The Princess
Page 32
The crowd was so stunned that no one spoke until one man yelled, “What does Princess Aria say?”
“No!” Aria said, and J.T. looked at her. “You went off and left me. I could never trust you to—”
J.T. pulled her into his arms and kissed her and the crowd began to cheer. “I couldn’t bear living without you,” he shouted to her over the din the crowd was beginning to make. “And the people asked for me, so you don’t have to abdicate. And have you ever heard of Warbrooke Shipping?”
She was a bit too dazed to understand. “No. Does it have to do with boats? Jarl, we don’t need boats. We need schools and wells and—”
He kissed her again.
“Long live King Jarl,” the crowd shouted.
“Prince!” Aria yelled into the microphone. “Prince Jarl,” she said, but no one heard her.
“Come on, baby, let’s go home,” J.T. yelled. “I brought some members of my family with me. We’re going to bring this country of ours into the twentieth century.”
She slipped her arm around him, forgetting she was in public and that she was a princess. “Ours,” she said, smiling. “Our country.”
