Another one of the bikers threw in his two cents worth, as well. “Yeah, that chick’s a stunner. She knows how to handle a bike, too.”

Guys did what they did and started sneering about it. Just a few of them, though, the womanizers of the group, and some of the riders who talked about her I wasn’t familiar with. The anger piled up in my throat, so I needed to say something.

“Watch your mouth, guys. We got kids on the ride.” I tried to disguise my jealousy, but it didn’t work out.

“Why you got your panties in a bunch? If she’s a looker, she’s a looker. Take it easy,” one of them said.

“He’s right, guys. We’re family orientated here, and we got a lot of women riders in the group. We need to respect that code,” another one said, backing me up. The guys shut up after that, but it took a minute for me to calm down. I wanted to slash their tires.

I remembered the location of the warehouse that Autumn wanted to set up at from our ride. I wanted to sneakily check out if she really bought it. I had to put in a little bit of effort to keep it quiet at the shop with Magner the next day. I didn’t need him ribbing me.

“Hey, bud. I need some fresh air. I’ve been working too hard.”

This time he didn’t look up. He was fixated on a part he was working on. He gave me a salute signal.

I rode over to the back of Berkeley, where Autumn’s new store was. I was shocked to see Autumn unpacking. She was signing deliveries with a courier. Incredibly, she was a lady of her word.

“Thanks, I’ll take it.” She grabbed a bunch of packages from the delivery guy. Even he was smitten with her.

“My wife likes books. Maybe I will have her come check out the shop.”

I watched from afar as Autumn flicked back her hair like one of those women from the Pantene commercial. To me, she was a goddess. A true beauty like no other.

“Of course. Always good to spice some things up.”

The guy laughed nervously and left after he got her signature. That jealous demon reared its ugly head, and I struggled to keep it under control. I wanted to know why I even felt like this in the first place.

Her sign was up and everything, and it had purple and black letters. She’d done an amazing job on it. She’d done everything she said she would do. I didn’t know if it was because I hadn’t seen her in a while, but from head to toe, she had my engine revved up. Her essence and her radiance shone through. I’d messed up. I couldn’t leave it like it was. I wanted—no, I had—to be with her.

She gave me the biggest smile when I rode up to the shop to see her. My heart yearned to be next to her. I wondered if she felt what I felt. I was ready to stop running.

  “Hi,” I said.

She winked. She had on this glossy pink lipstick, making her lips look ultra kissable, taunting me at every turn. I sucked in a breath and approached her with as much confidence as I could muster.

“Hi, yourself. Welcome to my shop! Glad you’re here.”

The California sun beat down on both of us, giving her a nice sheen. She fanned herself, and I noticed the tan she’d gotten since I last saw her.

“The sun is cooking me right now. You coming in, or what?” she teased.

“For sure, I am.” I parked my bike and walked in with her.

I had no clue what an erotic bookstore would look like. The store was a far cry from the lackluster warehouse we first rode past. A reception area with a bookstand and erotic trinkets were in place already. I picked up the mini-handcuff keyrings.

I winked at her. “Someone’s been a bad girl and needs to be locked up.”

I got a sassy reply. “Who says it’s me getting handcuffed. Might be you.”

I grinned. She was a good flirt. She had a bright neon sign put up at the entrance and a ton of books. Shelves of them were sectioned off, probably by their types. People were walking between the aisles and poring over the content of the books. I even saw some women with their boyfriends. Sex was in the air, and it was obvious that Autumn knew what she was doing. I noticed she had a section called the Spice Corner. Autumn was blowing my mind.

“I wouldn’t mind being tied up by you,” I said. She tossed back her head like in a slow-motion replay. Her chestnut curls moved with her like the waves of the ocean. My God, what was I thinking? Letting her nearly slip away like that. “This store feels like a Wonderland. You could get lost in here. It’s really crazy. I never knew there were so many sex books out there.”

