I need his touch to wash Hendrix’s away…

On my knees, I was about to stand all the way up when the door swung open for a second time. Without having to look, I already know who it was.

  Uh oh…

“Fuck, Carissa, get off me,” Hendrix said, wide-eyed.

Not needing to be told twice, I jumped up and spun around, coming face to face with Kyle.

Waving a hand in the air, I smiled. “Hi, honey!”

Hands fisted, Kyle’s jaw ticked, yet he said nothing. Not even sparing me a glance, his eyes were locked on Hendrix, who’d climbed to his feet behind him.

“It isn’t what it looks like,” I rushed to continue. “We just… uh, well, we fell.”

“Goddamn, C,” Hendrix groaned. “That’s the worst excuse.”

I turned my head, glaring at him over my shoulder. “But it’s the truth! It’s not my fault your Behemoth self was too busy running out of the building like the hounds of hell were chasing you to pay attention to what, or rather who, you were about runover.”

Hendrix scoffed. “I left my pie in the truck. I was going to get it before Ty smelled it and stole it. Asshole is always finding my food and eating it.”

I blinked. “You almost killed me for pie?”

He looked at me like I was crazy. “It’s a Dottie pie.”

Having eaten one—or five—of Dottie’s pies before, I understood where he was coming from. But still, that wasn’t the point. “You owe me half now.”

Hendrix’s face dropped. “The hell you say! We’ll have to fight this one—”

“Enough,” Kyle said, his voice calm. I whipped my head back around to face him. “Come inside, Beautiful Girl. Mosquitos are out and I don’t want you to get ate up.”

“That mean you aren’t going to kill me?” Hendrix asked, his voice holding a smidge of surprise.

Kyle pointed toward the security camera. “Saw y’all collide on the monitors in Cap’s office.”

Hendrix blew out a relieved breath. “Thank Christ. Now, if y’all don’t mind, I’m going to get my pie.”

Ty chose that moment to step outside. “What kind of pie?”

I couldn’t hold back the bark of laughter that erupted from my chest.

Smiling from ear to ear, Kyle closed the space between us, bent at the waist and tossed me over his shoulder like he’d done multiple times before. “Come on, Princess. It’s time for me and you to spend some time together.”

Still laughing, I reached down and spanked his behind three times. “Wait!” I yelled as we started to move. “I want to see Ty and Hendrix fight over one of Mrs. Dottie’s pies.”

“Oh what the fuck?” Ty said. “It’s a Dottie pie?”

“Yes!” I yelled, smacking Kyle’s butt again. “Hulk, wait! Not yet!”

“Hendrix!” Ty yelled. “Save me a piece, dickhead!” My laughter increased ten-fold as I watched Ty pull a plastic encased fork out of his pocket and hold it up in the air before heading toward Hendrix’s truck. “I even have my own silverware.”

“Jesus Christ,” Kyle said between his own bouts of laughter as he carried me into the station and down the hall past Pop’s office.

Pop looked up as we passed. “Hey, Pop!”

He quirked a brow but said nothing.

I had no idea where Kyle was carrying me but was a tad bit surprised when we ended up in the dark bays. “Where are we going?” I asked as he continued to carry me across the silent space. For the third time, I brought my palm down on his firm tush. “Answer me, Hulk!”

  He remained silent.

I gasped when he walked to the back of one of the trucks and climbed the ladder to the top. My eyes bulged as the concrete covered ground became further and further away.

  “Kyle!’

“Hush, baby,” he said, reaching the top. I grunted as he dropped me to my butt atop the cool metal. “Scoot back.”

He nodded behind me, showing me where he wanted me.

Doing as he said, I used my feet and hands to push myself backward until I reached the middle of the truck. Then I stopped. “Here?”

He crawled toward me, and then over me, hovering his body above mine.

“You have one minute,” he said, dipping his face closer to mine. “ One minute to pull your dress up and your panties down. Exactly sixty-seconds to give me access to my pussy.”

  My mind blanked.

  “What?”

“Starting now,” he growled, not answering my question.

  “Here?”

