Maisy groaned as he finally sank fully inside, her legs falling to the side to offer him better access as she panted beneath him. Taking most of his weight on one thick forearm, Zohar reached between them to search for that special bundle of nerves he knew would send her skywards.

The moment he touched it she jerked beneath him, a scream tearing from her throat, as she fell apart beneath him. He’d never seen a woman climax so fast, but it was only the beginning. She’d be a quivering mess by the time he’d finished.

He started to thrust slowly, careful not to harm her, building her back toward another orgasm with each twist of his hips. Maisy’s eyes refocused, surprised and excited. “Shit, you’re good, big guy.”

“Hold on, Ангел мой, my Angel, I want you to let the whole damn Pack know you’re mine.”

Her head twisted from side to side, sweat slicking their bodies as he moved quicker, his cock filling her deeper with each thrust. Maisy’s groans growing louder until she was shouting his name over and over, her hands clinging to him, nails digging into his skin. Shifting position slightly, he pulled back, removing his cock from her sheath, much to Maisy’s dismay.

Her shocked squeal causing him to chuckle as he grabbed his length in one of his hands and rubbed the head against her clit. “How does that feel?”

Maisy’s mouth opened, closed, then her hips bucked, moving herself against him, rubbing her little bundle of nerves against him. “More!” she yelled, her voice pleading as she stared up at him.

Zohar could wait no longer, the need to claim her stampeding through him to consume and overwhelm him completely. He sank his cock back inside her, his finger thrumming against her clit at the same time as he allowed his fangs to descend. He lowered his head, sinking his teeth into her soft skin as he thrust deep inside her, again and again.

As her sweet blood swept over his tongue he felt her bite him, the pain gloriously perfect, at the precise moment his seed erupted deep inside her she quivered with her own orgasm, screaming his name so loud he was certain the entire world heard. Zohar tore his mouth free, rearing back to roar to the heavens, and alert the world that he’d sealed his bond with his soulmate.

His first inhale of breath was magnificent, her scent changed to depict her new status as his. He couldn’t stop the resultant howl that broke free as, for the first time in his entire life, as emotions he’d never felt engulfed him: happiness, contentment, and love.

Maisy lay curled up in Zohar’s arms in the middle of the forest, a smile playing on her lips as he held her. He ran a hand along her side, to convince himself that she was real and he wasn’t dreaming. “Are you all right?”

She looked up at him, smiling. “Yes, I’m more than all right. I feel wonderful. Stronger, somehow. That’s weird, huh?”

Zohar shrugged. “I’m not sure. I don’t know much about all this stuff, but maybe you get some of my strength. I’ve a lot to go around.”

“I’m sure you do, big guy,” she quipped, smacking his chest. “What was that you called me earlier? Was it Russian?”

He nodded. “You mean, Ангел мой? It means my Angel, and that’s what I think you are. The Goddess sent you to me to save me, Maisy. I was heading to a very dark place and finding you has happened at just the right time. I think you are Солнышко моё, which means my sunshine, the light to brighten the darkness inside me.”

Maisy stared at him, silent for several long moments before she answered. “That’s deep, Zohar, but if that’s what you believe then who am I to argue. For me, it’s different, to me you are my savior. You’re the proverbial Knight in shining armor. You saved not just me but the entire Pack. Guess the Goddess knew what she was doing when she sent you here, huh?”

“I guess she did,” Zohar agreed. “I’ve never been one to believe in all of that Goddess stuff before, but I do now. I can feel the changes inside me and you are the reason, Ангел мой. So, thank you for not sending me on my way earlier.”

Maisy slapped his chest, giggling. “What? Send you away when you were right there, all naked, and showing me this glorious body? Damn, there was no way that was going to happen.”

Zohar grinned, pulling her closer to kiss the top of her head as she asked, “How do I pronounce that second one? The Angel one I think I can just about manage, but that other one is a bit of a mouthful.”

“It’s easy, once you know how,” he replied softly. “It’s solnishko moy.”

