Royal Court

The navy blue garter mantle was then brought over, and with the help of Theo and Lady Musgrave, George draped it over Quincy’s shoulders.
Finally the long, gold collar was brought over on a cushion. George lifted the thick chain and laid it over Quincy’s shoulders. George whispered, “Nearly done, Captain.”
George shook hands with Quincy and smiled. “My greatest thanks for your bravery, Quincy. Now let’s go and let the nation say thank you.”
Quincy let out a breath, smiled, and then bowed. “Thank you, ma’am.”
***
After a service of thanksgiving, the royal family and Quincy descended the steps of St. George’s chapel. They were greeted by their friends, and Cammy shook her hand and pulled her into a brief hug.
“Congratulations, Garter Knight.”
“Thank you. Just a few weeks and you’ll be back here yourself for your wedding,” Quincy said smiling.
Cammy turned and winked at Lali. “Can’t wait.”
Neither could Quincy, because just a few months after Cammy and Lali’s wedding, she and Holly would be getting married, and it couldn’t come quick enough for her.
Quincy and Holly were led by the Queen and her consort down into the carriages. Quincy and Holly were given the honour of riding with Queen Georgina and Queen Beatrice.
The crowds were cheering, waving flags, and holding up signs of thanks.
Holly was so proud of Quincy. She was the last person who would ask for this, and that was what made Captain Quincy special, and a true hero. The carriage set off along the route, and Holly took Quincy’s hand.
“Remember to smile, baby,” Holly said.
“And wave,” Bea added.
Holly gave her a nudge and she started to wave.
“This is all for you, Quincy,” George said.
Quincy squeezed Holly’s hand. “It’s all a bit overwhelming, but at least I’ll have something interesting to talk to people about when I meet them. I think this is the most exciting thing about me.”
“Exciting is overrated.” Holly looked over at her friend Bea. “A wise woman once told me, that sometimes the most quiet, unassuming people are the ones who will love you the fiercest.” Quincy kissed her and the crowd cheered. “I love you, Stompy.”
“And I love you.”
