“Where is everyone?” I hear Leonard yell.

“Mom and Dad are crying!” Aiden yells, and I close my eyes. “And now Nonna and Grandma are crying.”

“What?” I hear shrieked out, and then the men run up the stairs like a stampede.

“What happened?” My father is the first to ask, and my mother sobs out and turns to him, and he takes her in his arms.

“Is she sick?” Leonard asks, and then he puts his hand on his forehead. “Oh my God, is it the C word?”

“I think I’m going to be sick,” Maryse says. “I think I’m going to faint.” She now turns around and puts her hand to her neck. “Leonard, I don’t feel okay.”

“I’m fine!” Eli yells. “There is nothing wrong with Luca or with me,” she says, and all four sets of eyes look at us.

“Holy shit!” my father now shrieks and then looks at Aiden. “Sorry, I meant, holy bananas. Are you getting married?” he says, and now he points at the ring on Eli’s hand, and we smile.

“They are getting married,” Maryse says now, sobbing out. “Leonard, they are getting married.”

“And that isn’t all,” Eli says and then looks at me, and I just nod at her. “We are having a baby.”

“I’m going to be a big brother!” Aiden shouts, putting his hands in the air.

  “A baby?” my mother repeats.

“Actually,” Eli says. “They think it’s twins.” I lean and kiss her, ignoring the eruptions from our parents.

  Epilogue

  Seven months later

  Luca

“This party is insane,” Nick says from beside me as we sit on the round table in the backyard of Leonard’s house. If I thought the welcome back party was over the top, it’s nothing compared to the baby shower that he is throwing for us.

“There is a pasta station and a sushi station,” Tom says, sitting down. He flew in for this occasion and to also meet Aiden.

“Your father-in-law does not fuck around when it comes to parties,” Jason says, sitting down in one of the empty chairs. I look around the backyard that has close to two hundred people walking around and smile when I see Eli as she talks to a guest. Her left hand rests on her belly, and the rings sparkle in the sun. We got married one week after we got engaged with Aiden as my best man. The three of us went to the courthouse and just got it done. To say that our parents were pissed is an understatement of the year. But I couldn't care less; the only thing that mattered was her being a DiMarco.

“This has to be the best baby shower I’ve ever been to.” Mona comes over and sits down. “There aren’t even games. High-five for that,” she says, kissing Nick on the lips and then sitting down next to him.

“Dad,” Aiden yells, “I’m going to ride the pony!” And runs off with my father following him. My mother is sitting at the table with her sister laughing up a storm.

“Hey, guys!” I hear Eli say when she gets to my side. My hand goes around her waist, and I bring her closer to me, kissing her belly. We found out that we are having twin girls. We had a huge gender reveal party at our house, and our mothers cheered the loudest. Aiden was not amused that he was getting girls, because according to him, girls are gross. “Hi, my love,” she says to me and runs her hand through my hair.

“Eli, you look amazing,” Jason says. “I can’t believe you are having twins.”

“I can’t believe he is point zero three people in the world to beat the birth control pill,” Nick says, shaking his head.

“What about the two percent to beat the condom?” Jason asks while he chews.

“I’m going to say I have super sperm,” I say, getting up and giving Eli my chair and then walking to the next table for an empty chair.

“You guys are like rabbits,” Nick says. “You look at her, and she gets knocked up.”

“Don’t be jealous.” I wink at him, and Mona laughs and kisses him.

“Who would have thought that a weekend cruise would bring us full circle,” Jason says, leaning back. “Eli, I have to say thank God he found you again. He was one step from becoming a priest.”

“You lie!” Nick shouts. “He was a priest.”

I grab Eli’s hand and bring it to my mouth. “When you know, you know.”

“I think my balls just shriveled and went up,” Nick says, and Mona slaps his arm.

“You could use some points on how to say romantic things.”

“I say romantic things all the time,” Nick tells her.

“‘Come to daddy’ and ‘say hello to my little friend’ are not romantic.”

“It’s a big friend,” Nick huffs. “Say hello to my big friend.” He looks around and then at Eli. “I have a big dick.”

“Oh, God,” Jason and Tom both moan.

“He tried to get us to have a measuring contest,” Tom says, clapping his hands together and laughing.

“They all lost,” Nick says, shrugging

“We didn’t lose; you were just the only one who did it,” Jason says.

“And my dick scared them all.” He then looks at Mona. “Tell her how big it is.”

“Go away,” she says while she eats a piece of cake. And we all laugh as we spend the afternoon together, and I couldn’t be happier.

The sun starts to set, and the tables are being loaded up into the truck, and I sit on a white chair with Eli next to me and Aiden on my lap. “We are going to need to get a moving van for all those gifts.” I point at the overwhelming mountain of gifts people brought.

