He redrew the seal, and tried to see what happened to Wesley afterwards, but for some reason, his memories afterwards seemed to be covered in darkness, making the patriarch unable to see them clearly.

After a few minutes of trying, the patriarch finally gave up. In an effort to not look too confused, he looked at Wesley with a deep expression and nodded.

“I’ve confirmed the situation at hand. I’ll recommend you to the Reiniad Elementary Institute of Magic, and you will continue your education. Arthur here, is your mother’s brother, your uncle. He’ll take care of you from here on out.

  “Any complaints, Arthur?”

  “No, patriarch!”

Arthur stepped forward and brought Wesley back away from the patriarch, and patted Wesley’s shoulder a few times.

The patriarch said one final thing to Wesley. “I received notice from his majesty a week ago that the King of the Conarite Kingdom has died, and the third prince has taken control of the Conarite Kingdom and will hold his coronation soon. Of course, we will have him pay the full price of killing one from the Lumient family - The flames of war are ready to be fanned.”

He then looked toward Gust. “Now, you. Who are you?”

Gust stepped forward. “Hello, sir. I’m the illustrious Gust, son of - ah, um, I’m the one who helped Wesley here from the Conarite Kingdom.”

“Mm. So why are you here? Arthur?”

“Sorry, he declined the prize, and would like to instead request that he be admitted into a Hunter Academy instead.”

“Oh?” The patriarch cast an interested eye over Gust. “Rare to see a youngster with ambition these days. A Hunter Academy is no problem, I’ll have a talk with some headmasters tomorrow.

Arthur explained the patriarch’s words. “The patriarch is also the headmaster of the Lumient Intermediate Academy of Magic, so it’s very easy for him to ask favors of the headmasters of other academies. Both of your “recommendations” will be handled this way.”

“Arthur, please have one of the servants find them quarters to live in for the time being. I need to talk to you afterwards.”

  “Yes, patriarch.”

A servant quickly showed up and motioned for Gust and Wesley to follow him.

Gust leaned down to whisper in Wesley’s ear. “Jeez, the Lumient family really is rich to hell…did you see the inside of that hall? Maybe I should’ve kept the money.”

  Wesley responded. “Perhaps.”

“How do you feel? You’re finally home, safe and sound.”

“I’m really tired...great-gramps is really intimidating.”

“You said it… I thought I was gonna pee my pants for a moment there.”

Years later, Gust would remember this moment, and laugh. He’d almost traded his future for a pile of gold.

After a short moment, the two had been led into a corner of the estate, then into individual rooms. The inside of each room was decorated lavishly, each piece of furniture covered in intricate designs.

The first thing each of them did, however, was to plop onto their beds.

  “Ahhh….”

Their journey, for now, was finally over.

After Arthur finished speaking with the Patriarch, he went to visit Wesley, but when he entered the room, he saw that Wesley was fast asleep.

He stared at Wesley, then walked out the door.

  Just moments earlier.

“Gramps, didn’t you say you’d turn them away?”

  “He looked like your father.”

  “Dad?”

“When he was young. Besides, it seemed like Patricia had been happy with the Gia family… and ultimately, it’s not their fault.”

  Patriarch Lumient rubbed his temples.

“The Kenta and Pooles Kingdoms are both eyeing the Conarite Kingdom after the recent death of its King. I’ve spoken with the King, and we will work with the Kenta Kingdom to support their soldiers with our mages, but we can’t send too many, as the Clairmont Kingdom seems to be recruiting soldiers as well.

"Arthur… Wesley, Patricia's kid… I checked his mana pool and channels, and they've both developed far beyond those of any other kid his age that I've ever seen."

  “Are you saying…”

“Yes. He has definitive potential to be a King-class mage. Understand?”

  “Understood.”

  With that, Arthur left.

Just a few weeks later, shocking news reached the citizens of the Reiniad Kingdom: The Kenta and Pooles Kingdoms had both begun conscripting soldiers.
