  About

  What Happens in Miami

Can a fake marriage turn into something more?

It was a night to remember... too bad there's parts of it that I can’t.

I hit the most popular club in the city, sweet-talked my way into the VIP section and danced my ass off, then I boarded a private jet and from there... I remember nothing. I woke up in a fancy hotel, surrounded by people I don’t know and have never seen before.

Even more surprising, there’s a giant diamond ring on my left hand. Turns out, I married the son of the Mayor of San Francisco.

It’s a total mistake, a drunken joke, a problem to be solved quick before anyone finds out, only my new husband has a different plan.

He has a secret, but most of all he has a reputation to fix and he needs me to help him.

He begs me to play along with this fake marriage and I agree.

Only, somewhere along the way, the lines started to blur, the crowds and strangers faded away, and it became just the two of us, together, against the world.

Is there any chance all our lies can lead to love?

Or will the truth come out and ruin everything we tried so hard to protect.

  Prologue

“Witnesses are reporting that the son of San Francisco’s Mayor, Kenneth Richards, Devin got married after a wild night that began in the city and ended in Miami.

The woman in question hasn’t been linked to young Richards before, does that just mean that the relationship has been a secret this whole time?

  More at 7.”

  Chapter One

  Connie

The floor is vibrating beneath my heels and large hands are on my hips as I grind my ass into the man behind me. I have zero interest in him, I’m just passing time, until the hot guy that I’ve had my eye on all night approaches me.

I could make the first move, but what’s the fun in that?

We’ve been eye fucking one another all night and ever since this dude behind me entered my dance space, Mr. V.I.P. has had a scowl on his face, even when speaking to someone else, he has had me in his eyesight.

He’s extremely attractive. I’m not certain in the flashing lights, but he seems to have dark brown hair, long on top and short on the sides. He has a 5’o’clock shadow, that I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or just because that’s the way he is. The collar of his dress shirt is unbuttoned, with his tanned chest peeking out. There’s also a squint to his eyes, like he’s trying to decipher something, but it’s his natural stare. His thin lips open to a dazzling white smile and there’s just something about him that looks like he knows something I don’t.

I want to know what he knows. I want him to tell me his secrets.

The large hands move around my hips and to my bare stomach, pressing me against him, I can feel his erection, with part of me cringing at the touch making me want to push his hands away, but instead I lean back against him and go with it, close my eyes and I smile while we move to the music.

The song changes, but the grasp on me doesn’t. We continue dancing and after a moment, I dare to open my eyes, only to find the man from the V.I.P. area standing less than five feet away, at the end of the dance floor. He has his arms crossed over his chest and a scowl on his face.

I’m rather enjoying the cat and mouse game, and not wanting to give in just yet.

I turn in the stranger’s arms and one of his hands lands automatically on my ass, pulling me into him, with one of his legs between mine. I don’t think I’ve danced this close to a guy since I used my fake I.D. in high school. I had forgotten that it’s basically dry humping in public without getting arrested. I silently laugh to myself.

One moment, there’s a palm on my ass and a man in front of me. The next, he’s pushing away from me with a grimace and shouting at someone over my shoulder.

I turn my head slightly, and see the mystery man staring down the stranger. His gaze is intense and shooting daggers at him. Staring down at him with a silent message to back off.

I look back at my dance partner, he holds up his hands and begins to back away.

“What the hell was that? Who do you think you are?” I scowl at Mr. V.I.P., even though I’m excited about his presence.

“You don’t know who I am?” He smirks.

“If I knew who you were, I wouldn’t have asked you. So, you must think that your hot shit, if you imply that I must know you.” I glare at him. “What the hell was that?”

“You and I have been staring at one another all night, I thought that this was a game, where you used him to get at me. It sure as fuck helped, but you could have just walked up to me instead, rather than play a game.”

I shake my head and lie. “I don’t play games.”

“How about you come up to V.I.P. with me, and we’ll get acquainted?” he asks.

“I would love to, but I can’t abandon my friend.” I tell him pointing to Becca, my best friend who is dancing, minding her own business a few feet away, completely unaware of what’s happening.

“She can come too,” he holds out his hand and offers me a swoon worthy smile.

I put up my hand and turn to Becca and invade her dance space.

/>   “What?” she asks after I tug on her hand.

“This hot guy is inviting us up to V.I.P.,” I tell her hitching my thumb in the direction of the mystery man.

“Are you sure? Looks can be deceiving.”

“It’s not like I’m marrying the guy, we’re just going to have a few free drinks.”

She shrugs and we turn to him.

  “Lead the way,” I say.

He offers the both of us his arms and we loop ours through them, as he leads us up to the V.I.P. section.

