“Let’s go, please,” Destiny’s voice cracked as she spoke and Noah turned back to her.

“Are you okay? Did he hurt you.”

“I want to get away from here.”

Noah nodded and walked her to the car. He put her in the passenger’s seat and walked over to his side. He got in, reached over and buckled her in. He touched her curl before starting the car and driving away. The entire drive, Noah couldn’t get the look of fear in Destiny’s eyes as she ran into him.

Her stepfather was dead for hurting his girl.

  CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

  DESTINY

After school, Destiny had decided to go to the café in case Noah decided to go there in search of her. She had arrived at the café and Cathy was surprised to see her. Not wanting to say what was actually up, Destiny had said she just wanted to hang around and do her schoolwork before heading home. What Destiny didn’t know was there was still an imprint of Ben’s hand on her face. No matter how much Destiny said it was nothing, Cathy wasn’t having it. She promised to pay a visit to Havana Academy the next day and make them realize that Destiny wasn’t just human, she was student and they ought to treat and protect her like one. Destiny had begged more but Cathy had told her it was alright, she wasn’t alone anymore.

Then Cathy had asked where Noah was when all this was going on and Destiny had no choice but to say the entire story. She told her about Megan, what she had said. About Damian and Ben who had hit her. And Noah who had leapt to her defense and Natalie who had dragged Noah away. Cathy listened, not judging even when she said she might have ruined everything with Noah.

Cathy hugged her and assured her that Noah cared too much about her to let this come between them and Destiny believed her. Cathy let Destiny stay the entire day at the café, bringing her cups of water or coffee while she read. Destiny smiled in appreciation each time, and every time someone came into the café, she looked up and sighed when it wasn’t Noah. She missed him.

It was evening and still no sign of Noah. Destiny decided to head home. She said her goodbye to Cathy who offered her a tight hug before letting her home. Destiny listened to music from her iPod as she headed home. Once she got to her neighborhood, she looked down and walked straight home, not greeting or talking to anyone.

As her building came into view, Destiny felt more down than she did on the walk home. Sighing, she walked into the building and hurried up the stairs. Using the stairs ensured she didn’t run into anyone in the building. Before Destiny walked into their apartment, she took a deep breath but that didn’t prepare her for what was going on inside.

Her mother was sitting on Ronnie’s lap shirtless. She wasn’t even wearing a bra and Ronnie was also shirtless. Her mother spared her a glance and returned to kissing Ronnie. Destiny froze in the spot, unable to stop looking at her mother grinding on Ronnie. The trance cleared when she noticed Ronnie looking at her. She shook her head and hurried into her room, making sure she shut the door behind her. Taking her bath was out of the question because she didn’t want to run into them again. Hell, she couldn’t unsee it and for some strange reason, she thought of Noah. Destiny shook her head as her mother’s moans filled the room. She didn’t know who to blame, herself for coming home early or her mother for refusing to acknowledge she had a teenage daughter.

Destiny groaned and pressed her palms to her ears. Her mother was a real character. It took a while before their moans and screams stopped and then they were replaced by giggles. Destiny rolled her eyes and opened her books, trying to figure out what to study, but her thoughts kept going back to Noah. Destiny found herself wondering what he was up to and if he was fine. Now more than ever, she wanted a cell phone instead of her iPod.

She shook herself and willed herself to concentrate on the book before her. It was useless, and she was exhausted from the events that happened in the day. Promising herself she’d study twice as hard tomorrow, Destiny changed her clothes and laid on her bed. It didn’t take long for her to fall asleep.

Destiny woke up to someone feeling her up. Scared, she stood up and backed away. Ronnie stood above her wearing nothing but his shorts. Destiny felt her spine run cold with fear. Ronnie grinned down at her.

“It’s time princess. I need you and I promise you’ll feel really good. You heard your mom right? I can do that for you.”

Destiny backed further away. She felt trapped. She would never have guessed that Ronnie would be here right now. Today had to be the worst day of her life. Destiny couldn’t get past him even if she wanted to, but it was worth the try. She scrambled up and tried to run past him, but he grabbed her waist and threw her back to the bed.

  “MAMA.’

Ronnie followed after her and slammed his lips on hers in a bid to silence her, tears pricked at Destiny’s eyes and she struggled to free herself. In all her struggle, she kept calling her mother but no response came. The more she struggled, she realized that Ronnie was trying to pry her legs open. His hand fondled her breasts, while the other struggled to hold her hands. He tried to rip her shirt open but only succeeded in tearing it a bit. With all her might, Destiny kneed him in the balls and as he groaned and fell over, she pushed him off her and hurried out.

She found her mother passed out in the sitting room and Destiny felt her heart break. Her mother wasn’t even awake. She hurried out of the house and ran down the stairs. She heard Ronnie behind her and Destiny decided she’d rather die than let him get to her. She bumped into someone as she hurried out of the building. As she went to apologize, she realized it was Noah and he was looking at her with an unreadable expression.

Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around him and sobbed into his chest. Noah hugged her back and his grip tightened. Destiny didn’t need to tell him anything because, Ronnie was standing right behind her.

