“That happens when I only get two hours of sleep,” Trish snapped.

“Actually, three. Maybe some beer will improve your mood,” Ted said and headed for the kitchen.

“I don’t have any beer,” Trish said.

“Yeah, but I bet you got wine,” Darlene said and hopped up from her sleeping bag.

“What about Mr. Jacobs?” Trish argued.

“He’s sound asleep,” David said and walked towards the fire.

“Yeah, he was calling the hogs,” Ted said and opened the refrigerator, flashing his light inside.

Darlene grabbed wine glasses out of the cabinet, and Trish blew out an exasperated breath and plopped her head down on the pillow. David threw another log on the fire.

“You might as well give it up. I tried all ready,” David said and sat down on the floor across from her.

Ted and Darlene walked to them with full wine glasses and a bowl of chips.

“Brother, give one of these to Trish,” Ted said.

David took two glasses from Ted.

Darlene sat down next to Trish holding a wine glass and sat the bowl of chips on the floor. Ted sat next to David.

“You guys weren’t comfortable in Daddy’s room?” Darlene asked.

“I was,” David said. “But, this isn’t so bad either.”

“I was comfortable. I just wasn’t sleepy. I only go on about three-four hours sleep anyway,” Ted answered. “Get up, Trish. It’s not like you have to go to work tomorrow.”

  “Who says?” David asked.

“With the power out? You know this could last for days,” Ted said.

“Let’s play a game,” Darlene suggested and popped a potato chip in her mouth.

Trish admitted defeat by sitting up in her sleeping bag. “Like, what?” She rubbed her eyes.

David noticed her long hair was fluffy and tousled. She even looked sexy half asleep. David handed her a wine glass. She quietly accepted it from him and took a sip.

Ted took a gulp from his glass. “Let’s play truth or dare.”

“Ugh, what are we in high school? No way,” Trish said.

“I have to agree. It’s not a good idea,” David stated.

“I don’t know. It might be a giggle,” Darlene said with a smile.

“That’s the spirit, sunshine. Are you two chicken or what?” Ted teased.

“Fine. Since you’re so gung ho for this, Darlene, you go first,” Trish said.

  “Okay, David, truth or dare?”

  “Truth.”

“Why did you leave New York?”

His body tensed. With years of practice in a courtroom, he was able to quickly recover and transition in a nonrevealing answer. “There were many reasons, but the main one was I got homesick. The firm I worked for became too…impersonal for me.”

“My turn,” Ted announced. “Trish, truth or dare?”

  Trish rolled her eyes. “Dare.”

“I dare you to kiss, Darlene.”

“Oh, my God,” David said and rubbed his forehead.

  Darlene’s mouth dropped open.

“Eww. I never realized how juvenile you are. It would be like kissing my own sister.”

“But, you’re not sisters, technically,” Ted said.

“Oh, all right,” Trish said and grabbed Darlene’s head and kissed her on the cheek.

“Hey, I wanted some tongue action,” Ted said with a frown.

“You did not state any stipulations. Therefore, take what you got,” David said and sipped his wine.

“Can you take your lawyer hat off for one night?” Ted asked with annoyance.

  “No. Ted, truth or dare?”

“Dare me. Sock it to me.”

“I dare you to take your shirt off. Since you’re such a rough and tough type of guy; a little chill shouldn’t phase you.”

“Hell, that’s not a big deal,” Ted bragged and quickly pulled his sweatshirt off. He had some muscle definition, but it wouldn’t hurt for big brother to join David in the gym a few days a week.

Ted tossed his shirt to the side and proudly flexed his arms for the ladies.

Darlene looked down in her lap and giggled. Her cheeks turned pink.

Trish placed her hand on the side of her face and shook her head. “Are you okay?”

“Of course,” Darlene said in a high-pitched voice.

“Yeah. David, truth or dare?” Trish asked.

  “Truth.”

  “What was her name?”

