But he wasn't looking at the cloth.

  He was looking at her.

And everything he felt was on display. He'd cracked his heart open and laid it out for her.

The need. The hope, the longing. And the fear.

The same twist of emotions that tumbled through her when Sterling had asked her to go to Ardell with him.

But unlike Sterling, she hadn't been brave enough to show what she felt. To trust herself.

Myra had let her doubt win out and she allowed herself to fall back on what was comfortable and familiar.

On the contentment she'd forced herself to find alone at the edge of civilization. On the life she built for herself filled with the comfort of routine and safety.

The kingdoms represented a wide-open unknown. The type of risk Myra had avoided since the moment she'd spent a purse full of coins to buy a home and a loom.

But she built that life to hide. To keep her secrets and protect herself.

In the Mirror Cavern, Myra had stepped outside the confines and restrictions that had been placed on her.

  That she'd placed on herself.

Myra had discovered a strength she'd never known she possessed inside of herself. Not just the magic she'd ignored and buried, but confidence and pride and honor. A willingness to fight. To protect herself with determination instead of deception.

Myra had found the exhilarating ability to shape her own destiny.

Yet here she was, slipping back behind a mask. Choosing safe over the unknown. Because she was afraid.

In truth, Myra had never had any dreams of her own. She'd been too young before her mother died. Too exhausted under the thumb of the Milners. And too busy hiding after she'd been Taken.

Maybe it was time to find out what dreams were out there.

Going to Ardell didn't mean she had to stay away from Mount Acaelum forever.

Myra brushed her fingers over the bedraggled fabric Sterling held and smiled. "I hear some of the weavers in Ardell use a different kind of loom. I've always wanted to see the tapestries they create. Maybe I could help you finish this on the trip to the kingdoms."

Myra peeked up from beneath her lashes, to find Sterling staring at her with stunned joy. A soft smile curved her mouth in return and she leaned forward.

He met her halfway and their lips brushed gently for moment, before Myra wrapped her arms around Sterling and he pulled her in close. The kiss became a deep, eternal promise of the love and adventure and comfort to come.

And when they reluctantly parted, Myra laughed to see the fabric balled up tight in Sterling's fist. Even when they lost themselves in each other, he'd refused to let go.