Noah pulled away. “Get in the car.”

Destiny obeyed. The second she closed the door, she saw Ronnie charging towards her and Noah had grabbed him by the neck and slammed him to the ground. Destiny marveled at his strength. Noah went down on Ronnie and started to punch him. His face soon turned bloody and Destiny struggled out the car. As much as she wanted Ronnie hurt, she didn’t want it to be this easy. She begged Noah to get off him and he delivered one more punch and stood up. He led her back to the car and got in.

“I’m going to kill him,” Noah muttered under his breath and Destiny released a shaky breath.

The ride to wherever Noah was taking her was silent. He pulled into an area with big houses and Destiny momentarily forgot her pain as she stared at the houses. Noah drove into a compound and turned until he got into the back of the house. He got down and went around to open the door for Destiny. He helped her down and Destiny felt herself shivering. The idea that her mother didn’t come to her aid bugged her and brought tears to her eyes.

Noah led her into the room and sat her on the bed. “This is like a second room for me. But I barely come here, no one does.”

“She did nothing. While Ronnie tried to… she slept through it all. All my life, she’d done nothing aside putting a roof over my head. I cater for myself and I try to stay out her way and just today, I need her to be a mom for once. To save me and she was sleeping. I tried my hardest so on one would know she’s a drug addict. She has all these jobs, but not a dime goes to my upkeep. She’s never kissed me good night, all she is, has, she has given to Ronnie, and I’m just something that is a nagging constant in her life. Destiny, get a job. Destiny, groceries. Destiny this, Destiny that. All I needed was her, just this one night, and she was sleeping.”

Noah said nothing and Destiny appreciated it. Noah sat on the bed and pulled her to him, Destiny let him. She didn’t have any strength left in her. She cried into his chest and Noah clung onto her.

“If Ronnie goes, if we make him disappear, she’ll be fine. You’ll help me, right?”

“I’ll do anything to make you happy,” Noah said and kissed her forehead.

  T
hey stayed like that for a while until Noah said he had to go get something and tell his family she was here. But she didn’t have to meet them. Destiny nodded in understanding and walked away.

Destiny looked around the room. She loved the decor but her mind kept wandering back to the events that had transpired. Ronnie was going to lay his hands on her but Noah had been there. She was sure Noah didn’t know her house; he knew her neighborhood, but not her house. When Noah returned, he was going to answer that for her.

She released a sigh and rubbed her arms because she felt really cold and dirty. Ronnie had touched her, he had squeezed her breasts and tried to kiss her. Destiny couldn’t understand why her mother didn’t come to her aid. The tears started to blur her vision and she couldn’t stop the sobs that broke from her throat.

She looked around the room and her eyes zeroed in on a few drops of red that came from the door and stopped in front of the fridge. Confused, Destiny went to the fridge and opened it. It was empty, save for an apple, a bottle of water and two bananas. Destiny shook her head and went to close the door but stopped when she saw a few drops of blood in the fridge. She’d have dismissed it as nothing, had part of a drop had not been hidden from sight. She looked round the fridge, trying to open it up. The back of the fridge opened and Destiny froze at what she saw. It was several bottles filled with—Destiny brought a bottle out and opened it—Blood and raw meat.

She frowned. Why would Noah want to hide a jar of blood filled with meat? She looked around the room and the paintings became clearer to her. They were wolves painting and Destiny felt her breathing slowed. She tried to dismiss the thought, but Noah’s eyes turning black still glowed in her mind. His speed.

Destiny shook her head. There was a logical explanation, a research probably. She almost laughed. She was intelligent for crying out loud and every intelligent person knew that werewolves didn’t exist.

The door opened and Destiny spun around to find Noah staring down at her with parted lips. She looked down at the jars and back up at him. There was something about his stance that made her shake her head. She stood up and backed away from him.

  “You’re not–”

Noah said nothing, he just swallowed hard.

“It’s for research, right? Some relative needs somewhere to store his collection, right? You’re really not—”

Noah stared at her long and hard. “If I were, what changes?”

Destiny frowned. Noah was a joker, she just confirmed it. People who were werewolves didn’t go about telling people they were werewolves; they just went about being it until someone caught them and forced the confession out of them. Destiny clenched her jaw. She had found something and Noah didn’t tell her, she pulled one on him, and he wasn’t denying it. If Noah was a wolf… Destiny almost laughed. It was impossible.

  “Show me.”

  “What?”

“Transform, change, whatever. Just show me.”

Noah stared at her for the longest time and Destiny started to squirm. He turned and locked the door before stepping forward to drop the clothes he had gotten her on the bed. Destiny watched him return before the door, her heart was hammering loudly.

“I love you, with everything I am. Human or not, I really do care about you. I want to spend my whole life with you and that won’t change. But before you decide on forever with me, you should know.”

Destiny shifted uncomfortably as Noah stared at nothing but her. She avoided looking at him and willed herself not to think about his confession. He had just said he loved her, but she wasn’t sure how to respond.

