He lifts me in his arms and carries me to the bedroom. He puts me on my feet, and puts his arms over his head and smiles at me. I smile back, lifting his shirt up and over his head tossing it to the side.

I kiss his chest, dropping kisses lower and lower until I reach his shorts. I pull them down followed by his briefs and his hands brush mine as he reaches for the tie of my robe.

He unties it in one swift motion and it drops to the floor. He leans down capturing my lips against his, hard and frantic as he wraps an arm around my back and drops us to the bed. He catches his weight, dropping his arm next to my body and his length rubs against my clit.

  “Yes Devin,” I hiss.

He reaches in between us, grabbing the base of him and rubs himself through my slick folds, coating his cock in my juices.

“My God you're gonna make me come just from doin’ that, I swear,” I moan.

He takes that as an invitation and rubs his head faster against my clit, up and down my slit.

I reach in between and move his hand away, wrapping my own around him.

“Let me do it. I wanna feel you,” I command.

He braces both hands above my shoulders as I take him in my hand and rub him against my clit. I watch his face contort into pleasure as he grows harder and harder in my hand. His nostrils flare as his breathing quickens and I'm so close.

“Watch me,” I demand. “Open your eyes and watch me come all over your cock,” I moan lifting my head to smash our lips together.

I feel my release start to boil over and I drop my head, jerking his erection faster into my clit and bite my lip hard, coming undone. I watch his gaze harden as he watches me come, a smile slowly painting my lips and he smirks.

  “You dirty, talkin’ minx.”

“What can I say, I've had a great teacher, caveman.”

He starts to lean away from me, and I grab his erection keeping him in place. I dip my middle and index fingers through my folds and rub them onto his cock. He closes his eyes and groans as I pull him closer to my opening.

  “What are you doin’ darlin'?”

“I'm on the pill Devin. I want you like this. You know I'm safe if...if you wanna.”

“I uh...I'm safe I never...I always use a condom. I...I've had one too many women claimin’ that they're pregnant with my kid and…”

“Got it,” I say cutting him off.

I lean over to the nightstand, pretending that his words don't hurt. It's fast Normani, he needs to put a lot of trust in you. Just because you're starting to trust him, doesn't mean he's there yet.

He grabs my wrist and I turn looking to him.

“You ain't one of those woman Normani.”

He grabs the base of him slowly sliding into me as I close my eyes and groan. The protrusion still so real as he goes deeper. I look down and watch my body take him in and the sight is intoxicating.

“Like that darlin’? Look at your pussy takin’ my whole cock. You feel so good, I swear I'll never get enough of you.”

I nod reaching behind him and grab his ass, pulling him into my body as far as he can possibly go. He smiles against my lips as he dips down for a kiss.

“Knew you were thinkin’ about my ass,” he growls.

I laugh and shake my head as he pushes in the rest of the way and I gasp.

  “Oh fuck me,” I groan.

  “My pleasure darlin’.”

Devin grabs onto my hips as he kneels in front of me and slowly starts to move, pulling my body back and forth onto him. His hands go around my back and he sits on the bed, lifting me in his lap. He's sitting crossed leg underneath me and he's so deep, I whimper as he starts to rock back and forth, my legs wrapped around his back. My arms are draped over his shoulders and he holds my body hostage against his, grinding into me. Facing each other, being this close, this intimate, the movement of us rubbing together against my clit causes me to shiver above him.

He quickly drops me back to the bed as he lifts one of my legs to his shoulder, pounding into me from above.

  “Fuck Devin, you're so deep.”

“Good darlin’? Or too much?” he asks his voice wavering.

  “Good, good, so fuckin’ good.”

He takes my hand and puts it in between us, moving it down to cup my sex.

“Make yourself come again, I’m almost there.”

He doesn't have to tell me twice. I rub my clit with my middle finger, faster and faster keeping up with Devin’s rhythm.

“Uhhhhh,” he groans pumping harder into me, breaking his rhythm as he explodes inside me.

The feeling of his release inside me has my walls squeezing around him, crying out his name, as I shatter.

  “God yessss.”

“Mmm darlin’. You're my undoin’, you know that?”

  “Good caveman, because you're mine.”

He smiles as his lips brush against mine and he lays down next to me, pulling me flush against his chest as he reluctantly slips out of me.

“Lay with me for a little, then we'll clean up,” he whispers.

I nod, burrowing myself closer to him, tucking my body safely in his embrace.

  Chapter 12

  Normani

“Congrats are in order?” Miguel asks from next to me.

“What?” I ask putting my hair up in a ponytail.

