"It is a voice modulation, also with your tongue being the way it is, you will have a harder time saying some words. Fortunately for you, all of your spells and abilities will not require words or gestures to activate.

  Very True.

"What? You spent one million platinum pieces, how?"

"On your mom, she is a very refined date."

  "My what?!"

"Look she is the lady who gave birth to you, assuming you weren't born in a jar that is? Tell you what, calm down, go fuck your sister or whatever you do for fun. Clearly you like grave robbing so maybe necrophilia? Anyway I have stuff to do." Derick said, while issuing the commands Permanently block all messages from Taftinator and Gyrospoon7. With that, Derick mentally disengaged the chat window then began moving quickly toward the nearest area that appeared to be a safe spot. As he left, Derick knew the kind of person that Taftinator and his goon Gyrospoon7 were; he had seen them all before. They were the kind that were drunk on their own view of their own self-worth, the ones who had money and thought that afforded them. With that, Derick also knew that I will have to power up quickly, if I am to be one of the final million who are reborn.

"OhmN, just a reminder, you will have to buy off the flaws associated with your Undead status, before you can be allowed to enter, let alone view the Resurrection Board."

That is the board that determines if this contest were to end today who would be resurrected?

"Affirmative, it will take a total of five respawns to remove all the flaws associated with the Undead status. Once those are erased, you will automatically be entered into the list at the last spot at which time only future actions will be rewarded."

Fuck, well how do I get more lives?

"Killing other travelers is by far and away the easiest way. Tally 20 traveler deaths and you will rewarded with 1 respawn. Additionally, some higher level quests can offer additional respawns upon completion, meaning that the quest itself would likely have cost you the respawn being offered."

So killing other travelers it is, so at 20 lives per respawn and needing a minimum of 5 respawns to get on the Resurrection Board, I will only need 97 more traveler deaths to my name. I guess it is time to get started.

With that Derick began maneuvering around the graveyard mercilessly killing any player, especially those that took the Undead merit, which signified that they were on their last respawn. Derick walked around at a crouch aimlessly, just waiting to find random targets. After a while he began to notice the tell-tale signs of a respawn, the way that energy would cause a slight chill to walk its way down Derick's neck. The first respawn that Derick noticed almost appeared right on top of him, quickly Derick jumped backward to the ground, not knowing what would happen if two bodies were in the same place at the same time. Would there be an explosion? Would we just be separated? Joined at a molecular level like Siamese twins?

"Oh there would definitely be an explosion. You would take damage at a rate of 100 damage per square inch that was joined with the other entity. An explosion of blood, gore and shrapnel would be eminent. Likewise any items or armor caught in the merging would be destroyed at a rate of 300 damage per square inch. Quite exciting if you ever get the chance to see two flesh corpses explode in such a way it will surely make your day."

Good to know. With the cheery image of my just missed bodily explosion I lay crumpled in a bone heap on the floor for a second. The respawned person, a Wood Elf by the handle EliteArchzer1041, walked past me and my crumpled body, seemingly oblivious to the world around him. Derick smiled as he tried something, without moving, gesturing, or speaking his intention he tried a new tactic. He mentally targeted EliteArchzer1041 with his mind, then threw him toward the ceiling, making sure to spin him slightly in the air to avoid any random arrows, weapons, or debris being thrown his way. Then at the last second he tried spinning the Wood Elf around so that his back was facing the floor.

A loud howling cry of fear and moans of "Oh God no, no, no!" before the Wood Elf finally found his way to the stone spikes of death that littered the cave ceiling. He spun the Wood Elf further and further up the giant Stalactite, only letting the Wood Elf go once a glowing flashing message appeared minimized in his periphery.

OhmN has killed EliteArchzer1041, Spell Power increased. +1 for first Wood Elf Player kill, + 1 for Player kill, +1 for final player death. Three unspent Spell Power Points.

Experience gained. Experience deferred until entering the actual servers.

Derick took the three points then looking over his available powers decided to put all three points into his Psychic-Vampirism power, knowing that getting more powers now would only make him that much more powerful in the future. The three added points and his percentage increases pushed his total to a 30% chance to steal powers from slain individuals. A faint edge of energy caught Derick's attention, as he could swear that something was telling him to stay still until he figured out where the danger was coming from. What is it? Derick thought to himself, it almost caused him to burst out in a scream when HAIL answered in his mind.