Noah smiled and drew a long breath. He shut his eyes and Destiny watched him closely, she half expected him to open his eyes and laugh but he didn’t. Instead, something belonging to a fantasy happened and Destiny stepped back as Noah transformed. She watched as his clothes ripped, his body became hairy and his fingers turned to paws. Before her was the exact wolf she saw before she fainted. Destiny didn’t find it in her to scream, she just stared at him and her heart thrashed wildly.

Noah returned to his human form and he was naked. Destiny didn’t turn away and Noah stared at her before moving to the wardrobe and putting on some clothes. Destiny felt lightheaded from the event and she sat on the bed, willing her brain to work. To think but it couldn’t figure out how.

  “Destiny,” Noah whispered.

“You took me home. When I saw you at the cafe and fainted, you took me home. You saw where I lived, you saw how messed up I am and you still stayed, why?”

“Because you’re my mate. We don’t run from our mates, we defend them.”

Destiny shook her head. “This is crazy. You’re not human. You’re different, you’re a monster.”

Destiny felt Noah freeze beside her.

“I’m a monster?” He laughed but the humor was absent. “I came and defended you from people who have pushed you around all your life. I stood up to Damian and his friends, I beat up your stepfather, I’ve loved you since I saw you. I haven’t harmed you in any way, and I’m a monster?”

  “Noah—”

“How can you say that about me?” The hurt in his eyes was visible. “I’ve done everything for you. But you’re not wrong. I’m not all human, so stone the one who’s been there when no one else has.”

  “I’m going to go.”

Noah scoffed. “You treat Damian nicer than you treat me.”

Destiny said nothing, she just opened the door and stepped out. She jumped when something in the room broke. Destiny stood there for the longest time staring at the night sky. She had nowhere to go and if she thought about it, Noah was nicer to her more than anyone has ever been. He made her feel like she was worth it. Hell, he almost beat up Damian for her. And not even her mother had the same fierce love Noah had for her. Destiny stood there staring at the sky and more things broke in the room. She shut her eyes as she remembered calling him a monster. Tears streamed down her face. He wasn’t a monster; he was everything to her and Destiny realized it that moment that she loves him.

She pushed open the door to find that Noah had broken the jars filled with the blood on the wall. When she looked at him, he had tears streaming down his face.

“Destiny?” Noah slowly stood up from the floor and walked to her. Before he could speak again, Destiny kissed him like her life depended on it. Noah held her and pulled her close to him. Destiny pressed herself against him, and bit on his lower lips. It didn’t take time for their tongues to start dancing and Noah walked slowly back, taking Destiny with him. He dropped on the bad and Destiny followed him. She kissed him more fervently and they broke for air.

  “You’re not a monster.”

Noah’s response was to kiss her back and Destiny grinded herself on him, causing him to groan. She moaned in his mouth and bit his lower lip. Noah stopped and pulled away. He stared in her eyes. Destiny was breathing heavily, they both were.

“If we don’t stop now, I can’t guarantee any self-control.”

“I don’t need your self-control,” Destiny said and kissed him back.

Noah’s self-control was truly out the window when he reached up her shirt and skimmed his finger beneath her breasts. Destiny found a new type of pleasure shoot through her.

  “Do you want to?”

Destiny nodded and Noah reversed their position so she was lying underneath him. He reached for the nightstand next to the bed and pulled out a condom. All Destiny could think about was her and Noah, and nothing more.

  CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

  NOAH

When Noah woke up and Destiny was still sound asleep. He watched the rising and falling of her chest, his heart hammering. Yesterday had been unbelievable. The room still had the aftermath of their argument, his anger and hurt and finally their love. That was more important than any emotion he’d ever felt.

He looked down at Destiny’s sleeping figure and a smile tugged at his lips. She looked peaceful and free of stress. If Noah could, he’d freeze this moment and live it every day. H
e finally understood how his father felt every time he looks at his mother. It still bothered him that Destiny had called him a monster, and for the few minutes she had left, Noah had regretted who he was. He hated himself for being a wolf because the girl he loved saw him as something worse.

Destiny moved and he looked down at her. He caught a glimpse of a green stone hanging from her neck. Noah frowned and looked at it. It was a green emerald and Destiny’s hand held it lightly. So this is what she fiddles with every time? He went to touch it but Destiny shifted again, so he let it be.

He let the events of last night pour over him again. When he had planned to go see Destiny, he had intended to be invited in, gushed over–not right away though, Destiny would be incredibly pissed to see him and then he’d kiss her and tell her how lucky he was to have her. He did not, not once, expect Destiny to come running out of the building barefooted and with ripped clothes. Neither did he expect her to be crying or running away from her stepfather. The idea that her stepfather tried to touch her drove him mad.

Noah knew he was going to either kill the man or do some serious damage to him. It was going to take a long while before he recovered from the blows Noah had delivered to him. He wasn’t sure if Destiny knew, but her stepfather could very much be in coma right now. Noah had been too angry to think, let alone control his punches. Ronnie had gotten the heat of Noah’s rage and anger, and very few people had been at the receiving end and had something to say. Ronnie had been covered in blood when Noah had driven Destiny away and he didn’t stir.