He hands me his phone and there, blasted all over social media is Devin and me, kissing in the stands of his spring training practice yesterday.

  That's not the bad part.

Above the picture is Devin announcing our engagement.

“So happy to announce that Normani Jameson finally put me at ease and accepted my proposal. I will be by her side ALL the time. We are a team. When she hurts, I hurt, when she smiles, I smile, when someone messes with her, they're gettin’ Gavinwood.”

  “What the fuck,” I whisper.

“Okay good, I was gonna say, thanks for lettin’ me find out on social media. You weren't in on this?”

“No! What the hell is he doin’? When did he post this? He was with me all night and asleep this mornin’ when I left,” I yell.

“It was about a half hour ago. The caption sounds a little alpha if you ask me. Looks kinda like a warnin’,” Miguel says shrugging.

  “I’m gonna kill him.”

I brush past Miguel and grab my phone in my bag.

I dial Devin's number, but it rings and rings without an answer.

I throw it back in my bag with a groan and walk towards the heavy bag, ignoring Miguel's warning to wrap my hands.

I start pounding away at it without stopping, without any sort of technique or rhythm. I grunt as I hit it harder, releasing all my frustrations in my life: my past coming back to haunt me a lot sooner than planned, my newfound freedom of my father being dead suddenly ripped away, Devin thinking he knows what's best for me.

I ignore the sweat pouring down my face, stinging my eyes, the hair that's escaped my ponytail, the skin of my knuckles that are slowly breaking open.

“You get blood on the bag, you're disinfecting it. I'm not the cleaning crew.”

“Fuck off Miguel,” I growl continuing to punch the bag.

I hear the chime on the door of the studio and freeze. It's morning hours, everyone knows the studio doesn't officially open until noon and my blood runs cold. I turn around slowly and let out an exasperated breath.

“You have some fuckin’ nerve Gavinwood,” I snap going back to pounding the bag, now picturing his face as the target.

“I'm sorry,” I hear him say in a strained voice.

I spin around and walk towards him.

“Sorry? You had no right to go to the media and say that, trap me into that!”

“I ain't tryin’ to trap you, I'm tryna protect you. If they know you ain't alone anymore, that you got me on your side-”

  “I don't need your protection!”

“He's got a point Mani. They know I can't be with you 24/7 but if you're engaged to Gavinwood, you know he ain
t lettin’ you out of his sight. Everyone knows how crazy he is. No offense,” Miguel says.

  The fucking traitor.

“I can do it on my own,” I snap to the both of them.

“I know you can, but you don't have to Normani. Just let me be there for you. I lost my mind the other night, knowin’ I wasn't there for you,” Devin pleads.

“I handled it,” I say through gritted teeth.

“Yeah, with a fat fuckin’ lip and black eye?” Devin snaps pointing at my face.

“He didn't walk away unscathed. That's what happens in a fight.”

“Well I'm helpin’, end of discussion.”

  “No, you're not!”

“Fight it out,” Miguel says shrugging his shoulders.

  “What?” Devin asks dumbfounded.

“Fight it out. Whoever wins gets to choose.”

“I aint fightin’ him. God knows they'll be a death threat on my life if I ruin that pretty face. I got enough people after me,” I grumble.

  “Let's do it,” Devin says.

“Dammit Devin stop this. You have no idea what you're gettin’ yourself into. I shouldn't have dragged you through this, just leave it be,” I say frustrated.

“I ain't walkin’ away from you Normani. No way in hell.”

“Fine. You wanna get involved in this, let’s go. You don't have a clue what these people are capable of. They made me into this, so if you can't beat me you sure as hell can't beat them.”

I turn towards my gym bag on the floor and wrap my hands, first the left then the right. I wiggle my fingers and make sure it's not too tight then put on my gloves.

I turn around and watch Miguel help Devin into gloves and I hop up to the ring, bending under the rope.

I bounce around a few times and watch Devin’s eyes roam up and down my body.

He won't even last a minute if he can't keep his eyes off my tits.

  “Go!” Miguel yells.

Devin runs forward and I duck under his punch.

  Too eager, mistake number one.

He turns around quickly and retreats, playing it safe.

  Mistake number two.

I bounce, faking a forward punch and his hands go up to cover his face and I land a punch to his stomach. He leans forward and I squat, whipping around and swiping his legs.

I scramble on top of him, taking his right arm in between my legs and stretching it into an armbar, causing him to tap on my thigh to release him. I sit up and straddle his lap as I take off my gloves looking down at him.

“You may have the anger, but you lack any sort of technique. You'll be dead before you can even register what's goin’ on.”