Maisy repeated it, slowly. “Solnishko moy. It’s beautiful when you say it. Not so much when I fumble over it.”

He shook his head, disagreeing. “You sound adorable and I’ll teach you how to say it properly. It just takes a little practice. So, what do you want to do now?”

“Can we go back to my place? I want to continue what we started here, but I’d like to try it in a bed next time.”

Zohar chuckled as he rose, picking her up easily. “Certainly. I just need to check in with Danko that he doesn’t need me.”

“Oh, sure.” She nodded. “If you need to work, well . . .”

“I’m not going to work,” Zohar told her firmly. “But I just need to make sure there’s no trouble brewing. I have a feeling that Jermaine might still try to get his hands on the cash he left here and I don’t want the Pack in danger.”

“Of course.” Maisy looked around them, shivering. “If he does come back, this is where he’ll do it. The forest is the easiest way to get to the camp without being seen.”

Zohar couldn’t stop the snarl that lifted his lip, his fangs descended at the mere thought of a threat to his mate as he looked around, scenting for anyone nearby. When he found no evidence of Jermaine, or anyone else, he relaxed slightly, but only just.

“We need to get you back.” Zohar held her hand as they started to walk back, opening his link to Danko. “I’ll be back in camp soon. Is there anything that requires my attention?”

Zohar scowled when laughter flowed through the link, his friend taking several moments to form words.

“Wow, you actually did it. I didn’t think you’d win her over so quickly, Zohar. By the way, the entire Pack heard you so don’t think you can sneak back in as if nothing’s happened. Gwenola is already organizing a party, but she said she’ll give you two lovebirds a couple of days to, wait for it, and this is her words . . . ‘get to know one another before she throws the party.’”

Zohar groaned aloud, Maisy looking up at him and asking. “What’s wrong?”

He shook his head. “Nothing, I’m talking to Danko and it appears the Pack is aware of, well, us, and Gwenola is taking it upon herself to, shit, throw a damn party.”

Zohar stopped, grinding his teeth so hard his jaw cracked. Maisy’s hand tightened in his, her voice soothing with a hint of humor. “I see, well, that’s the usual thing to do in these circumstances, but I can see that’s not exactly thrilling you. I can talk to her and tell her not to bother. We don’t need to have the usual mating party, Zohar.”

Danko chuckled again in his head before goading him again. “So, are you ready to take your place as Alpha and show the Pack their new Alpha female?”

“Shut the fuck up, Danko, or I swear I’ll kick your ass when I see you.”

“Hey, I’m just saying.” Danko grumbled. “You’re acting Alpha and you’ve just taken yourself a mate. You need to figure out what you plan to do, my friend.”

The enormity of everything crashed down on him, causing another strangled noise to break free. “If you don’t need me just leave me be for now.”

“I’m taking care of everything. You look after your mate and figure out what you plan on doing with the rest of your life. Maybe, now you know there’s more to life than being a damn Enforcer, you’ll think of living outside the Council and get a life. Over and out.”

  “Zohar, what’s going on?”

Zohar shook his head, trying to clear it. “I’m just realizing how this changes everything.”

Maisy’s face lost all color, he
r eyes dropping to the ground. “You think you made a mistake. Don’t you? You didn’t realize what having a mate meant and now you regret it.”

Her voice shook and she tried to remove her hand from his but he held firm, refusing to allow her to pull away. He did, however, admit his feelings. “I confess I didn’t really think things through. But I do not regret what we did, what I did. You are my mate, Maisy, there’s no denying that. I just have to figure out what I want and how to get that. However, what’s more important to me is what you want. So, why don’t we discuss that on our walk back to camp?”

Her head popped up, surprise evident in her gaze. “Really? You don’t regret our mating?”

“No,” Zohar answered firmly. “There’s many things I regret in my life, but this is not one of them.”

Her smile sank deep inside him, sparking a light that seemed to ease the darkness he knew dwelt there. Damn. Maybe that was the Goddess gift to him. Not merely sending him a mate . . . but one that could illuminate his very soul. The belief that was possible was like a ton of bricks had been lifted from his shoulders, even if it hadn’t happened . . . yet.