"Check your Psychic-Viewing tab, it should appear as a radar with unhidden individuals in red, while hidden individuals will appear as blue dots." HAIL replied, it was then that Derick realized he was doing this all wrong. He was hunting for people using his eyes, when his talents would be worth so much more in the future. On his radar he saw two distinct targets moving slowly toward his location. They were coming from the area that would have been his back side, though he slowly let his bony head roll silently toward the direction from which the two new individuals were approaching. Once they got within 30 yards the two began to separate in what Derick could only assume was a flanking maneuver, maybe a pincer maneuver if they both hit from different sides at the same time? Before Derick had too much time to go down his own mental tangent he targeted both individuals mentally spun them around, then flung them up toward the ceiling and toward the spikes of death that extended above them.

  Dual Casting Increased to 5.

This time Derick waited until his radar assured him there weren't any more potential enemies that surrounded him. Finally he acknowledged the pop-ups that he had been avoiding.

OhmN has killed Taftinator, Spell Power increased. + 1 for Player kill. One unspent Spell Power Point.

OhmN has killed Gyrospoon7 Spell Power increased. +1 for Player kill. Two unspent Spell Power Points

Experience gained. Experience deferred until entering the actual servers.

Once Derick saw the final two names he was floored by their speed at finding him. It has only been an hour or two tops since our first encounter. Looking at the world clock Derick realized that his assessment was correct, it had been under an hour.

"You are correct on both counts, OhmN."

HAIL's words pulled Derick out of the shock of what was happening. They found me in less than an hour? How is that possible?

"First, the pincer movement is a method of splitting forces and attacking an enemy from both flanks at the same time. Second, there were exactly 37 minutes and 42 seconds between each contact. Third, you have only moved a total of 435 yards away from your start point, even using an ever widening circle would yield results in ten minutes, assuming the two were trying to keep somewhat hidden in their approach. With that, might I suggest looting the corpses before those two respawn? They seem to be on an escalated respawn rate."

HAIL didn't need to tell Derick twice, as Derick made a beeline toward the two fallen opponents. He ran toward Taftinator's body first, remembering to apply the two spell power points to his Psychic-Vampirism talent first, pushing his overall talent to 13, meaning he had a 31% chance of getting a new talent or ability from either of the two bodies at his feet.

Hesitantly he reached down and touched the body of Taftinator. A slight sigh left his lips as no additional pop-ups were minimized after touching the corpse. Instead he found a folded up note th
at had their name written in purple, no money, no potions, nothing of importance. Instead what Derick did was quickly take everything off the body and throw it onto the ground next to his dead fleshy corpse. With a second thought, Derick picked up the note and placed it back on the now empty corpse of Taftinator.

Derick then went over to the body of Gyrospoon7. He reached down to touch the corpse and once again sighed when he didn't see a pulsing blue message awaited him. After seeing that Gyrospoon7's loot was much the same as Taftinator's Derick did the same thing, stripping the body clean of every item and throwing it onto the ground. Derick made sure to check for the essentials money, potions, or books of any type but the second set of gear was not as impressive as the first. With that, Derick went to the third body. Again everything transferred to his inventory upon clicking.

Once again no additional pop-up menus appeared from this body. Would a second power have its own pop-up, or would it just be added to the initial one? Derick thought to himself as he sprinted away from the three bodies and their piles of loot that would dissolve into the ground within the next five minutes if someone didn't pick them up. Would the loot dissolve? He knew it would in other games, but this game world seemed to be vastly different in many ways to the games he was used to experiencing.

"First, there would be a second pop-up for the second power acquired. Secondly the items would not dissolve, though they would take a degrading factor if left to the elements in an open environment such as this. They would degrade at a rate of one durability point per day left unattended."

Hmm. Derick thought to himself, thank you.

  "It is my pleasure."

Derick had heard that automatic response before, but could not remember where it came from. Derick retreated to the shadows, before seeing a corpse walk up to the piles of loot that Derick had discarded. A loud "WHOOP!" was exclaimed, then the corpse looked around quickly to see if anyone had noticed his exclamation. With that the corpse put on the armor in a hodge-podge effect from the two different piles and looked drastically unique. Is that what I would look like if I put on clothes?

"Yes, you would no longer be a bland pile of bones, but a distinguished individual of worth and importance."

Derick started thinking about the implications of this and what it meant and finally determined he would follow this 'lucky' skeleton until he inevitably ran into Gyrospoon7 and Taftinator then he would try to take out all three targets at the same time.

Activating stealth, Derick followed the hapless skeleton wearing the advanced gear he happened to find. While following the targeted individual in stealth, at the edge of his Psychic-Viewing which currently was an impressive 76 yards and offered a 40% stealth detection. Derick followed the individual for so long that he almost let out a gasp when he heard a faint ding, followed by the message:

Stealth has increased to level 26.

