It seemed like as good a place as any. I reached into my pocket, pulled out the ring, and dropped to one knee.

  Sarah’s jaw went slack.

Good. I was glad I could still surprise her, even after a year together.

“Sarah, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”

Her lips were pressed so tightly as she fought tears, I had to wonder if she’d be able to get any answer out at all. But damn, I so wanted to hear that yes.

We might have moved far past that time when she’d tried to cut things off between us because she was scared and insecure, and I thought a year together would have convinced her our age difference didn’t matter, but I wasn’t confident enough to assume anything. She could just as easily say no as yes.

It would kill me if she did say no, but that was the truth of it. It could happen.

Finally, after what felt like forever, she nodded.

I drew in a shaky breath. “Is that a yes?” I asked to be sure.

She nodded again and I was up off my knee and kissing the hell out of her in seconds.

Luckily, her apartment was only fifteen minutes away from the hotel where the event was being held. Once we were through the door of her place, we were naked in thirty seconds flat.

I had her on her back beneath me even faster than that.

That would normally be the time I’d remember to get out a condom and put it on. I was hard as a rock and pressed against her entrance, dying to get inside of my woman. But tonight felt different.

Tonight, she was wearing my ring.

She was going to be my wife. Take my name—if she decided that’s what she wanted.

I knew what I wanted. “Sarah. I wanna start trying for a baby. Not after the wedding. Now. Tonight.”

We’d talked about kids, at least in theory, after that day when her mother had accused her of not wanting children.

Her mom was wrong. Sarah did want kids. At least one, maybe two, but she was afraid she was too old.

That was when I’d ticked off half a dozen women I knew personally, some in my own family, who’d had babies at forty or older.

Now felt like the right time to put that theory into practice.

Her lips trembled as her eyes got glassy with tears. Her throat worked as she swallowed hard. “Okay. Let’s try and make a baby.”

  I grinned. “Fork, yeah.”

She laughed. I didn’t, because I’d just slid inside this woman unsheathed for the first time ever and holy heck, there was no blood left in my brain for anything else but the knowledge of how amazing it felt.

The slick heat of her body surrounding mine. The flesh against flesh with nothing separating us felt too good.

I was holding on by sheer force of will.

“I’m not gonna last,” I gasped, afraid to move, as much as I was dying to.

“Then we’ll just have to do it again.”

God, how I loved this woman. And she was right. We could do it again. And again. And again. Now and for the rest of our lives.

I plunged inside her, coming once, and staying hard enough I kept going. With no condom, I didn’t need to pull out and change into a fresh one.

She came sometime during round two, which threw me right into my second orgasm.

I was fighting for breath while wondering if I could stay hard enough for round three when her cell buzzed on the nightstand where she’d tossed it.

“Darn it. I forget to text Liza. It’s probably her.”

“I’ll grab it for you.” Rolling off her, I reached out and snagged her cell. That's when I got a look at the text on the display before I handed it over to her. What I saw had me smiling. “It’s not your sister.”

“Who is it?” she asked as she took it from me.

  “Just read it.” I grinned.

It was from her boss and it said, “I thought about it. You can work remotely. I’d still like to meet Monday to discuss if you’re available.”

Her gaze met mine. I saw the surprise in her eyes.

  “Happy?” I asked.

She nodded, crawling on top of me as she said, “So forking happy.”

I laughed, until she reached between us and grasped me in her fist. This was no longer a laughing matter.

We definitely had some serious forking to do.
