Haunted Happenings

“Your family has been waiting to see you, little one. They have missed you dearly.” Father Mitchell had replied.
Tom had taken Angela by the hand. “We need to go, Angela. This is not where we belong.”
“You will find peace. You will find your family.” Father Mitchell told them.
Their eyes had widened at his words and they’d exchanged a look. It was as though everything was beginning to make sense to them now. Jill had to wonder how they’d gone this long without knowing that they were dead, but she knew very little about the ghost world. She didn’t care to know any more than what she’d already encountered.
Father Mitchell had continued to speak in Latin and then there had been a bright light and then there’d been nothing. It had all happened much like Jill had seen in the movies and she couldn’t believe that she was seeing it in real life.
They had thanked Father Mitchell and he’d headed on his way. He’d told them to contact him if they had any more issues, but he was fairly certain that the children had found peace.
It was a month since Father Mitchell had administered last rights to the children, and there had been no further incidents at the house. Neither Greg nor Beth had spoken of Angela and Tom again. Jill had no further sightings and she hadn’t heard the footsteps again as she drifted to sleep.
A part of her missed the children. She’d just grown accustomed to having them about and then they were gone. She knew that Greg and Beth missed having their playmates around but they’d made friends with some of the children on the block so it wasn’t a complete disaster.
They had also started school. They’d been nervous about their first day at a new school, but Jill had heard nothing but good reports from them. They were making friends and enjoying it, and in no time, they had settled in completely.
There were no more incidents at the house. No more ghost children or smoke filling the air or flickering lights or screams. Nothing. It was wonderful to have nothing happening for once.
Cam was relieved that it was all over. He hadn’t wanted to leave Jill to deal with that or to leave his children in that environment. He wanted to know that they were safe when he left for work in the morning and that they weren’t playing with ghost children or reliving the tragedy of the house being razed by fire. That was more than any of them should ever have to experience.
With all that doubt subdued he could finally focus on his job, and work was going well for him. He was still putting in more hours than he wanted to, but it was interesting work. The hope was there that things would level off in the next few months and that he’d get some vacation time. Maybe they’d go somewhere, or maybe they’d just stay home. They could do anything they wanted. The world was their oyster.
Jill was settling into her work-from-home life very well. She’d established her business through all the proper channels and taken her time to advertise. Her home office was set up exactly the way she wanted. It had taken a month or so but she was starting to get clients now. She was starting to get established.
All in all, the Ashwood House was perfect. Now that their ghost problem was solved, they were settling into their new life nicely. It was exactly what they had wanted and what they had needed.
All they could hope was that Angela and Tom had found peace. The children deserved that much especially when the family had found peace in their absence.
