  “Right. If you’re not going home today, why don’t you come to my place for dinner? I think I’m having a party.”

  “You’re not sure?”

  “At the moment I’m sure of a lot of things.” I linked my arm through Alan’s and smiled up at him. “But not what I’m having for dinner.”

  “I’d like that. I’ll buy a salad or something.”

  “I don’t think that’ll be necessary,” Alan said. “Around here, food means love. And Merry has a lot of love in her life.”
