As she entered her bedroom, though, all thoughts of dresses flew out of her mind. Sitting on her bed and leaning up against the headboard was the painting from the art gallery, the one she’d loved so much and shown Rusty. “What?”
“Surprise,” he said from the doorway.
She spun around. “What is this doing here?”
He shrugged. “I thought you deserved a little thank-you gift for being so willing to give up your life here and come back to South Dakota with me. That was quite the sacrifice, and I wanted you to know, I appreciate it.”
“So you bought me this painting?”
“I thought it might look nice in the new herb shop.”
Alana took three running steps and ended up in his arms. “Thank you,” she said. “This is the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received.”
“And you’re the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received,” he replied, lowering his face to hers and kissing her until she couldn’t even feel her toes anymore.
