The door opened and Derrin walked in, smiling and nodding to Chris, breaking the connection between us.
I bolted.
Chapter Three
Splashing cold water on my face did nothing to cool my heated blood and I stood in the bathroom, breath fogging the mirror in front of me as I panted hard. Never had I been so affected by a man. Never. Not in all my years of college, even though I’d had plenty of offers, had any man been more than a fleeting distraction. But Chris? There was an aura around him, a force I could almost feel. One, in fact that had power over me.
As a nurse you get all sorts of propositions, men find us almost irresistible, especially the old ones for some reason. Why they find it so appealing, I’ll never know, most of the time I’m up to my elbows in body fluids – how sexy can that be?
I had to get back to the Ravens, had to do my job, but I had no idea how I’d respond to Chris and that made me nervous. I stared at the woman before me.
Blue eyes stared back, framed by dark blond hair and a sprinkle of freckles across her nose. Flat cheeks stretched down to a small chin below a surprisingly full-lipped mouth. I smiled and my reflection did the same.
Where’s the harm in letting him have my number? Doesn’t mean I’m going to do anything.
Convincing myself that was true, I went back to the room to find Derrin had changed back into his suit.
“I’ve been given the all clear,” he said. “And I got a book signing set up for this afternoon,” he punched Chris in the arm. “Autobiography, you know. Gotta make that paper, baby,” he grinned at me before walking out, leaving me alone with Chris.
Nervous anticipation made my head swim at the same time as making my lower belly clench deliciously.
Can he tell? Does he know I want him?
My fingers clattered over the keyboard, the sound thunderous in the otherwise silent room and I must have zoned out for a moment because when I turned round he was standing behind me.
I felt my breath catch in my throat as he brushed a single finger down my face, lifting my chin so I had to stare into his eyes. I watched in slow motion as his face came down and he brushed his lips over mine. It was the gentlest contact imaginable but erotically charged and I savored the moment, letting my eyes flutter closed.
I felt Chris withdraw but stood there, lips pouted and eyes closed like a madwoman, as if his kiss had been some kind of paralyzing force. I heard the door open, the sound thankfully snapping me out of my immobility. I looked at Chris who had a smug smile across his face as he watched me, his dark eyes glittering with amusement.
I felt my cheeks heating up, the embarrassment obvious to anyone who cared to look and spun away from the doctor that walked into the room.
“Hi, Chris,” the doctor greeted the NBA star like an old friend.
He didn’t even seem to notice me, a fact I was more than grateful for as I pretended to work at the computer.
“Hey, doc,” I heard Chris say. “what’s the verdict? Am I gonna be ready for the season?”
“After reviewing all your charts and looking at the M.R.I. results as well as seeing you today, I have to tell you...” I realized I was holding my breath again, concerned over his injury. “...you’ve got the all-clear,” he added with a chuckle.
It was plain to hear the relief in Chris’ voice when he thanked the doctor, the clap of their hands making me jump when they shook.
“Don’t let me down now,” the doctor was saying. “I’m going to lay a couple of bucks on you beating the Knicks this season.”
“Two dollar ante?” I heard Chris ask, sarcastically. “I’ll make sure we crush them for you, doc,” he added and the pair laughed.
“All right then, I’ll get the discharge paperwork underway, you can go ahead and change and we’ll see about getting you out of here,” the doctor handed me another iPad with Chris’ information and instructions on, again not speaking to me at all.
The pair exchanged a few words before the doctor left the room and Chris turned to me, grinning in relief and blowing out a huge breath it must have felt like he’d been holding for months.
“Whew!” He almost shrieked. “Goddamn that feels good.”
I watched him rub at his chest, the relief in him obvious and I realized this could have been a career ending injury for him, at best he could have been out this season, at worst, benched for good. I watched him pace in small circles, putting his hands on the back of his head and breathing deeply. When he turned back to face me I saw tears standing in his eyes and a weight fell on my chest to see it.
I wanted nothing more than to hold him, comfort him and tell him everything was all right but knew I couldn’t. Instead I smiled and pointed to the changing area. Chris nodded and stepped towards it but halted, holding his hand out to me in invitation.
Go!
I can’t!
Do it!
Frozen between the desire – the need – to be in there with him and the knowledge I’d be fired for doing anything like that, I stared at his big hand, steady and calm. His soulful eyes caught mine again and I knew I was hooked.
“Come and celebrate with me,” he mumbled.
Everything I’d worked for, everything I’d learned in college and then landing this job – everything – was at risk here.
Only if you get caught.
With the memory of his tender kiss on my lips, I slowly reached out and took Chris’ hand.
Chapter Four
With a salacious grin he dragged me into the surprisingly stark changing room. Inside sat a bed against one wall, a chair and a wheeled cupboard with drawers. Chris’ suit hung from a hook, on a hangar and a small, high window let light in but gave no view of the city outside.
Wasting no time, Chris buried his hands in my hair and pulled me into him, sliding his lips over mine. I felt myself responding, kissing him back as heat built between us in the little room. Chris pushed me up against the back wall at the same time as his tongue slipped between my lips, darting inside my mouth in teasing little flicks.