  “59 and counting.”

Refusing to think about the fact that I was on top of a firetruck in the middle of a fire station, one where I knew almost every person who worked there, I pulled the skirt of my dress up over my belly, revealing the lacy white panties I wore. “I’ll do it in fifteen,” I fired back, a sassy smile on my face.

Maneuvering my body beneath his, I slipped my fingers into the sides of my panties, lifted my hips and pushed them down my thighs and over my calves. When they dangled around my ankles, I slipped one foot free, then the other.

Free of the offending lace, I slid my hands behind my knees and pulled them up, spreading myself wide open for him. “Did it under ten.”

  I smirked.

  Kyle wasted no time.

Grasping his shirt behind his collar, he tugged the material over his head, baring his hard chest and ripped abs to me. In an instant, my mouth watered.

  He smiled when I whimpered.

Going to his knees, he unbuckled his belt, popped open the button of his pants, and pushed the zipper down with lightning quick speed.

  His cock sprang free.

  Someone went commando, I see.

I reached for it, wrapping my hand around the thick base. Fisting my hand just like he’d taught me too, I pumped his length, moaning when beads of pre-come dripped from the tip, and landed on my bare mound.

“Kyle,” I whispered, “I want you.”

Eyes locked on what my hand was doing, he didn’t look up. “Tell me what you want, baby, and I’ll give it to you.”

Holding him in my hand, his hard cock throbbing in my grasp made me feel strong, empowered. It was new, something I’d never experienced before, but I was becoming addicted.

Spreading my legs wider, I slipped my free hand down to the secret space between my legs, grazing my soaked slit with my fingertips. My eyes rolled back at the slight sensation. “Kyle,” I moaned. “Fuck me… please.”

His head snapped up; his eyes locked on mine.

“You want me to fuck you or make love to you?”

I didn’t hesitate. “Fuck me,” I replied, taking a page from his bossy manual. “Now.”

He raked his tongue over his bottom lip, something he did often when lust was flowing rampant through his veins. Without uttering a single word, he lined his cock up with my entrance and slammed home.

  My back bowed.

  My neck arched.

  And I screamed. Loud.

Kyle’s hand clamped down on my mouth. “Bite my hand if you have to,” he said, pulling out and then sliding his big cock back deep inside me.

I did my best to nod as he gripped my hip with one hand and started a hard, deep rhythm that made my eyes roll back in my head. “Fuck, your pussy feels good,” he groaned, sliding the hand that was on my hip to the back of my thigh. Lifting me the slightest bit, he surged deep, hitting me at a different angle that sent me reeling.

My thighs tightened as my impending orgasm built.

  I whimpered as Kyle moaned.

Wrapping the leg he wasn’t holding around his waist I did my best to pull him closer. I wanted his chest pressed against mine when he tore my orgasm from me and emptied himself deep inside my pussy.

  Building, building, building…

My orgasm was right there, totally within reach, when the door that connected the bay to the stations interior hallway opened and someone stepped inside the bays. My eyes bulged as the sound of footsteps came closer.
<
br />   Not slowing his strokes, Kyle released my leg and laid atop me, chest to chest. Hovering his lips next to my ear, he whispered, “I don’t give a fuck who’s down there, I’m not letting up until your sweet little pussy rings every drop of come I have to offer from me.”

His words, combined with our actions, sent an unexpected thrill racing down my spine.

Nodding, I wrapped my arms around him, slipped my hands down the back of his loose pants and sunk my nails into his tight ass. “Fuck,” he cursed, moving faster, fucking me harder. “Come for me, Carissa.”

  Within seconds, I exploded.

My head thrashed back and forth; Kyle’s hand slipped from my mouth.

Not giving a dang who heard me, I dug my nails deeper, pressed my heels into the back of his legs and moaned as wave after wave crashed over me, drowning me in pleasure.

Kyle followed me over the cliff.

Shoving my knees back to my chest, he planted himself deep and jerked as his cock spasmed, bathing my insides in him. His heat mixed with mine, prolonging the shocks of ecstasy nipping at every nerve in my body.