No. He still felt it deep inside, but the possibility was there and that would do for now.

“Maisy, tell me, what do you want? Do you want to stay here? Or leave?” Zohar asked, and for the first time he thought of a life away from the Council. Of not being an Enforcer, of living as a true Wolf, or rather . . . as an Alpha.

There was no other position he would be suited to within a Pack. No other option for him but to be in charge, to protect, to fight for others. It was ingrained in him and if he remained then that’s what he would be . . . Alpha.

However, if Maisy requested to leave then he would do as she wished, and yet again he was dumbfounded at the change a mating could bring. Never would he have put another before himself in such a manner . . . well, damn it . . . now he knew how Shade had felt and why he’d called in that damn favor.

Maisy leaned into his body, raising their joined hands to kiss his fingers. “I’d like to stay and help the Pack become strong again. If that’s all right? If you don’t want to then I’ll go wherever you want, Zohar. So long as we’re together, that’s all that matters. Right?”

Zohar spun around, scooping her up in his arms and cradling her against his chest. Carrying her through the forest. “I hope you got plenty of my strength through our bond, Maisy.”

  She looked confused. “Um, why?”

He chuckled. “I’ll stay, and I’ll ensure the Pack grows, gets strong, and profitable, but there’s only one position for me and that means there’s only one for you too . . . Alpha.”

He saw the moment his words sank in, her mouth forming a circle as she gasped. “Oh.”

“Indeed.” He winked. “Are you ready?”

Maisy nibbled her bottom lip for a moment before she looked cheekily up at him. “Maybe after a couple of days alone time I will be.”

Laughter erupted from him as she giggled in his arms, the sound like tinkling glass. “I’ll always be right there beside you and you’ll have my strength to lean on.”

“I’ll need it.” Maisy shook her head. “Shit, I can’t believe this. Everything’s happening so fast and my head is in a spin.”

Her smile dropped from her face, sadness filling her eyes, her head falling to his chest. Zohar strode quicker to reach the camp as he asked, “What’s wrong? Are you ill?”

“No,” she whispered. “I just wish Libby was here. She’d be so proud to see me not being a gibbering scaredy cat.”

Zohar gave her a squeeze, not sure how to respond but knowing she was in pain forced him to try. “I’ve seen things during my time as an Enforcer, stuff that can’t be explained, so I’m sure your friend is looking down on you and knows you’re now safe and happy.”

It sounded lame to him but Maisy seemed to like it, her fingers reaching up to entwine in his hair. “Thanks, I hope so.”

“We’re not far from where we undressed earlier.” Zohar remembered exactly the spot where he’d first seen Maisy’s golden beast.

“Good, because I don’t think we should parade through camp stark naked.” Maisy slapped his tattooed chest. “I might get jealous if anyone sees this fine body of yours, especially this rather sexy ink you’ve got going on.”

“I’m liable to rip a throat out if you’re seen naked, Волк Мой,” Zohar replied, his voice suddenly hoarse. “I’m not sure how I’ll react if another male comes near you right now. This mating thing is rather intense.”

“I agree.” Maisy nuzzled his neck. “It’s why newly mated couples stay locked away for a while. Keeps them, and everyone else, safe.”

“Good, because I have plans for you,” Zohar growled as he stopped where Maisy’s clothes lay, but before he released her, he dropped his lips to hers with a searing kiss full of scorching heat.

His focus on her lips, her taste, her scent, so much so he wasn’t aware they were no longer alone until an embarrassed cough had him dropping her roughly to the ground and pushing her behind him. His face contorted in a vicious snarl as he spun to face the interloper.

Danko’s bowed head his saving grace. If his long-time friend’s eyes had landed on Maisy’s naked body Zohar was certain he would not have been able to stop himself from attacking, instead a growl rumbled up from his chest, breaking free as he crossed his arms. “What the fuck, Danko? You looking to get your head parted from your body?”

