Fearless

I had to tell them about the message from Langsley. Keeping it secret was eating me up and affecting my judgement. I see that now. Le Garre’s decision to lock me up in here is so they have the time to discuss it.
That’ll be what they’re discussing, right now.
I think about each of them. Arkov, who we had to question after Drake’s murder. Johansson, who’d been desperately seeking my approval only to find herself by disobeying my orders. Le Garre, the major, with more experience, rank and expertise than me, but who remains under my command. Travers, my number two, who doesn’t want to be a number one, and Sam, my best friend out here. I can still see how he looked at me – that little nod.
And Chiu, the traitor who came back. There must have been a reason for that, a reason she regretted her choices from before.
So many others are dead. Am I to blame? No. Do I blame myself?
Yes.
They were my crew. These survivors are my crew. Am I still their captain?
We’re broken people on a broken ship. All I can hope is that with time, we can repair the latter and through doing so heal ourselves.
