instructions and step back on the block.
“Did you hear me, Martinez? Practice is over,” Aiden calls to me. “You’re on taper.”
I cock my hip to the side and stare him down as he approaches my block. Even with me standing on this thing, he’s still a few inches taller than me. He gives me a knowing smirk, like he’s entertained by my will to win.
“Unlike the rest of the team, I’m serious about winning tomorrow,” I say.
“So are we. Angela and George improved by two whole seconds today. The taper works, which is why you’re gonna continue to lay low and let it all out tomorrow. At the meet.” He leans closer, asserting his dominance as if he knows better than me.
“Thanks, but I’m good.” I snap my cap into place, the punctuation to my defiance.
“Maya, I don’t want you to get worn out.”
I let out a bark of laughter. “Please, I barely broke a sweat today. You don’t know how to lead practice.”