“You mean erotica. That’s very different and more tasteful. We don’t do porn here. I added other items that go together with the books. A lot of men come in here. You’d be surprised.” She flashed her sapphire jewels at me and beckoned for me to follow her. “Come on, follow me. There’s more.”

I walked behind her in a trance. I remembered holding that delectable ass in my hands, and I silently groaned. She was giving me a hard-on right in the middle of the store. I had to control myself, and it took every ounce of strength I had to do it. I had to say something. I would wait for the right moment, though.

“In this section, we have the Dominatrix series. It seems Californian housewives are into it. These are my best sellers. I’ve only been open a month, and they all sold out! I just got more stock in.”

  I whistled. “You into it?”

She smiled at me coyly. “Depends on how it’s done. Maybe with the right partner. It’s all what you’re comfortable with. To each their own, you know?”

“Interesting.” I scanned the place. She fixed some books on the shelf.

  “How you been, Carter?”

“Better now that I’ve seen you.”

She looked me up and down a minute. “You’re looking good.” She squeezed my bicep. “Have you been hitting the gym? You look extra buff.”

I started to speak, but the loud ringing of the front door cut me off.

“Hold that thought. I have some ladies coming in to test-run our erotic book club.”

She was an impressive woman. The whole package. I sighed and willed myself to not fuck up again.

  “Hey, ladies,” she called.

She hugged them all. Some of them I recognized from The Red Gorilla. One of them had on a red feather boa. It looked like they were about to get into some serious fun. I guessed sex did sell. I picked up some fruit and chocolate-scented lubricant, not that I needed it. It might be fun to try some of this stuff, though. A whole other world existed here. I saw vibrators of all shapes and sizes on the wall in front of me, and I was sure many more things of that nature were scattered throughout the store. The place was never-ending. It smelled of fresh citrus and had a lounge area. She’d thought of everything, it seemed.

Once Autumn finished up with the ladies at the front, she came back to give me the rest of the tour.

  “Liking what you see?”

“Very much so,” I said as I stared straight at her. She met my gaze with those blazing turquoise eyes that I could dive into. Right then, I knew she felt what I felt, so I took the leap. “Can we talk about something?”

She didn’t skip a beat. “What do you want to talk about, Carter?”

“I know that last time we spoke...I mean, after everything that went down...” My voice trailed off. I was struggling to get it together.

She looked amused, and her eyes sparkled. I ran my finger over her lips, and she closed her eyes in desire.

“Carter. Stop if you don’t mean it.” Her voice was a sultry whisper.

“I do mean it. I don’t want to just be your friend. I never did. That was me being in denial.” I searched her face as she absorbed what I proposed.

“So, what do you want?” she asked. She licked her lips and peeked out at the ladies at the front. They were busy joking and having a good time.

“I want to know if we can be together.”

“You know this isn’t going to be easy, right? I mean, Phoebe hates you.” She stroked my arm

“I hear you. Magner thinks you’d distract me from the business.” Sh
e gave me an are-you-kidding look. “If anything, you’ve been nothing but an inspiration to me. You’ve shown me what’s possible.”

“I don’t want to be just friends with you, either. Let’s just keep it quiet for now and give ourselves some time to get to know one another.”

The world stood still. I wrapped her into my arms, and her hands went around my neck as if they belonged there. My lips met hers recklessly. I let her take the lead as she tugged on my bottom lip. I wanted to take her in the stockroom and let out all my passion for her. I shouldn’t do that, though. Both of us knew it, and it made it all the more exciting. Teetering on the brink of insanity, I responded by matching her pace. I heard her sexy moan, softly, nearly making me come undone. I sucked in oxygen. She was a vixen, threatening to take me under. I wanted to go there with her, though. To explore her depths. Just not right in the middle of her bookstore. Maybe when all the customers were gone, though.

“Stop. We gotta stop,” I said. I took two steps back, and Autumn moved two steps toward me, not missing a beat. “I gotta get back to work.”

“You sure?” She stroked my chin and licked it. Goddamn.