“My sincere apologies.” Danko kept his eyes down as he talked. “I only wanted to warn you that the camp is full of people and thought you might want to skirt around rather than walk through. I’m aware you’ll be . . . well, not quite yourself, Zohar.”

Maisy’s hand softly caressed his back, calming Zohar, both man and beast, taking in a deep breath he forced himself to respond. “Thank you, I’ll take that advice. We’ll be going to Maisy’s for now. I expect to be there for some time and I do not want to be disturbed. Not unless there is an emergency.”

Danko’s head bobbed in a short nod as he backed away. “Understood, and I’d like to be the first to congratulate you both. I wish you a long and happy life together.”

Maisy stuck her head around Zohar’s side. “Thank you.”

Zohar pushed her back. “Thank you, Danko, that’s all for now, you can leave.”

“I’m going,” Danko answered, quickly backtracking. “I’ll see you at the celebration, until then, I’ll ensure everything is taken care of.”

“Thanks,” Zohar said with more feeling. “I appreciate it.”

“No problem,” Danko said as he disappeared.

Maisy popped around, her arms attempting to wrap around his waist, however, he was much too large and her reach didn’t come close. “Zohar, he’s so nice helping out so we can have time together. I’m just thinking . . . if you decide to stay, and well, you’ll be Alpha and all . . . won’t you need a good Beta?”

Zohar cocked his head, the thought swirling around in his head. “That’s a good idea, however, I’m not certain Danko would want to stay. If I leave the Council, then he’ll be next in line to take my place as their top Enforcer. That might be a position he wants more than a Beta’s.”

“Maybe, maybe not.” Maisy ran a finger along the lines of his Wolf tattoo. “But it’s worth thinking about and giving him the option. Dontcha think?”

“Sure,” Zohar agreed, the seed planted and growing by the second.

He could almost see himself and Danko running the Pack side by side and knew they’d do a fine job. They worked well together and if he were to stay then there was no better man, or Wolf, he’d rather have beside him.

Those decisions were for another time, another day, for now all he wanted was time alone with his Maisy, his sunshine, his Angel, his savior.

“Let’s get dressed and home,” he managed to get out, his throat thick with longing, running a finger down the side of her face. “I need to be inside you, Maisy, and watch as I make you come, again
and again.”

She moved her face into his touch, her pupils dilating, her tongue darting out to lick her lips as she nodded. “Me too, big guy.”

Maisy paraded back and forth, asking for the hundredth time. “Are you sure I look okay? I can change back into the black dress if you prefer that one. Or the red? You said you liked the red one but I think the red was too short.”

Zohar shook his head, amused and pointing at the mound of clothes strewn around. “I can’t believe the amount that was delivered earlier. How many outfits do you need to choose from for one night?”

Maisy stopped, hands on hips and scowled at him. “One night? It’s not just any old night, Zohar. It’s our mating party and since you've decided to stay and you’re the freaking Alpha, that means I’m going to be the Alpha She-Wolf. Do you have any idea what that means to me? It’s huge with a capital H! No wonder Gwenola sent all this stuff for me to try on. I need to look the part, especially as the Pack are used to seeing me as a scared little mouse. They’re not used to seeing the new me. The one that’s got some of your strength and that feels strong and powerful, and . . . shit, I’m gonna muck this up. I just know it!”

Zohar unfurled himself from the armchair, grabbing hold of her hands and quieting her rising panic. “Shh, stop getting yourself upset. You’ll be fine. You look beautiful, but not just that, you look like an Alpha. You were right about the red dress, it’s too short, but I like it and we’ll keep it for just our time together. The black was nice too, but it was too formal. This one is perfect, the green is a match for your eyes and sets the right tone. Not too casual and not too formal.”

Maisy let out the breath she’d been holding, asking quickly. “You’re sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure. The only thing I’m not sure about is the need for this party. I’d much rather spend some more time here, alone with you.”

“Me too.” Maisy grinned. “But we can’t stay hidden away for much longer. We’ve already been here for five whole days. The Pack is getting restless. I can feel it, Zohar.”