I moaned and dragged my hands up his body, lost in the excitement that coursed through me. Solid, rubbery muscle met my fingertips as they roamed freely over his body, the result of punishing workouts and gym sessions.
Something immense and hard poked my belly and I could feel the heat of his erection through our clothing. I reached down and wrapped my fingers around it through his gown and he moaned into my mouth. His tongue massaged mine now, slow swirls that drove me wild with desire and I pressed back, sucking his tongue hard as he kissed me.
Everything in me wanted this, wanted Chris, here and now but a tiny voice in the back of my mind cried out, begging me to stop, to do this somewhere else.
I ducked my head, pulling away from Chris as he groped for me.
“I-I can’t do this,” I told him. “Not here,”
He looked so disappointed I almost laughed but managed to keep it in.
“Then come to my house,” he pleaded. “Tonight?”
I nodded, not trusting myself to speak as I agreed. He took a card from inside his suit jacket and handed it to me. Glancing down I saw it had a lone cellphone number printed across the front and I gripped the thing tightly in my left hand as I bolted from the room.
In the bathroom I sat on the toilet, panting and weak kneed. What had that been? I’d been ready to screw a man I’d just met at work on my first day. I looked at the crumpled card and smiled.
There was going to be a party at Chris’s later.

Hey Chris, it’s Tallie.
Who dis?
Nurse Wainright.
Oh, yeah. Tallie huh? Cute name.
Thanks. Look about this morning…
Don’t sweat it, baby. It’s all good.
Send me your address and I’ll
get a car to pick you up.
Dunno if that’s a good idea.
Come on. I got a pre-season party

VIP list.

I’d somehow manged to finish my shift, discharging Chris and Ant before returning to Connie for other duties. At home I’d undressed and showered, throwing my panties into the laundry hamper, embarrassed at how damp they had been. My apartment was small but served me well and in a safe building close to the hospital.
I sat on my bed looking at the text conversation with the memory of his hands on my skin, the taste of his tongue in my mouth and the ghost of his breath in my nose. It was insane to think he hadn’t even known my first name when I sent the message. And I’d been about to… I shook my head.
Okay. A party, I could do a party. I’d been to a few at college even though I wasn’t a party animal. I dragged out the little black dress that I’ve had for a little while now and laid it on my bed as nerves started to plague me. This was an NBA star! Probably used to being surrounded by movie actresses, rappers and the latest reality stars. Would my old clothes fit in there? Would there be paparazzi? Reporters? I didn’t want to be seen there or embarrass him by not being current enough.
Even as I worried about it, I trawled through my drawers, pulling out a matching set of black, lacy thong and bra, sliding the scratchy material up my legs and settling the small triangle of fabric in place.
Once my bra and dress were on I looked in the mirror wishing I was something more. I applied make up and made sure my hair fell just right, thinking I had ages to wait when my door buzzed.
“Hello?” I asked, hearing the puzzlement in my own voice.
“Miss, Wainright?” A deep voice asked through my intercom. “I’m Mr. Parlington’s driver, he sent me to collect you.”
Already?
Looking at my clock I saw it was eight pm. The driver was right on time.
“I’ll be right down,” I said.
Nerves hit me again as I took the elevator down to the street. All this was so far out of my comfort zone I didn’t know what to expect, especially not the shining, black stretch limo that had been parked outside my building.
Beside the open, rear door stood a driver, complete with dark gray suit and tie, white shirt and patent leather shoes. His eyes followed me as I approached.
“I-I’m...” I began.
“Miss. Wainright,” he greeted me, offering his hand as I climbed into the massive car.
I looked out through the window as a few of my neighbors had gathered outside my building, straining to see what was going on when the driver closed the door. He walked slowly to the front and slid behind the wheel, glancing back at me with a genuine smile.
“Relax, Miss. Wainright, enjoy the ride. Feel free to have a drink if you’d like.”
I slid along the cream leather bench seat that ran along one side of the car’s interior to the small bar, staring in wonder at the array of drinks there. And ice, there was ice in a bucket. I grabbed a glass and poured a small measure of Smirnoff Vodka into it after dropping two ice cubes in. I swirled the vodka as the city slid by outside the car then swallowed the contents, letting the heat flare in my stomach.
Fifteen minutes brought us to the waterfront and a row of modern mansions all separated by massive plots of land. Glass, steel and other materials I couldn’t identify looked to grow from the river and I had to wonder at the cost of a place like this, each house with at least one yacht moored out back. The car turned into a driveway leading towards one of the larger homes and my mouth dropped at the sight of the place. It looked like several large boxes had been dropped at random, one clad in wood, one in glass and another in steel while the largest one had been finished in some kind of dark gray material. Lights shone from inside but gave no clue as to who or what lay within, maintaining privacy. Before the house and stretching around both sides of the property were azure pools of water that flowed and rippled in the reflected light given off by submerged bulbs.
The car came to a halt and the driver walked to the rear, opening the door and offering his hand to help me out. I looked around, not seeing any photographers and the driver pointed, probably thinking I was lost.
