“Will she wake up soon?” Edric asked the other nurse.
“I don’t know Alpha, but with the way she is healing, I am sure it won’t be long,” she smiled and left the room.
Edric leaned down and kissed Jillian’s cheek. She didn’t stir. “I love you my Luna, you are amazing, you know that? Even I don’t heal that fast.”
Dr. Hess walked back in moments later with the main nurse and she showed him the results. He shook his head, hardly believing it himself. “Well, I’ll be. You have one special Luna, Alpha,” he said. “I have never seen a human heal like this before.” He looked to the nurse. “At her rate of recovery, we should be able to move her to a room first thing in the morning.”
“When do you think she will wake up?” Edric asked the doctor.
“I don’t know Alpha, be patient, her body had some serious, life-threatening injuries. I am truly amazed that the crash didn’t kill her. If I didn’t know any better I would think she was a wolf too,” he said, shaking his head. He then left the room, as did the nurse. Edric kissed his Luna once more and then left to get Jillian’s parents. He would not tell them how quickly she was healing, they would not understand, but he would tell Emerson and Warren, they would be interested in the news.
The nurse took Jillian’s parents back with her, while Edric shared the news with his Beta, Emerson, and Carla, who had shown up a few minutes before.
“She is a true Luna,” Carla whispered.
They then heard sobbing. They looked to see a family huddled together, crying.
Edric walked over to them, kneeling by them.
The man looked up and bowed his head. “Alpha.”
“Was one of your children on the plane?” he asked him.
“Yes,” the woman sobbed. “She burned up at the back of the plane when it hit the ground. We thought, we thought,” she sobbed.
“We thought she would be okay, being a wolf, they told us that she was one of the seven who had miraculously lived, but then we were just informed that she wasn’t. That she burned up at the back of the plane with the others,” he cried.
“I am sorry,” Edric said, putting a hand on the man’s shoulder. “I am truly sorry.”
“Why are you here?” the man then asked Edric softly.
“My Luna was in that plane crash too,” he whispered.
The wife gasped. “Oh no, Alpha, we are so sorry.”
He nodded. “She will be okay. I am sorry for your loss though. If I can help with funeral expenses, let me know,” he said.
“Thank you,” the man said sadly. “We appreciate it.”
Edric nodded and stood. He patted the man’s shoulder one more time and headed back to his friends.
“Poor family,” Carla said, wiping her eyes.
“There were only seven survivors,” Warren informed the Alpha, “including your Luna. Those that lived were in the middle of the plane. When it landed, it did so on its tail. It exploded when it hit, from what we understand.”
“More than likely the fuel tanks went up,” Emerson said.
“Probably,” Edric frowned. “I just don’t understand how the passengers in the front and in the back, even the pilot and co-pilot were killed, but not those seven in the middle.”
“So if Jillian had sat anywhere else,” Carla whispered.
“She would have died,” Emerson finished.
Edric collapsed into a chair. He was one lucky son of a gun to still have his Luna. He bolted up right then and cussed.
“What is it Alpha?” Warren asked.
“Something Jillian said the other day,” he frowned.
“What?” Emerson asked.
“She said she has bad dreams, that most of them came true.”
“So do you think that she dreamt of the plane crash?” Carla asked.
“I don’t know. But if she had, wouldn’t she have not gone, or let me know?” Edric frowned.
Emerson said, “I have heard of seers running in the werewolf family, but never in a human, but from the sounds of it, she could be a seer.”
“Unbelievable,” Warren said, shaking his head. “And you felt her pain when they crashed.”
“Because they are mated,” Emerson replied. “Even though she is human, Edric can still feel her pain and emotions.”
“Interesting,” Carla mused.
“Are you sure she isn’t a wolf?” Warren asked him.
“I don’t think so. Her parents aren’t wolves, I’m sure it doesn’t even run in her family.”
“Can you mind link with her?” Emerson asked him.
“No, not at all, it’s as if there is just a wall there.”
“That’s interesting,” Emerson replied.
Jillian’s parents walked back into the waiting room then, her mother wiping away her tears.
“She looks so peaceful. You can’t even tell she is injured,” she sniffled. “She looks only like she is sleeping.”
“She’ll be okay, but she will need to stay for a few weeks so she can heal, that’s what the nurse said,” Henry sighed.
Edric glanced at Warren who Emerson and Warren who both smiled. “Yes, she will need time,” Edric said, looking back at Jillian’s parents.
They all sat down to visit and decided as it got late that they had better all head home. They all needed sleep. They would not be any good to Jillian if they were dead on their feet. Edric went to Jillian's room before he left, and kissed her softly. Her bruises were totally gone. She didn't awaken as he kissed her, but a slight smile appeared on her face. He sighed as he left the room, forever grateful that she was alive.
Edric collapsed into Jillian’s bed after he got home, pulling her pillow to him, smelling her scent on it. Tears were on his face as he fell asleep.