  My eyes slid closed.

  “That was—” I started.

The fluorescents hanging above us flicked on, bathing us in bright lights.

“What the fuck are y’all doing?” Hendrix, of all people, asked. “You alright?”

Mortification set in and I covered my mouth with both hands as Kyle pulled himself from me and sat up, giving one of his best friends a clear view of his naked chest. “Man, get the hell out,” Kyle barked, his face twisted in annoyance. “You had your pie and I’m trying to enjoy mine.”

Despite the embarrassment consuming me, I laughed from behind my hand.

  Silence.

Then, “Oh what fuck!” Hendrix shouted. “On top of the truck, Kyle? Are you serious? I’m on wash duty this week, so I’ll have to clean that shit up.” He paused. “Seriously, on top of the goddamn truck? What’s the matter with you two? This isn’t Backdraft!”

Kyle smirked. “Says the man who got caught banging his wife against the shower wall.”

  Oh. My. God!

Maddie had sex with Hendrix against the wall of the shower?

  At the station?

“She was pregnant!” Hendrix yelled. “Newsflash, dipshit, pregnant woman want sex. A hell of a lot. At least Maddie did. Who was I to say no?”

  “You—”

For the second time in as many minutes, the door opened.

  Footsteps followed.

“Who are you yelling at?” Ty asked Hendrix.

  Lord, take me now!

“Look on top of the truck,” Hendrix replied.

More laughter spilled out of me as Kyle smiled from ear to ear and waved in Ty’s direction.

“You’ve gotta be shitting me,” he replied. “The trucks are sacred, Tuck. Have you lost—”

“Is that my pie you’re eating, you sneaky bastard?” Hendrix hollered, cutting Ty off.

  “Maybe.”

  “You thieving—”

Hendrix’s words were cut off when the door opened yet again.

“Where the hell is Kyle at?” Pop asked, sounding panicked.

Kyle’s spine snapped straight. “Up here, Cap.”

  Silence reigned once again.

Then, “I don’t have the time nor the patience to deal with whatever bullshit you just pulled in my station,” Pop said. “But you need to take Carissa and get over to Brantley and Clara’s now.”

Jerking the skirt of my dress down over my hips, I sat up. “What’s wrong?”

A whole lot of worry spread across Pop’s face. “EMS just picked Clara up. She started hemorrhaging, medics think it’s a possible abruption.”

  My heart stopped.

  It. Stopped.

“They need Carissa’s help to watch the kids. Bella saw the whole thing and is freaking out. Hope is over there, but Bella won’t let anyone touch her. Keeps crying for C.”

I didn’t think before I started to move.

Leaving my panties and flip flops behind, I crawled around Kyle, and descended the ladder. As soon as my bare feet hit the concrete floor, I ran, ignoring Kyle’s shouts for me to wait.

Tears streamed down my face as I burst through the door and into the night.

Knowing Kyle would catch me before I could start my car and back out, I ran to his truck, yanked open the unlocked door and climbed in. Then, surrounded by nothing but silence, I sent up a prayer.

Please, God, I prayed. Please let them be okay.

  THIRTY-EIGHT

  Kyle

Head in my hands, I sat on the middle of Brantley and Clara’s sofa, my gaze focused on the floor. The room was dark, mostly silent. The only sound to be heard was coming from the air conditioning unit outside.

Upstairs Carissa laid in bed with Bella, her arms wrapped around her tight.

From the moment we arrived hours earlier, Bella had latched onto my girl, refusing to let her go. Scared out of her mind and terrified that her mother and unborn sister would die, she’d cried herself to sleep after making herself sick more than once.

According to Evan, Bella had seen the blood coating Clara’s legs and nightgown as she was placed on the stretcher and loaded into the ambulance.

It was something she’d never forget.

Liam and Declan were both asleep in their rooms, neither having said a word since we got here. One look at Declan’s face and it was obvious he was terrified. Liam though? Kid was tough. I knew he had to be worried, but I couldn’t get a read on him. It was like he’d hardened himself to men he wasn’t close to.

