A Bride to Heal His Broken Heart

“No, we wouldn’t. Do you think your father will be terribly upset we didn’t name the baby after him?”
“Pa? Not in the slightest. But, are you sure you don’t want to name the baby after your pa?”
“Mark Ian Wilson?” Lorna tried the name out. “It doesn’t quite flow off the tongue like it should. How about your father’s name? Mark Silas Wilson?”
Darren shook his head. “Too much.”
Silence settled over them and then Lorna suggested, “How about we save our fathers’ names for our next children?”
“You just gave birth and you’re already thinking about more children?” Darren asked in surprise.
“Mark is going to need brothers and a sister or two.”
“Agreed, but can we wait for a while? Seeing you in pain and imagining what you went through is too fresh in my mind right now.”
Lorna nodded, silently wholeheartedly agreeing with him. “How about Mark Anthony?”
“Mark Anthony. I like it.” Darren looked down at his son and whispered, “What do you think, Mark? Does Anthony sound like a good middle name?”
“‘Tis a strong name,” Tenaya stated, having entered the tent quietly.
Lorna smiled at the chief. “Chief Tenaya, may I introduce our son, Mark Anthony Wilson.”
The chief observed the infant and then clapped his hands and laughed. “This calls for a celebration. You will rest here tonight and we will have a feast. I will send someone to the ranch to invite the others to join us. The Great Mother has looked favorably upon you both.”
He left the tent and Darren shook his head. “Guess we’ve been invited to stay.”
Lorna smiled and then took Mark back, tucking him against her side as he slept. “I’m not going to complain. The thought of getting back into that wagon right now is less than pleasant.”
Darren nodded and then lay down beside her, their son between them. “Thank you for giving me such a beautiful son.”
Lorna stared into her husband’s eyes, loving this man who’d given her a place to call home. “I love you, husband.”
“And I love you, wife. We’ll start work on our own house in a few weeks. By summer’s end, we’ll have a place to raise Mark and his future siblings.”
“A place to call our own.”
“Home. We’ll have our own home.”
“I can’t wait.” Lorna leaned over and kissed him, her heart bursting with love and excitement for what the future held for them. She’d taken a chance on finding love when she’d stepped onto that train so many months ago. Baby Mark was a living testimony that she’d made the right decision.
Nowhere could she have ever found a man who could love her like Darren did. He was her life. He wanted to build them a house, but Lorna knew that no matter where the future took them, as long as she was by Darren’s side, she would be home.