“Yes. Autumn, I wish I didn’t.” I put my head into her neck. So sweet. My place. I picked up her fingers and laced them through mine, and I grazed my lips over her knuckles, then I dropped her hand reluctantly. “I’ll see you soon.”

“Can’t wait, Carter.” She blew me a kiss.

Just like that, I finally accepted that Autumn was the woman for me. In a trance, I turned back to her. Her mouth was open. I pointed to the stockroom behind her. “Is that stockroom soundproof?”

She lowered her eyes at me. “We can make it that way. It runs pretty deep to the other side.”

I glanced back at the ladies.

“They won’t hear us,” she whispered. She opened the door and walked in. I followed her.

It was dark and hot, with books stacked on a long table at the back. I was going to take her on the table. No matter what, I wasn’t leaving here without tasting her. This time, we were both sober.

I wrapped my arms around her from the back as she reached her arm around my neck. I grabbed her breasts and kneaded, and she gasped in pleasure. I licked her ear and guided her footsteps forward, putting my hand on the table and pressing down.

“Can it hold our weight?” I muttered in her ear. It was sturdy and wooden. I presumed it would. “I want you to be comfortable.”

  “I don’t see why not.”

I had both of her breasts in my hands now, covering them from the back. I cupped them softly and ran my hands over the top of her dress to her hot center. She cried out in delight.

“You gotta be quiet. Otherwise, we’re going to be part of those books out there.”

She wriggled away and faced me. “Let them listen and wish.”

“You are my type of lady.” Brash and bold, that was the essence of Autumn. Silently, I lifted Autumn’s dress over her head and saw black lace. She repaid the favor and lifted my tee over my head.

  “I missed this,” she said.

She spattered red hot kisses from my shoulder down my stomach, pausing when she came to the top of my jeans. I heard the zipper, and the next thing I felt was those full hot lips wrapped around my cock. I watched as she pulled me in and out of her velvety warm mouth, making my head spin. I grew bigger each time she drew back. She took the fullness of me in her mouth. Circling. Driving me to the brink of insanity.

I grabbed her hair tightly and pulled her head back. “I know what you’re doing. Not going down like that. You’re trying to kill me,” I moaned. I showered her with kisses as she came back up.

She slipped her panties off and said, “Let me ride you.”

I unclasped her bra and let her breasts spring free. I cupped and sucked them, listening to her guttural groans. Autumn always wanted to be in control, not that I minded. This is the type of control I was willing to concede to.

“Come and get it, baby. This motorcycle is ready for you.”

The light was low and added an element of danger to the atmosphere. She tossed her long, dark hair back as I laid back on the wooden table. I saw thirsty lust in her eyes as she climbed up on me like a cat and sat down on top of me.

I felt her walls expand as I entered her moist center. She splayed her hands across my chest as I held her hips in place. We got the table shaking with the primal needs we both wanted to be fulfilled. We found a cadence that brought us both to a place of seeing stars, just me and Autumn, in the throes of rapture. Right in her bookstore, we were playing out the story that others would only dare to read.

I loved the noises she made as she worked herself against me and rode me harder and harder as the sound of our skin slapping together filled the room. I pulled her fingers into my mouth, and with one final motion, we came together, shattering into orgasmic bliss on her table.

“Jesus, Autumn.” It was even better sober.

We had both worked up a nice sheen for our trouble. She collapsed in a contented sigh on top of me as I kissed the top of her head.

“Well, that was unexpected,” she murmured.

“A great, unexpected moment. I know my work productivity will pick up a notch when I get back.”

We laughed easily together. I stroked her soft skin, cupping her ass. I felt her heartbeat next to mine, and it brought a smile to my face. I heard laughter outside the door and remembered we were in her bookstore.

“Wait, I have a beach towel somewhere.”

She wiped her face and body first, then mine. I kissed her and got dressed.

“I won’t fuck up this time. I want to make it up to you. See you tomorrow night for dinner?” I helped her pull her dress over her head.

