Tony hoped they wouldn’t see a river rat and be disillusioned.
Rita said, “A snake, probably.”
Tiana said, “Snakes have to live, too.”
Tony rested back on the bench more assured of their resilience. He looked up at the trees. He saw nubs at the end of branches that would form into leaves. He knew that for his family spring would come again.