“Just over the bridge, miss,” he said.
I looked at the glass bridge that crossed the pools like a moat, staring down to see several, two-foot, gold and orange koi carp swimming lazily beneath me. I smiled and walked across and approached the house, watching my finger shake as I reached for the doorbell.
The door opened before I could ring it and I looked in at Chris as he stared back at me. He wore black suit trousers and a silk shirt, open at the throat, giving me a view of the swell of his pecs, and black loafers.
“Tallie, you look amazing, I’m real glad you came,” Chris said as he guided me into his house.
Music played from somewhere, I couldn’t tell where, and there was an atmosphere of happiness as he guided me into the main room. Ant lounged on a black leather sofa, holding his beer bottle to me in salute as I entered. I waved a few fingers at him as my eyes roved over the people in the room. Apart from Ant I could see Derrin and four other members of the Ravens, all accompanied by gorgeous women dripping in diamonds and with Louboutins gracing their feet. My patent leather heels didn’t have red soles and my diamonds were glass – I was out of my depth here.
“Drink?” Chris asked me as stranger’s eyes followed my every move.
“Okay,” I replied hesitantly.
He led me across to a bar and went behind, grabbing a glass before turning back to me and raising an eyebrow.
“Vodka orange?” I asked.
Chris slid the glass to me after a few moments, making sure our fingers touched as he passed the drink to me. I looked up to see that predatory stare that I loved, and was nervous about at the same time, on his face. He smiled and I felt myself responding.
“Come on,” he said, holding his hand out. “Let’s go meet some people.”
I took his hand, letting him lead me over to a group of people.
“You know Derrin,” he said. “And this is his wife, Theresa,”
Chris led me on a whirlwind tour of his teammates and their girlfriends, two of whom I recognized from TV. We chatted and they all seemed quite nice, I drank my vodka which was almost automatically refilled and then danced a little, Chris swaying gently against my back as the beat rolled through me. I felt a warm buzz as the vodka took effect and a smile crossed my face as I realized I was actually enjoying myself, having fun for the first time in ages.
I turned, wrapping my arms around Chris’ neck as a slow dance came on. We both swayed to the music, our bodies in synch with the rhythm as I lost myself in his eyes. I became aware most of the other people had left but ignored the fact when Chris leaned down and kissed me like he had that morning.
His lips seared mine, his strong hands in the small of my back pressing me against him. I could feel the hard length of his strong body against mine and the feeling excited my senses, making my heart beat and breath speed up. The song ended and I looked around, seeing the empty house.
Empty apart from Ant who sat on the sofa, watching some football match. Chris rolled his eyes at me and I giggled. We went over and I sat down beside Ant, Chris seating himself on the other side of me after grabbing another drink for us.
I could feel the heat from Chris’s leg through his pants and it spread to me, sending goose flesh up my side and when he laid a hot hand on my thigh images of us together, warm skin pressed against warm skin flashed into my mind. I smiled, the vodka giving me a warm buzz and turned to Chris.
Which is when I realized it was Ant that had been touching my thigh.
Chapter Five
Chris was watching, a wide smile on his face as his teammate groped me.
What the fuck?
I nearly leaped from the sofa when Chris started to massage my other thigh. I stared at him questioningly as his own gaze cut from mine to Ant’s.
“Tallie,” he said, his deep voice rumbling through my chest. “Ant and me...we want to show you a good time.”
I
couldn’t believe this. Had all this been just to get me here so I could...what? Have a three way with them.
No thank you, mister!
Although…
What? Where had that thought come from? Even as I asked myself that question I knew the answer. Years of being the good girl, years of putting my education and work before having a relationship. Even before losing my virginity.
And this is how you want to do it?
Well why not? Here I had two good looking, athletic guys who both desperately wanted me. And I was drunk.
“I’ve never...” I started but Chris cut me off.
“Us neither,” he said, thinking I was about to say I’d never been with two people rather than never had sex. “Believe me, this is all new territory for all of us.”
Not as new as me!
Nervous anticipation crawled through me pushed aside by a healthy dose of lust as Ant leaned in and took my mouth. His lips were a little firmer, a lot hotter than Chris’ and trembling nervously as he took my lower lip between his and sucked it gently.
I heard a moan come from me as he pulled kisses from my lips, probing gently with his tongue. Hands roamed over my body as I pulled away and turned to Chris, pulling his head into mine. Heat exploded inside my chest when his tongue invaded my mouth, my throat feeling tight as if it was being held closed. As I’d done earlier, I sucked his tongue deeper inside my mouth while Ant watched, all the time stroking and squeezing my thigh.
Little mewling sounds escaped my throat when Chris carried on kissing me, Ant’s hand roaming ever higher before slipping away. He tasted of beer and I reveled in it, not loving the taste of the drink but loving the smell on his breath and the taste of his mouth. Chris pulled back this time and Ant moved in for some more.
A whirlwind of thoughts and emotions rolled round inside me as Ant’s tongue flicked over my lips and darted tentatively against mine.