With that Derick once again minimized all pop-up messages and continued trailing the individual. Every once in a while he could see the targeted individual, SleezyGripper looking back over his shoulder in random directions, seemingly unaware of where Derick was. Finally Sleezy made his way to the exit and no sooner had he entered the small hallway than two individuals appeared from the shadows and started stabbing the poor individual.

Derick acted quickly grabbing all three individuals with mental hands that could reach for miles. He threw all three targets to different walls and threw SleezyGripper to the ceiling. Looking quickly he saw the blades of the two would be assassins, ripped them from their hands and began stabbing the now helpless rogues in the back, spine and neck repeatedly. Then, seeing no way out of it, Derick stabbed SleezyGripper as well until his body began to fall to the ground as a pile of disassociated bone. No sooner did he stop, than he felt a pounding pain in his head as he had never moved that many objects at one time. What was that five, six different weapons?

"It was seven sir, three opponents that you held immobile, and four different weapons."

Wow, Derick thought to himself before collapsing into a pile of bone and began to rest.

Finally after what felt like an eternity, Derick quickly walked over to the three bodies that still laid on the ground.

Wow, not bad for a half hour's worth of work Derick thought to himself. Is it just me or are Psychics really overpowered?

"You have indeed achieved a lot in your short time here. You have been listed on the largest bounty board for this area, which will mean that everyone you meet that recognizes you will target you for the 1,000 platinum reward for your dead skull. As for your second point, you do realize that for the second time in this world you have gone to your health pool to fuel your powers?"

With that Derick looked at his health pool, which sat at 232 of 300. He then looked over to his drastically depleted mental energy bar, mana bar which was grayed out to him, and his slowly recovering energy bar. That had been close, why does it cost so much? I should be able to lift everything I was moving?

"While you can 'lift' everything you don't have the skill or refined ability to maneuver your targets, at least not the way you keep wishing. As such your mind uses more mental energy to compensate for the precise movements. That and given the fact that your Wisdom is abysmal and only allows you to regenerate three mental energy points per second and it is a wonder that you are still standing."

  3? Just 3?

"Yes, so while you are a powerful 'one-trick pony' as you called it, that trick won't even take you out of the introduction zone if you don't come up with a better approach."

No wonder he had collapsed. He was dangerously close to death. Feeling resolved to add more to his wisdom when he could, he quickly ran over to the three corpses. He quickly and thoroughly looted the three bodies once more, this time leaving the gear that originally came from Taftinator and Gyrospoon7 on the floor. Derick then took all the items from the other two would be assassins and placed them in his inventory. Derick made sure to strap the four daggers to his body, his first real clothing that he allowed himself as he knew he would need easy access to weapons if he was to continue to live in this game. I will be resurrected.

Whether he didn't hear the thought, or felt it was useless to comment on such matters HAIL stayed quiet. Rather than going into the tunnel that left the final respawn zone, Derick went back to the center of the giant graveyard dropping off the two suits of assassin armor at different locations. Hopefully I can create some confusion if three different skeletons are seen going around in these distinct armor sets. With that Derick killed any and all skeletons and individuals that he found on his way back to the tunnels.

In one case he carefully approached two opponents who were engaged in a
duel to the death. Making sure that his mental energy bar was once again over half full he grabbed both targets with his mind and began throwing them up to the ceiling.

Only after fully filling his mental energy bar did Derick finally get up from the ground as he took a deep sigh before forcing himself to move forward.

Time to rinse and repeat. Deep down Derick wanted to feel bad that had erased no less than four individuals from the servers entirely, their memories and actions completely lost forever. It was then that Derick knuckled up and kept to his original plan, adding all eight unspent Spell Power Points to his Psychic-Vampirism. This raised his base Psychic-Vampirism skill to 21, giving him a 39% chance to steal a power or ability from a slain foe. Checking his internal radar to make sure everything was clear, he walked over to the two bodies, quickly touching each then discarding the damaged and trash level weapons and gear that each opponent had.

With that Derick collapsed to the ground thinking about how he would start killing people, when the stalactites would no longer be readily accessible. It was then he decided to practice leveling his skills. Thinking about it he grabbed the two trash level blades from the pile of trash on the floor in front of him then went off to a dark corner where he could begin practicing.

No sooner had he started moving than HAIL informed him "you have two incoming messages, would you like to speak with either of the individuals?"