Jillian moaned in her sleep. She was having such a horrible dream of a crash and fire. She had thrown herself across Kimberly and then had watched in fascination as blue sparks had flown from her hands, and those around her that looked on the verge of death had miraculously been saved. She startled awake and looked around her. She was hooked up to several machines. Maybe it wasn’t a dream. She had been hurt. She closed her eyes, as tears leaked down her face, remembering the plane falling, the screams from everyone, and the pain. The pain that was so excruciating, but she realized that she wasn’t in pain now. She was a little sore, and really tired, but that was it. Had she healed that fast? She usually did heal fast, and she wondered how injured she had been. Her injuries couldn’t have been that bad to heal so fast, right? She wondered if anyone had survived besides her. She knew that she had tried to save Kim, had she been able to? The tears started again, and that was how the Alpha found her, in her room, with tears coursing down her face.
The nurse was right behind him and rushed to Jillian’s side. “She must be in pain.”
“No,” Jillian whispered.
Edric walked to her side and collapsed onto his knees beside her. “My love,” he said, tears in his eyes. “I thought I had lost you,” he said.
She wiped his tears. “Did others live?” she whispered.
“Seven, including you.”
“Kimberly?”
“She is going home today, thanks to you,” the nurse smiled at Jillian. “You saved her life.”
“I didn’t want her to die, she is my friend.”
“She would have been okay love,” Edric said, kissing her hand. “You are the human, not her. Her wolf would have healed her anyway.”
“But how did the others die? Most of them werewolves,” Jillian pointed out.
He smiled sadly at her, proud of her for being so concerned about her classmates.
“The impact and the fire was too great for their bodies to handle.”
“Oh,” she said, more tears streaming down her face.
“Are you in pain Luna?” the nurse asked in concern.
“No, just tired, and a little sore. How injured was I?”
“You were severely injured when you were pulled off the plane, and
now you are healed. Your bruises are gone, your broken ribs and punctured lung healed. There was a gaping hole in your thigh, and all that is there now is a pink scar,” Edric shook his head in wonder.
“Oh, wow,” she whispered. So she had been injured more severely than she had thought.
The nurse checked her vitals, and then she left the room, a huge smile on her face.
Jillian pulled Edric to her, and kissed him, tears on her face again.
He kissed her back and then picking her up, careful to not pull out the tubes running into her, he set her onto his lap, and held her, letting her cry.
“I am so sorry that this happened,” he said, kissing her tears. “I am also eternally grateful you lived. I would die without you, you know. I heard you call my name, and then I felt your pain when the plane crashed,” he said, shaking his head. “It was excruciating and I can’t even imagine what you were going through.”
“How did you hear me, and how did you feel my pain?”
“I am sure it because I marked you like you asked, that is all I can figure out. You are also healing incredibly fast, and I am so grateful you will be okay.”
She snuggled against him.
“I love you, Luna,” he whispered to her.
“I love you,” she whispered back, grateful that she would be okay, and that he was there with her.
Her parents came back that afternoon to check on her. She was in a regular room then, and they sat by her side with the Alpha, telling him stories of her growing up while she rested.
She was tired and kept her eyes closed as her parents talked. Edric had told her she needed to feign being more injured than she was for her parents sake, so she just feigned sleep, it was the easiest thing to do.
“Jillian told me that you moved a lot while she was growing up,” Edric said, as he watched Jillian rest. Her color looked good, and her vitals were good.
“My job,” Henry nodded. “I had to move wherever there was work.”
“Oh? I heard that you moved even before your work was done.”
Henry frowned. “Well, yes. You see, we moved every time Jillian’s school year ended.”
“But why? Why not let her stay and make friends?”
“That was the thing. We knew that if she stayed that she might end up with a boy we didn’t like or hanging with the wrong crowd and we couldn’t allow that.”
“So you uprooted your daughter so she wouldn’t meet a boy or hang out with the wrong people? That’s not right,” Edric growled.
“It was what was best for her,” Henry shrugged.
“You had better not plan on moving again.”
“We won’t. Besides, she graduates soon, and she can decide what she wants to do from there.”
“Why did you move here in the middle of the school year?” Edric asked him.
Henry flushed. “Well, it’s a long story.”
“I’m all ears.”
“It’s not something I want to discuss right now. Let’s just say, a good friend of ours found out something about Jillian that made us move.”
“What?”
“I can’t tell you. But it wasn’t good. He was worried for her safety.”
“I see. Was she hanging out with the wrong crowd then?” Edric frowned.
“Something like that,” Henry shrugged.
Edric knew he was lying, but he wasn’t sure why. He could see Jillian causing a stir wherever she went though.
Jillian tried not to frown as she listened. What were her parents hiding from Edric? She knew her dad was lying about something, but what?
Chapter 12
Jillian heard her parents leave a while later, she was not even sure what time it was, but she was kind of relieved. She had a hard time with her mother crying and grasping her hand all the time. “I love you sweet girl,” she kept saying.
It seemed only minutes after that, that she felt herself being lifted and held by the Alpha. She cuddled against him and he chuckled. She then felt herself being laid onto a much more comfortable bed, and then she was covered up with a nice warm blanket. She fell into a deep sleep after that, until she started having another nightmare.
She screamed out and felt an arm tighten about her. “Shh love, I’m right here,” Edric said.
She rolled over and opened her eyes. He was looking at her in concern.