“Who knew two of everything would equal that?” Eli says, and she winces just a bit.

“Are you okay?” I ask her, and she shrugs. “I’ve been having back pain all day. I think I overdid it with standing on my feet.” I grab my phone and google back pain.

“You could be having contractions,” I tell her, and she glares at me. “Um, Google knows everything.”

“Does Google know I’m going to shove my foot up your ass?” she says and then puts her hand on her belly, rubbing it. She has done this pregnancy like a fucking champ, and after she got over the morning sickness, she felt amazing. The doctors want the twins to stay in as long as possible, but I mean they are already over six pounds each. “The babies agree with me.” I lean over and kiss her, and right before my lips touch her, a pail of water falls on my feet.

“What the hell was that?” I ask her.

“I think that would be my water,” she says, and she looks at me. Her eyes go wide, and I can see some fear in her eyes.

“Oh my God.” My hands fly to my head. “Mom, Dad!” I shout, and all four heads turn to me. “Her water broke.” I start to panic and turn to walk away, but then I turn back.

“Her water broke. Are you in pain?” I put my hand on her stomach. “Someone call an ambulance. Should I pick you up?” I ask her, but then another gush of water comes out, completely soaking my feet, and I don’t even think about where that water came from.

“Oh my God. Siri,” I start to ask the phone, and she snatches it out of my hand and throws it to the ground, the sound of my screen shattering. “Was that necessary?” I ask her, and she just glares at me. Our parents are now running toward us.

“I’m going to get a blanket,” Maryse says and then runs into the house.

“We need to get her to the car,” my mother says and holds her hands. “Come on, dear, let’s get you to the car.”

“Where is Aiden?” Eli asks, and I look at her.

“He is having a sleepover at Uncle Nick’s place,” I remind her. “You went into detail about the pole.”

“Oh my God,” she says as she waddles to the car, holding her stomach.

Maryse comes running out of the house with the blanket. “Put this on the seat so it doesn’t get wet.”

“I think all the water is on my feet,” I tell her, but the minute Eli stops walking, more water gushes out of her. “Is that normal?” I ask, looking around. “Someone get me a phone.”

“If he googles anything, I’m going to …
She stops talking to groan and holds her stomach. “That was a big one.”

We rush her to the hospital and get out of the car and run in to get a wheelchair. She gets out of the car, and now she’s just drenched. I wheel her in as fast as I can, and when we get to the maternity floor, they are waiting for us. They wheel us into the operating room and get her ready. I change into scrubs, and when I finally see her, she’s lying in the middle of the room on the table with her arms to the side. A huge sheet blocks her from seeing her belly.

“Hey,” I say, sitting next to her head. She turns to me, and she is crying. “Why the tears?” I ask her, rubbing her head.

“If anything happens to me,” she starts to say, and I lean in and kiss her.

“Nothing is going to happen to you,” I tell her.

“Last time I did this, I was all by myself,” she says. “And I remember thinking I would give anything to have you with me.” I lean my forehead to hers. “Thank you.” I look at her. “For always being with me in my heart.”

“Okay, people, let’s get some babies out.” The doctor comes into the room, and suddenly, everyone gets busy. “I’m going to cut you now. You tell me if you feel anything.” I look at Eli. “How are you doing down there?”

“I’m good. A little pressure,” she says, and I don’t leave her side.

“Okay, here we go,” the doctor says, and moments later, we hear a faint little cry. “We have baby girl A,” he says, and I look over as the nurse carries the baby to weigh and measure her and wrap her in a blanket. “And we have baby girl B,” he says, and then I see my other daughter being carried.

The nurse comes over with baby girl A. “Here is your baby,” she says, handing me my daughter.

“Oh my God,” I say, turning her and putting her next to Eli’s face. Tears are streaming down both of our faces. “She’s so beautiful,” I say, and Eli whispers something to her as she cries and kisses her.

“We have baby girl B,” the other nurse says, and I look down, not sure how to hold the second baby. The nurse smiles and then leans the baby on the other side of Eli, and she kisses them both.

They wheel her into recovery, and I go out to see our parents. My mother is sitting next to Maryse as they hold hands, and they both have tears on their face. My father is pacing one side of the room while Leonard paces the other side. My mother is the first one to see me. “We have daughters,” I say, and my mother runs to me and then Maryse follows. Our fathers nod and shake each other’s hands.

  “How is Eli?” Maryse asks.

“In recovery and doing amazing,” I say. “She’s amazing.” I then motion with my head, and they follow me into the room where the nurses wait by the bassinets. “Meet my girls,” I say with so much pride in my voice.

Who would have thought that a simple hookup with a girl on a booze cruise could lead to me having the most beautiful life?