Devin quickly lifts his hips and I fall off his lap, my back banging against the floor of the ring and he pins my hands above my head, his legs straddling my body. I grit my teeth and struggle underneath him.

“I can't fight you, Normani. You're my woman. If you thought for one second, I was gonna hurt you, you're delusional. We're engaged, no discussion needed.”

“Why can't we just be in a relationship, why does it have to be an engagement?” I groan.

“Because we have been, and he still had someone jump you. Engagement is a whole new level darlin’. Now, enough talkin’ about it, that's what's happenin’.”

“Your dominance outside the bedroom isn't hot,” I growl, lifting my leg and kneeing him in the balls

He groans rolling off of me and I get to my feet quickly exiting the ring.

“Not nice fiance,” Devin laughs with a groan.

“Have fun icin’ your balls, future husband, see yourself out.”

I hear Miguel laugh as I walk towards the locker room to shower and get ready for work.

  Chapter 13

  Normani

I turn my phone on silent as I see another missed called from Devin. I shake my head walking into DPPT and Bella rushes over to me.

“So, where's the ring?” Bella gushes as I walk into work. “I can't believe you, by the way. I tell you about the baby and you keep an engagement from me? I thought Damon and I moved fast y'all are-. Wait, what the hell happened to your face and why do you look upset?” she says stopping her rant.

“Because the engagement is fake and this is the reason for it,” I say pointing to my face. “I thought I covered it up enough,” I grumble.

“Normani, come over here right now and sit,” Bella demands patting one of the beds.

“Well you got the mama tone down, chill a little, I'm comin’.”

I hop up on the bed and turn towards Bella. She reaches inside a bag and takes out concealer, dabbing under my eye and I flinch.

  “What happened?” she whispers.

  “One of my father’s men.”

I confided in Bella and Lacey about my past a couple months back, the only two people besides Miguel and Savannah who know everything. Devin is slowly becoming one of them, but it's different with him. I want him to keep looking at me with admiration, not disgust. When he knows the full truth, who knows if he'll still want me.

“I thought he was dead,” she says confused.

“So did I. Apparently not. Miguel is updatin’ me, I don't know what to expect.”

“Let me take a wild guess. My brother saw your face and that's what prompted the engagement?”

I nod and she lets out a breath.

“I thought the post sounded a little caveman.”

“That's your brother in a nutshell.”

“Listen Mani,” Bella says as she continues to conceal my black eye. “I know he has that side to him, the stubborn can't say a word side. Unfortunately, that's the Gavinwood curse, but he also has that protective side. When he loves someone, he will go to the end of the earth for them. He means well, he doesn't always go about it in the best way, but he doesn't like feelin’ inadequate. He's a protector and he sees a problem and he needs to help fix it. He was the man of the house for a long time, it's just his nature. Please don't give up on him,” Bella says softly, closing up her makeup kit.

I nod and sigh, knowing she’s right. My father always knew I had Miguel on my side but that never stopped him from summoning me whenever he damn well pleased. Maybe with Devin by my side he’ll back off, realizing I'm not that young girl anymore, I have my own life now, away from him. I can fight back now, with the help of my man.

  My man.

I love those words too much to let them go.

“You're right. Dammit. Mind if I shoot him a quick text before I start? Ask him to come for lunch?”

“Be my guest. I'll even extend your lunch break if you want,” she says winking. “Just...keep it down. Just cuz I know about it, don’t mean I wanna hear it.”

“Noted,” I laugh. “Thanks Bells,” I say hopping off the bed giving her a hug.

“Hey, you're my future sister in law, we gotta get along, no?”

I laugh and shake my head walking towards my office grabbing my purse off the bed. I fish out my phone and text Devin, asking if I can call him.

A couple of seconds later I see his face appear on my screen and I answer.

  “Hi,” I say softly.

  “Hey.”

I can hear the uncertainty in his voice, and I wonder briefly if he's changed his mind. Maybe my life is too much for him, the danger too real and he wants out.

“So, your phone works all the sudden, huh?” he says breaking me out of my insecurities.

“I…I'm sorry I didn't answer your calls I just needed time to cool down. Do you wanna come eat lunch with me today? I can order Tex Mex?”

  “Sure. Text me a time.”

  “Okay. I will.“

We hang up the phone and I throw my head back letting out a groan. I ignore the anxiety and get to work, praying the time goes fast.

As I glance over to the wall, I see the time and walk back towards my office.

I sit in my chair spinning left then right, waiting as the clock on my wall ticks. I hear a soft knock and jump in my seat looking at the doorway.<