  “What?” he asked with confusion.

“The woman you tried to forget in New York. What was her name?”

  Everyone fell silent.

Damn, how did she pick up on that? “Heather,” he answered and took another sip from his drink.

“Let’s keep the ball going,” Darlene said. “David, truth or dare.”

David shook his head. “I’m going to get hounded now I see. Truth.”

“Here - in the apartment earlier tonight - did you kiss Trish?”

Ted’s face perked up. He slowly sipped his wine to hide an amused look.

Trish’s mouth dropped open. “What the hell is the matter with you?” she asked as she turned to look at Darlene.

David smirked. He looked at Darlene and smiled.

“That’s a ridiculous question, Darlene. Of course, he didn’t-” Trish started.

“Yes,” he proudly and happily admitted.

Ted spat wine out of his mouth at the revelation. The liquid sloshed back into his glass.

Darlene laughed. “I knew it. David and Trish sittin’ in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g.”

Ted coughed and laughed at the same time.

Trish furiously got out of her sleeping bag with her wine glass and stomped away.

“Where are you going?” Darlene asked with a smile.

“To my bedroom to get some sleep,” Trish said and left the room.

“Party pooper,” Ted teased. “Don’t just sit there, David. Go after her.”

“All jokes aside, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Darlene said as her smile disappeared.

“Part of the game, sunshine. David, truth or dare?” he asked his brother with a mischievously smile.

David contemplated what Ted wanted to say. He returned his brother’s grin and said, “Dare.”

“I dare you to go after her,” Ted said.

“I accept that challenge,” David said. He grabbed his wine glass and stood up.

“That a boy,” Ted said with pride.

  “Oh, dear,” Darlene groaned.

  Chapter 15

Trish finished lighting the kerosene heater. A white pillar candle was lit on the nightstand. She grabbed her wine glass from the nightstand and sat down on the edge of the bed. Before she could take a sip, the door opened. David lazily walked in holding a wine glass.

She couldn’t believe he had the nerve to follow her. “What are you doing in my bedroom?”

David closed the door. “I think Ted wants to be alone with Darlene.”

“Then why didn’t you go back upstairs?”

David shrugged and took a couple of steps into the room. “I guess I wanted to be alone with you.”

Trish turned around. “You could have lied when Darlene asked you that. You’re a lawyer; you know how to lie.”

He took a drink from his glass. “I didn’t want to lie,” he said and sat down on the other side of the bed. “Why did you want me to?”

“Because, it was none of their business, and nothing is going on anyway,” she said and took a sip of her wine.

“I have to disagree on the statement about nothing going on,” he said.

She sat her wine glass on the nightstand. “Of course, you disagree. We always disagree. Will you please go so I can go to sleep?” Trish stood up and pulled the covers back on her bed.

A smirk played across his lips. “You’re going to kick me out into the cold?”

  “Yes.”

David smiled and placed his wine glass on the
other nightstand. He stood up and pulled down the covers on the other side of the bed.

Her eyes bulged. “What do you think you’re doing?”

  “I’m sleepy.”

He was insufferable. Her body tingled with anticipation, but her mind was reeling. They didn’t have anything in common. How could this be happening? Why was it happening? “Then go back upstairs.”

“I’ll sleep better down here. The view is better.”

She sucked in her lips to keep from smiling. Trish walked around the bed. She was heading for the door to open it for him to leave. David grabbed her by her arm. She whirled around to face him. He scooped her up like she weighed two pounds.

  “David!” she shouted.

“Shh. You don’t want to wake the whole world do you?” he asked.

Flustered, all she could do was pout like a child. It was the only way she could cover up the fact that her heart was pounding, and her body warmed at his touch. He leaned over and laid her down on her side of the bed. Then he crawled on the bed next to her. He pulled the covers over them and put his arms around her.

  “David, please,” she protested.

