“You don’t know what they’re capable of!” Rex’s voice rose.

“I know that they won’t hurt me. Not ever. I trust them.” Emma’s voice was sharp. “I care about them. Anyway, this isn’t your choice, Rex. It’s my life.”

My mouth dropped open as I leaned against the wall. I’d never sensed Rex felt like this about witches. About me.

“That girl in there is a threat to me. To us.”

  My blood ran cold.

First, because he called me girl.

  Man, I hate that.

What did he think I would do to him? To Emma?

“You’re not her enemy, Rex,” Emma said forcefully. “And she isn’t your enemy.”

“Did you ever stop to think about the risks at all?” Rex growled. “You’ve got to get away from her. You don’t even know what you’re talking about. Look at what’s happened to you the past few days! Murderous pixies, potion comas? Wake up, Emma! She’s not some run-of-the-mill country-bumpkin witch. She’s military-trained!”

“So am I, Rex. Enough.” I could hear the echo of her resolve. When Rex didn’t respond, she added, “She’s right in there. Her family opened their home to us. Invited us to dinner. You’re being crazy right now. Astra’s my friend. And they accept you more than Mom and Dad, you know…look, just stop this.”

“I’m not going back to Las Vegas,” Rex said forcefully, his voice louder than usual. “If you can’t use your brain enough to get away from the paranormal before it turns on you, then someone has to stay here and protect you from your own idiocy.”

  My eyes grew wide.

  Well.

  This should be fun.

Typos happen. It's sad, but true.

Though we go over the manuscript multiple times, have editors, have beta readers, and advance readers, it's inevitable that determined typos and mistakes sometimes find their way into a published book.
