All at once, Casa recognized the feeling—the six of them were a family. Not linked by blood except for Jason and Jared, but a family none-the-less, joined by mutual respect, merged through a love for the outdoors and this beautiful part of it, and bound by other deeper connections beyond explanation. Jason settled one arm around Casa’s shoulders. He leaned into the other man’s solid warmth and let the last shreds of his anxiety slip away.
No more questions about dreaming too high or wanting too much. He was home, right where he belonged, where he would stay. Spark and Stace would never be too far, and their friendship would remain strong, but now there was someone even closer, even more important.
He rested his hand on Jason’s left thigh, squeezed and then relaxed his grip. Nothing to hide now and no need to be coy. That was part of this family, something they all understood. Maybe the wild bunch wasn’t really wild anymore, but that was exactly as it should be. The biggest and oldest boys eventually became men, and being a man was one of the greatest things a boy could aspire to.
Casa knew he’d made it and damned if it didn’t feel good.
