Everyone started talking again, acting like we hadn’t just been sort of married.
“This doesn’t really count, does it?” I asked Gabe.
“No….probably not,” he said, shaking his head. “I’d have to check with a lawyer first.”
“We didn’t get a marriage license yet.”
“I didn’t ask you to marry me yet.”
“But you were going to, right?”
“Yeah, I mean, mine was going to be more romantic than that.”
I thought about it for a moment and turned to him. “I’m actually okay with it. It does save us on the wedding. I mean, everyone was here.”
“There’s cake,” he pointed out.
“And wedding music.”
“And I didn’t have to wear a monkey suit.”
“And he sort of already married us.” I wiggled my ring finger in the air. “What’s the point in doing it again? We could just go to city hall and get it legalized.”
“That’s true.”
“And the kids are staying with Sam and Vanessa tonight.”
“It’s like our wedding night,” he smirked.
“Yeah,” I agreed.
“Yeah.”
“So, we’re married.”
“We’re married,” he agreed.
“Well, I’m gonna go show the girls my ring.”
“I’m gonna go do whatever guys do when they get married or engaged slash married.”
“Cool.”
I turned to walk away, but Gabe grabbed me by the arm and pulled me into him. “I didn’t kiss the bride.”
“No, you didn’t,” I said breathlessly.
He held me tight as he smashed his lips to mine. His hands roamed over my body a little too much for in public, but what did I care? It was my wedding day after all. It was our first kiss as husband in wife, in the middle of someone else’s wedding, next to a grill and kiddie pool. It was perfect. He broke the kiss and gazed into my eyes.
“I love you, Mrs. Moore.”
“I love you, too, Mr. Moore.”
“I like the sound of that.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively at me.
“You’ll like it even more when I’m shouting it tonight.”
