“Do I?” She asked, propping herself up on an elbow so that she could see him.
Lifting his head he kissed her smiling mouth. “You do. And the best nose,” he said, kissing that as well, “and the best chin.” Connie laughed as he continued to name and then kiss each of her facial features. She couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the day and she told him just that.
His smile turned sly and his eyes narrowed. “Truly?”
“Truly.”
Her answer was barely out of her mouth before he flipped her onto her back and loomed over her for moment. Expecting him to kiss her breathless, maybe muss the sheets a bit with some loving, she was surprised when he dropped a kiss on her nose and said, “Hold that thought.” Before he left the bed.
Connie lifted her head off the pillow to see his scrumptious bare backside walking away. “Where are you going?” She asked with some disgruntlement, “We were having a moment.”
With a cheeky grin shot over his shoulder, Jacob walked to their Christmas tree and pulled a small box from the branches. Connie shot up to her knees on the bed as she watched Jacob carry the gift back to her, grinning the whole way. It was wrapped in gold paper with a fancy red bow on top and was just about the right size to make Connie’s heart beat double-time in her chest. She wanted it to be a ring with every beat of that heart. She wanted this to be the moment. Nothing could be more perfect.
Bouncing on her knees, she held out her hand while her inner voice tried to calm her. Even if it wasn’t a ring she would still be happy. A lovely broach would be nice… who the hell was she trying to kid? She wanted that ring! With a happy squeal she tore off the paper just as Jacob knelt down in front of her. She was about to open the box and reveal its contents but the look in Jacob’s eyes caught her attention and stole her breath as he cupped her hands – and the small jeweler’s box – between his large palms. She couldn’t look away.
“Constance Tully, I have loved you since the first moment I saw you as a little princess eating pancakes with your dad.”
Connie felt her eyes fill with tears and she sniffed, trying not to break into an ugly cry as he continued. “Since then I’ve watched you grow into such a strong, talented, and brave female that you take my breath away. I may never be worthy of you, but God, how I hope you’ll give me a chance to try. Will you marry me?”
With an ear-splitting squeal, Connie tackled him and sent them both tumbling to the floor. “I love you, Jacob.” She said peppering kisses all over his face. “With my whole heart, I love you. You are so worthy, so wonderful…”
Jacob cupped her cheeks and kissed her deeply. When they finally broke the kiss to come up for air, Jacob grinned “Is that a yes?”
Connie beamed. “Yes!”