“Relax, I’m too tired to do… anything.” He nuzzled his head underneath her neck. “Now, go to sleep. I don’t want you to have bags under your eyes in the morning.”

Trish wanted him out. Away from her while she still had her wits about her. She started to squirm.

“Be honest. You really don’t want me to leave, do you? This is nice, don’t you think- just relaxing? Warming each other on a cold winter night,” he mumbled.

She exhaled. Yes, it was nice to have a hard body-confident man who found her irresistible next to her. For it to be David, that was a surprise but not totally unwelcomed considering how skilled he was in seduction. However, she wasn’t going to admit it- not tonight. Not any night. “You’re incorrigible,” she whispered and closed her eyes.

  ******

Trish woke up a couple of hours later. The candle still burned brightly on the nightstand, and David was lightly snoring on her chest. A part of her didn’t want to wake him. She wanted to rub her hand through his luscious hair, but he had to go before Mr. Jacobs woke up.

She shook his shoulders. David stirred and tightened his hold around her. He groaned.

  “David, wake up.”

  “Uh huh,” he mumbled.

“The sun is about to come up.”

He pressed his groin against her outer thigh. She felt something long and hard. Her nipples started to get aroused, and her eyes widened. “What is that?”

David opened his eyes as he let out a deep chuckle. “You know what it is.”

Her mouth dropped open “Put it away. What has gotten into you?”

“You. I think it’s your stellar wit and luscious lips. They can drive a man insane.”

“Yeah, right. Please go back upstairs before Mr. Jacobs wakes up,” she begged.

David quickly lifted his head and kissed her on her lower half of her cheek.

Her breasts started to ache. “David, please.”

“I make you a deal. You let me kiss you goodbye, and I’ll go upstairs.”

“Pretend that you did and go anyway.”

David cupped one breast and gently massaged it. He started kissing her neck.

  “David,” she pleaded.

He pressed his erection against her again.

  She let out a sigh.

He moved on top of her, using his knee to spread her legs. David propped himself up on his knees. Trish cursed the clothes they wore. He pressed his pelvis against her wanting vagina.

Both of David’s hands squeezed and massaged her breasts. Her eyes fluttered closed, and she exhaled.

“Can I kiss you now, sweetheart?”

“Don’t…don’t call me that,” she breathed. Her womanhood moistened with want.

He took in a breath. “Why not? You are sweet. Cooking for me and decorating my office.”

She sucked in. “It was a dinner party. Everyone pitched in. Please…go back upstairs.”

“Kiss me goodbye, and I’ll stop and go upstairs.”

She let out a moan. “Okay.”

He brought his weight back on top of her. He kissed her parted lips - lapping at them. Trish moved her hips to press against him as David continued to kiss her and massage her breasts.

“You taste sweet, too,” he mumbled against her mouth.

All reason left her head. She wanted him – now – all day- all night. His tongue explored her mouth. Trish moved her head to the side to break the kiss when she heard a tapping on the bedroom door.

“Trish? Can I come in?” Darlene shyly asked.

A snarl of frustration escaped through David’s gritted teeth. David let Trish scramble to her feet. He swung his legs over to the side of the bed as Trish went to the door and opened it.

Darlene stood at the door twiddling her fingers. “Hey, Daddy is still asleep on the couch. This could be a good time for David and Ted to go back upstairs.”

“I agree. David, you better hurry,” Trish breathed.

  Chapter 16

For a week and a half, David’s flirting and seduction attempts were becoming more difficult for Trish to resist. He always found a reason for he and Trish to be closer than an arm’s length apart. She did everything she could to schedule meetings with old clients and new. She even went out of her way to drum up new clients just to keep him busy with other things.

Two days ago, David said he needed help with his computer. When Trish leaned over to see what was on the monitor, he pulled her onto his lap. He stole a long, searing kiss. She didn’t know how long they made out, but she was grateful when she heard a delivery man come through the door.

