Because she’s home. She’s the place my heart was always meant to find.

She completes me perfectly. She’s the missing part of my soul. Of my boring, empty existence. She’s bright and vivid and congenial. And I want to be deserving of her presence, of her warmth.

Flicking the light on, I enter her bedroom. Inside it, a twin-sized bed and a wardrobe are the only furniture, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t have Christine written all over. More pictures cram the wall, a laptop rests atop her covers. Even the laptop, covered in stickers, has the imprint of her soul.

I lie her down and sit next to her. Turning to face her, I brush her hair away from her face and pat it in place, and I check every inch of her exposed skin to look for any trauma. The only marks are the ones I left, the hickeys and bruises from our passion, from our meeting.

“How are you feeling?” I ask in a hoarse voice.

“I’m good.” She takes in a deep breath and releases it. “I don’t mean to be rude but... What are you doing here?”

I run a finger over her lower lip. “I came after you. I couldn’t let you leave.”

Her lower lip bobbles. “I thought you were only interested in sex?”

A chuckle escapes me. “I told you, my sister wrote my profile. I had zero intervention on it, and I didn’t look twice at what she’s written.” A shrug. “I don’t care anyhow. I’ve already uninstalled it. It’s no longer needed.”

“No?” She tilts her head, her hair spilling down her arm. “Why not?”

“Why not, Christine?” I laugh, the sound coming off easily. I have never laughed this much. No one has ever made me feel this light. As in ever. “Because I’ve found you. There’s no one else I want in life.”

She curls her cute nose. “Jasper, are you sure? We barely know each other. I can be a terrible person, and you’ll come to regret this.”

I cup her face in my hands. “From the moment I saw your pictures, I knew there was no one else I wanted. You’re the only one I’ve matched with on the app. You’re the one girl I’ve seen in years.” I shake my head and I hope my heart’s on my sleeve and my emotions across my face. I need her to believe me. “You’re the one my soul’s been waiting for, Christine. There’s no way you’re a terrible person. I have known you for a day and I already want to be a better man. Tell me you feel like this. Tell me you felt this connection too.”

She gasps, her hand shooting out to curl around my arm. “I do. I promise you I do, but I’m too complicated, Jasper. I don’t want my mess to hit you.”

I shake my head, bringing her even closer. “What mess, love? The debt? I’ve already taken care of it. The bank will see it gets to that fucker downstairs. He’ll pay for his crimes.”

She blinks quickly. “You’re the one who did that? He asked about someone suing him.”

Shit. She had been in danger because of me. I hug her against my chest, kissing her hair. “I’m so sorry, baby. I should have found you first. I had no idea he would come after you.”

She looks up from our embrace. “Why did you do this?”

“Because.” I chuckle, pulling back so I can look at her. “Because I’m in love with you, Christine. And I’ll do anything to make you feel happy and safe. This whole thing with the debt was not your fault. You’re a beautiful, trusting woman, and I’ll work hard every day to be worthy of you.”

She licks at her lips, her gaze swaying from my eyes to my mouth. “I don’t know, Jasper, I mean, look at us. We’re nothing alike. I don’t even have a job.”

That hits me like a rock. “You don’t?”

“No, my boss fired me before lunch.”

“Ooh.” I roll my eyes, pulling her to my lap. She lets me, her hips resting perfectly over mine. “That fool. He didn’t tell you what would happen to the studio after it was sold?”

She blinks. “No. How did you know the studio was sold?”

I grin. “I bought it, baby. For you. You still have a job, but you’re your own boss now.”

She chokes. “Jasper! You didn’t have to!”

“I didn’t, but I wanted to.” I pepper kisses down her cheeks. “I love you. Tell me you want this, Christine. Fuck, my heart has been convulsing with pain ever since you left me.”

Her hold on me tightens, and she brushes her lips against mine. “I do! God, I love you too! I thought I was such a fool for falling this fast, this hard for someone.”

“You’re not,” I kiss her. “You’re not. We’ve just been waiting for one another, so things happen fast.”

“They do,” she nods several times and lets me take her lips between mine.

And between kisses, I manage to pull the rings from my pocket and propose. She accepts and cries as I lie her down. I tell her how much I love her that night, over and over as I take her. Claim her.

No rubber needed as we truly join one another.

And we won’t be parted. Nevermore.