  Men like me.

  I didn’t blame him though.

If I’d watched my mother get beaten by my biological father every day for years, I’d distrust most men too. I was just glad he had Brantley, the man who’d stepped up to be his father even when he didn’t have to be.

  “Will my mama be okay?”

I jerked my head up at the sound of Declan’s voice.

Quiet as hell, I hadn’t heard him come downstairs. “Hey, Buddy,” I said, smiling. “How long have you been awake?”

“Carissa woke me up.” My brows furrowed. “She was crying in the bathroom but she’s back asleep now.”

  Shit.

“Will my Mama be okay?” he asked, clutching a rainbow-colored teddy bear under his right arm. “What about Olivia?”

“Olivia?” I smiled. “Is that going to be your new little sister’s name?”

  Declan nodded.

“Beautiful name.” It was the truth.

“You didn’t answer my question,” he said, calling me out. “Is my Mama dead?”

His words were like a knife to the heart.

I wasn’t an emotional person, but hearing him ask such a thing cut me deep. I leaned forward, looking him in the eyes. “Nah, Buddy, your Mama is fine. Promise.”

It was a promise I hoped like hell I could keep.

  “Is Olivia dead?”

  Fuck, I hope not.

Shaking my head, I placed a hand on his shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze. “Everyone will be fine. Your Mama and baby sister are in the best hospital in Georgia. The doctors and nurses will take good care of them.”

  I sounded like an idiot.

Quite fitting considering I wasn’t great at comforting anyone.

Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I glanced at the time.

  5:24 am.

Unease mixed with trepidation spread through me. We should’ve heard something by now. Damn near everyone was at the hospital—Hendrix and Maddie included—so I didn’t know why the fuck they hadn’t bothered to call us.

“Kyle,” Declan said, calling me by my name for the first time.

  “Yeah?”

“If I tell you something do you promise not to get mad?”

Again, my brows furrowed; confusion set in. “I won’t get mad,” I assured him. “Not at you.”

His pulled his eyes from mine, dropping his gaze to th
e ground. “I had an accident.”

I glanced at the front of his Spider-Man pajama’s, taking notice of the dark stains on the front of his pants for the first time. How the hell I hadn’t noticed that before, I didn’t know.

“That’s not a problem, Buddy,” I said, honestly. “It happens.” Standing, I nodded toward the stairs. “Show me where your bedroom is, and we’ll get you fixed right up.”

Declan walked to the stairs, the teddy still clutched under his arm.

I followed behind him as he led me to the second-story and then to end of the hall where his bedroom was. Veering right into his room, I went straight to his bed and removed the sheets and comforter. “Do you have another pair of pajama’s to put on?”

  He nodded but said nothing.

“Why don’t you grab them and go get washed off. I’ll have your bed fixed by the time you get back.”

  Again, he nodded.

Turning, he crossed the room and pulled open a dresser drawer. After rummaging through it for a minute, he pulled out clothing identical to the ones he already wore. I couldn’t help but chuckle. “You like Spider-Man, yeah?”

His face lit up at my question. “Yeah, he’s the coolest. My brother likes Batman, but he’s an idiot, so that’s no surprise.”

That got a real genuine laugh from me as I bent down and rolled the soiled bedding into a ball. “I don’t have a brother, but my sister was obsessed with Finding Nemo. Watched it every day.”

Declan smiled. “My sister watches that too. Well, sort of. She watches Dory mostly.”

Dory had been Lily’s favorite character.

The knife in my heart twisted as the memory assaulted me.

“I’m going to go change,” Declan said, pulling me from my thoughts. “Will you be here when I get back?”

I nodded. “Soon as I run these down to the laundry room, I’ll be back to put fresh sheets on your bed.”

“K.” Declan turned and stepped into what I assumed was his bathroom, shutting the door behind him.

Picking up the bedding, I jogged down the hall, descended the stairs, and hustled past the kitchen and into the laundry room. Once there, I loaded the dirty laundry into the fancy ass front loader that had more buttons than I had brain cells, added the detergent, and hit the ON button.