Today, David was dictating a list of tasks to Trish. “I also need you to call Mr. Cockly and set up an appointment. It can be here in the office or a business lunch.”

Trish was too busy writing on her notepad to notice David taking off his tie and unbuttoning the top three buttons and cuffs on his dark-blue dress shirt.

“Also, make a note for me to call my brother about updates on pending investigations,” David said and stood up.

Trish kept writing and said, “I think we should start placing ads in the newspaper and possibly online. I think part of the reason you don’t get that many clients is because people don’t know-” Trish looked up from her notepad to see David walking around the desk towards her. “What are you doing? Where is your tie?”

“I got hot,” he said with a smile.

“I’ll turn the heat down,” she said quickly and stood up to go to the thermostat.

David lightly caught her arm. “You look a little overheated yourself.” He pulled her into his arms and kissed her. David reached for the bottom of her purple turtleneck sweater, and Trish let her pen and pad drop to the floor. He broke their kiss to raise the sweater over her head, tossing it on the floor.

Admiring the lacey white bra, David grazed his fingers over the curve of her breasts. “I can’t believe you’re not protesting.”

She couldn’t resist anymore. She wasn’t made out of stone. Trish looked down. “Don’t take it as encouragement; that sweater was getting hot.”

He lifted her chin to look at him. After giving her a quick kiss on the mouth, he kneeled down in front of her. His hands slid up her black stockings- under her purple suede skirt. He grazed her white garter belt before he reached her panties. She shifted her hips when his hands grabbed the edge of her panties. He pulled them down her legs to her ankles. Trish lifted her feet, so David could pull them away from her black high heels.

David stuffed her panties in his pants pocket. He hiked her skirt up around her hips as he stood up, and they came together for a long kiss. Their tongues caressed each other’s as David unhooked her bra. Without breaking their kiss, he maneuvered her to the edge of his desk and lifted her up on it. He blindly brushed off a couple of items, so she could get comfortable. David broke the kiss, pulled her
bra off and tossed it behind the desk. Trish braced herself with her arms and leaned back. David bent his head to suckle and play with her breasts. He kept it up until she begun to whimper with want.

David stood up straight as he let his hand glide down her body. Her legs opened to allow his hand between her thighs. David’s eyes darkened with lust as he admired her sex, and his finger begun to rub her button. Trish’s mouth dropped open and her eyes closed. Deep breaths echoed from David’s direction. Trish knew she should stop him. She knew she should get off the desk, grab her sweater and run back to the reception area. Yet, when she placed her hand on top of the one that was pleasing her- she caressed it. She let out a deep moan. He massaged her for another minute.

“You know what it does to me to see you like this? Do you want to know what I’m thinking now?” he asked in a deep voice.

Scared of the answer because she knew it was what she wanted, she shook her head, no.

“Yes, you do. Perhaps it will be better if I show you,” he said and fingered between her folds.

  She let out a gasp.

His middle finger slowly entered her wetness. Trish’s head swung back as she let out a little cry.

“Lay down flat. Relax,” he said as he moved his finger in and out. “Sometimes I think you’re more tense than I am.”

She slowly lay down on the desk.

“That’s it,” he soothed as she got comfortable. “Relax and just… enjoy, and I’ll enjoy watching you.” His thumb started to massage her nub again as his finger continued to go in and out of her.

Trish stretched out her left leg and lifted it. David grabbed her calf and placed her leg against him- her ankle rested on his shoulder. Her black heel stayed on because of the belt strap around her ankle. He used his free hand to slowly stroke the leg she had on him.

Her breasts felt full and tight. She placed her hands on the side of them. “Oh,” she breathed out.

“How do you feel?” he asked with a lazy smile.

  “Mmmm, wonderful,” she seductively answered.

“You’ll feel better than that if you played with them, I think,” he said and nodded towards her chest.

Her eyes opened at the suggestion. “I….I… you want,” she breathlessly stuttered.