He wiped a tear off her face. “What is wrong love?” he asked softly.
“I had another dream,” she whispered.
“Want to talk about it?”
“Some people were out on a big yacht, and a huge storm came up and they all went overboard, and drowned,” she whispered.
“Was it anyone you knew?” he asked her.
“Some girls from school, I don’t really know them, but I don’t want them to die,” she whispered.
“Hm,” he frowned. He then looked at her. “Jillian, will you tell me about your dream you had before the airplane crashed?”
She shuddered and he gathered her into his arms. She then looked at him. “Why are you in my bed?”
He chuckled. “I had the nurses put in you in a bigger bed that I brought in, so I could be here with you,” he shrugged.
“Really.”
“Yes, really,” he grinned.
“That’s not awkward,” she stated, making him chuckle.
“Your dream,” he insisted.
“It was just as it happened, the plane crash,” she said, “but I wasn’t in that dream. There were others that I didn’t know, so I figured that I would be okay. I dreamt that as soon as the plane took off it suddenly took a dive backward. I had no idea it would be my plane, or I wouldn’t have gone,” she shuddered, “and I would have had you or someone warn the others. I didn’t know Edric,” she cried. “I could have saved everyone, but they all died, because I didn’t say anything.”
“It is not your fault my love,” he said, kissing her softly. “You didn’t know.”
“What of the others who lived?” she whispered. “Are they okay?”
He nodded. “Yes, they are all healing nicely. We figured that because of where the seven of you were sitting, that is why you were saved.”
Jillian nodded, but she knew that wasn’t why they had all lived. She had saved them. She wouldn’t tell him though, because it was still strange to her, blue sparks flying from her hands to heal the others.
“I am going to call the school and see if any of the girls have a yacht, and if they are planning on an excursion soon,” Edric said. “We don’t need any more deaths.”
“You believe me?” Jillian whispered.
“Of course love. I am just trying to figure out why you are having these dreams.”
“Maybe something is wrong with my head,” she muttered.
He chuckled and leaning over he kissed her softly. “No my love, you are definitely all there.” He kissed her once again. “I have good news also, the doctor said you are healed. I will take you home tomorrow if that is okay.”
“For being all healed I have been so tired, why?”
“Because healing takes a lot out of someone, and you healed even faster than I do, which is quite amazing. You are amazing my Luna.”
“It’s because I have you as my mate,” she smiled at him.
“Yes, I am sure that is it,” he chuckled. “I’ll send a nurse in with some light food for you and I’ll come and check on you later, okay?”
She nodded and he left the room after kissing her.
She then got to looking around the room. It was quite opulent for a hospital room. It looked like a very nice bedroom, except for all the medical equipment. She also noticed she was in pajamas and not a hospital gown and wondered who had changed her, and how she had been so out of it, that they were able to do so.
Her door opened a few minutes later and Ruben walked in with Kimberly. She squealed with delight when she saw Jillian was awake. She threw herself at Jillian, hugging her tightly, and then she began to cry.
“I am so glad y
ou are alive,” Kimberly cried. She then sat down on the bed by Jillian. “You saved me,” she whispered.
“I know, and you are welcome.”
“I can’t believe you would save me at the cost of almost killing you,” Kimberly pointed out. “I would have been okay, but you are human.”
“I didn’t think about that,” Jillian shrugged, “but I am glad I saved you.”
“I am too,” Ruben smiled at her. “I owe you everything for saving my mate.”
Kimberly hugged her again. “You look good for being so injured.”
“Something about being a Luna,” Jillian shrugged. “I heal fast, just like you guys do.”
“Woah,” Ruben said, shaking his head. “That is crazy.”
“I know, I agree. But I don’t mind not having to be hooked up to all kinds of contraptions,” Jillian said, pointing to the single saline drip in her arm.
“So, it looks like you got the best suite in the house,” Kimberly teased her.
“Yes, I noticed. I wonder why I am in here?”
“I am sure the Alpha insisted,” Ruben told her. “This is his room if he gets injured enough to warrant a hospital visit.”
Jillian paled at his comment.
“Not that he has been in here, for a long, long time,” Ruben backtracked, seeing her face.
“So, the Alpha has his own room?” Jillian asked in shock.
“Well duh, he does own the hospital,” Kimberly said.
“Of course he does,” Jillian muttered.
Kimberly laughed. “Just saying, the man has some money, honey. Has he bought you anything?” she winked.
Jillian rolled her eyes at her friend. “No, well, except for artist supplies.”
“Art supplies? You paint?” Kimberly asked.
“Yes, and he has this incredible studio that he set me up in that was his mom’s, so I can paint when I want,” Jillian smiled.
“Oh honey, you have it bad,” Kimberly laughed.
“What?”
“You love the Alpha,” she winked.
“Is it that obvious?” Jillian blushed.
“Just a bit,” Ruben grinned. “It’s okay Jillian, you are supposed to love your mate.”
The nurse walked in then with a tray and set it on Jillian’s lap. “Here’s some broth, Jell-O, and apple juice. The doctor wants you to start out with liquids. If you can handle it, then we can feed you something soft this evening, okay?”