  “Yes, I would love that.”

“Autumn, you light up my life.”

“You light up mine, too, Carter.”

I kissed her swollen lips one more time. “I gotta go, baby. See you tomorrow.”

I walked out of the stockroom and out of the back of the building. I was riding high. Autumn and I had just become a secret item.

  Chapter Ten: Love Blooms

Forbidden romance—it was not that easy to keep up, but I was enjoying the adventure of it all. The lovemaking with Carter was off the charts. We had this routine down pat. He would text me after he got off work and come around then. He showed me new things, and I loved his spontaneous side. Like just last week he called me up on a Saturday morning,

“Let’s go to Marina Bay. Come on. I know some friends there, and we can go out on a boat. They told me to call them when I was in town next, so I can make a few calls.”

“Are you serious?” I’d been working so hard that I’d forgotten about the beauty of the California coastline.

“Yes, I’m serious. Let’s go play!”

I dressed so quickly that I surprised even myself. In just a few minutes, I was fresh, flirty, and ready to roll. Carter enhanced my adventurous streak, and that made me even more enthralled with him. The beauty of the ride and salty air coming off the ocean made me feel alive, and the roar of the bikes as we surpassed the cars was exhilarating. I regretted giving up riding all those years ago. With Carter, I was making up for the lost time. We stopped and ate burgers and fries, enjoying the bay as we watched Mother Nature sprinkle her glorious light over the water. Seagulls squawked and begged for our leftovers, and I threw them a fry or two. I let my legs hang out and tan a little, too. Carter lifted his face to the sun and watched me.

“I love being here with you. I’m having a great time.” Carter faced me, stroking the side of my leg with his finger.

“Me too. I really enjoy your company.” I gave him a radiant smile. He paused for a minute as I listened to the sounds of the water lapping at my feet.

“Do you want to go on the boat with my friends? Because, personally, I’m happy here with you, chilling.”

I didn’t want a crowd. I was around crowds every day. I wanted to have Carter to myself. “No.
I want to spend time with you and enjoy the present. There’s a ferry cruise out over the bay. You wanna take it? We can enjoy the sunset.”

He nodded. “Sounds perfect, Autumn. We’ve got twenty minutes. I know the one. I used to come here when I was a kid. I rode with my dad, too, like you did with yours.”

“I didn’t know that! So cool.” I sighed. “It’s a really pretty place. Plus, I never thought to stop here. Everybody talks about Santa Monica, but never here.”

“I love the hidden places that people don’t think of. That’s why I like riding. You can find them easier. It’s hard to see them when you’re in a car.”

  “I agree.”

Carter pulled me to him, and we kissed, long and passionate. It was the beauty of romance and new love. We made it in time for the ferry, and not too many people were on it, which suited me just fine. The water stayed calm for us, and I allowed myself to breathe. Carter sat right beside me, and I was tucked under his arm. There was no place I would rather be.

I didn’t know I could feel even freer than I was already. The only thing that got me down was that I couldn’t tell Phoebe just yet. I wanted my relationship to be solid with Carter before I said anything. It was hard to conceal things from her, though, because she was pretty good at picking up things with me. After such a euphoric day with Carter, I floated on cloud nine to work.

“You seem so happy these days. Is it because of the bookstore?” Phoebe caught me as I dropped my bags in the office. I was spending less and less time at The Red Gorilla. Mainly because I wanted the running of the Vixen Room to be a smooth transition. So far, so good.

I had Phoebe step into a management role at The Red Gorilla, and I raised her pay. I wanted her to thrive right along with me. I had an underlying goal of making her the general manager, but I didn’t want to overwhelm her. Step by step, I integrated her into more responsibilities.

“Yes, mainly. I’m just happy, in general. This Cali sun got a girl shining.” I was a good liar this time, I guessed because she was buying it so far.

“No men I should know about? You normally have one or two on your hit list. I’m glad you stopped telling your sister who you were dating.”