  FIVE YEARS LATER

  JASPER

  D

arting up the corner, I keep my pace up. My breath leaves me in soft gasps as I keep my rhythm up the steep street — one last sprint so the dogs will get the last of their energy out. Four leashes loosely hang from my fingers as we approach the kennel, and I can hear the symphony inside, letting me know we’re not the only ones who have arrived.

Up front, manning the desk, I meet Daniel as we walk in. He lifts his eyes from a form he’s filling and smiles. “Hey, there, Mr. Woods. How was it?”

Feeling a drop of sweat gliding down my back, I glance at the four dogs, tongues lolling out their mouths, wide, bright eyes as they look up at me. “It was fine, Daniel. Everything is perfect.”

“Glad to hear, sir. Mrs Woods has just arrived. She’s in the back.” He juts a thumb over his shoulder to the inner corridors where we keep the dogs.

  “Thanks, Daniel.”

Our humane society is young, as young as our youngest daughter, barely two years old. But it’s going fine. We’ve managed to fuse two other societies that were on the brink of bankruptcy, so no dogs went back into the streets. All of them are safe in here. The backyard is vast enough they can have some space to hang out and run around when the other employees are in. No one but Christine and I are volunteers. I pay the others to be sure they put their time and brains into it.

Christine has been wanting to do something like this forever, and I do whatever she wants. After gifting her the studio — which she runs with several employees — it was time to start something like this for her.

Saturdays are the days we take to come here, check things out, be sure everything is running smoothly. Daniel does the paperwork to check how it’s going. After Christine came into my life, I’ve changed. I’ve become someone new. One of the things I had to improve was my relationship with my employees. Including nerve-frayed Daniel. She’s turned me into a new, better man.

Christine and I take turns walking the dogs. I don’t like the idea of her running alone, but there are too many dogs and they get quite frisky when they’re all together. So I trained Oreo to tag along and put two bodyguards following. Just to be sure.

With the birth of our daughters, I have come to terms that there’s nothing better or more important in life. My kids, yes, but Christine... Christine comes first in everything. I don’t know what I would do without her.

I can’t bear the idea of existing in a world without her. Which is why I take every precaution, including the large number of bodyguards stationed up and down the street, and around our house, always keeping an eye on her. I abhor remembering the dark days of my life without her light.

As I walk the dogs into the kernel and back into each of their cages, I see her in the back. My angel, brushing one of the dogs before meeting my eyes.

“Hey,” she says in that voice that makes me rock-hard. She could say anything in that tone really, and it would still drive me half-mad. “How was it?”

  She undulates her h
ips in my direction and runs her small fingers up my chest. Christine’s pupils widen as every other time we were next to one another. My cock pulses against her belly, ready to take her. Gripping her around her waist, I lean to breathe her scent in.

A growl leaves me. Her aroma drives lust through my body. “It was fine. But not as fine as fucking you in the storage is going to be.”

She bites the corner of her lips. “Oh? When is that going to happen?” She glues her body to mine, every curve and every inch against my sweat-coated shirt. “I mean,” her voice drops to a coarse whisper, “Daniel’s right there.”

“He is.” I brush my lips against hers. “I don’t care. You’ll just have to be quiet.”

“Quiet?” She twists her lips to a side. “I don’t know. Every time you take me, it’s like I lose control.”

And I fucking love it. Skimming down her sides, I groan in bone-deep satisfaction at her choice of leggings and a tank top. Luckily, she’s driven her with me. I couldn’t stomach any other man seeing her like this if I was not present. Her breasts and hips are deliciously on display. She’s grown into a goddess after the girls’ pregnancies.

And my mouth’s watering. “You can lose all the control you want, baby,” I tell her. “I’ll be right here every time, ready to take it from you.”

She shudders and grips the collar of my shirt. “Then show me how it is to be under your control, love.”

  “As you wish.”

Her words drive heat through my body. The best I can do not to take her right then and there is to pull her up to my arms. Her legs sling around my waist instinctively, and I stride to the back, shutting the door of the storage behind us. Pressing her body to the door, I feast on her mouth and neck and devour her sounds. Once she’s squirming, her juices soaking through her pants, I turn her around, tug her leggings down around her knees and thrust my fat manhood deep inside her. Until the dogs howl along with us. Until she screams my name, letting the whole block know she belongs to me.

To me, as I belong to her.

For the rest of our lives.