“So, what’s your name? Why are you all fancy in the V.I.P. section? I don’t think I’ve ever seen this area full. Are you a celebrity? No, that can’t be it, I don’t recognize you. You do look a little bit like Scott Eastwood, but you’re totally not.” Becca shakes her head as she thinks out loud.

The mystery man says nothing as he leads us up the stairs. Once we’re past the velvet rope and the big scary man who looks like a mercenary, we head straight to the back of the space, where a couch sits behind three buckets each with bottles in them.

  Chapter Two

  Devin

  She’s hot.

I’m not going to lie and say that she hasn’t caught my eye all night.

And when that steroid pumping asshole grabbed her ass, that was the last straw. I wasn’t going to sit on my high perch and watch him paw at her, when it should be my hands on her instead.

I did what every man should do, when the object of his affection is blatantly ignoring you, I took it back.

I lead her and her friend up to the lounge and pour them each a cranberry and vodka, not even considering asking them if that’s a drink they prefer. It doesn’t matter, the drink is free and everyone here is drinking vodka.

She says that she doesn’t know who I am, so I’m going to use that to my advantage. I’m not a celebrity, but I’m a figure that doesn’t exactly have my life private. My father is Mayor Ken Richards, and I am his only child. And I like to have a good time.

So, in a way, yes, I am a celebrity. The local news keeps tabs on me, the paparazzi sometimes have nothing better to do, than follow me around and sometimes, just sometimes, I’m forgetful and do something incredibly stupid.

Is this something that would qualify as something stupid?

Probably not, but you never know.

I paid off the club to keep this area to my group and to keep out anyone they recognize as press, so far, it’s paid off and so far, I’ve had complete privacy and protection for anyone in my group. It’s refreshing to not see a camera and having to act a certain way.

“So, what’s your name?” She takes a seat next me and ask loudly so I could hear.

  “Devin, and you?”

  “My name is Constance.”

“Constance sounds like an old ladies name, no offense.” I say smiling so she knows that I’m kidding.

“Tell me about it. My parents were going for bringing back the oldies, it was too late to realize that nothing was being brought back,” she smiles, finishing her drink.

“Looks like we have a thirsty girl.”

After a flight, a nap, and then seven hours later we’re going strong. Thankfully Felipe was able to get my requests taken care of with just a few pushing of buttons, and we’re all closing up our night from partying hard celebrating as we stumble into the bedroom in a tangle of arms and legs.

  Chapter Three

  Connie

I hear seagulls, waves crashing, and snoring.

I roll from my stomach to my back, and the motion alone rattles my brain and makes me cringe.

Holy mother loving hell! What did I ever do to deserve this kind of body ache and hangover?

I don’t even want to open my eyes, but I really would love to put a pillow over Becca’s head. Why is she snoring so loudly? How much did we drink last night? And how did we get home?

Moving would mean that more body parts hurt, but I really need to use the bathroom and maybe even nudge Becca to move onto her side.

Why does it sound like it’s a constant stream of snoring, like there’s no breathing in between breaths?

I carefully move back onto my side, hopefully with my back to her, pull the pillow over my head to mute her out and catch a little more sleep.

A door is slammed somewhere in the room and my eyes flutter open at the sudden noise. The snoring beside me gets louder, and then stops. Only to start back up after a minute.

I roll onto my back and my tired eyes land on the ceiling fan.

There’s no ceiling fan in my bedroom. There’s not a ceiling fan in Becca’s room either.

  Where am I?

My breathing quickens and I start to silently panic.

What if I went home with a complete stranger?

What if I went home with that creepy muscly guy from the dance floor?

What if I went home with Devin?

The snoring beside me continues, and I’m grateful for Becca’s presence beside me.

  My head swings to her.

Only the person beside me is not Becca.

The person beside me is… Devin.

  Panic ensues.

What am I doing here? Where is here?

  And where is Becca?

Despite the pain that radiates through my body at the sudden intrusion of movement, I push up in bed. I look around and there’s a wall of windows on one end and a wall with a closed door, that I can only assume is the bathroom. Across from me is another entryway, which I can tell from where I’m sitting is a hallway that leads to another room.

I look again at the handsome man from last night.

  Devin.

He has the sheet around his hips. He’s breathing steadily, with noises erupting from his throat, which is the source of the snoring that I’ve heard all morning.

So then, who is in the bathroom? Is it Becca?

I push against Devin’s shoulder, hoping that the movement wakens him.

After a few more shoulder shoves, he awakens and runs his hand over his face before he turns to me and appears to focus on my presence. With a lazy smile, he moves to his side, lifts up a little and puts his hand underneath his head.

“Well, good morning there beautiful,” he grins.

  “Devin? What—what happened last night?”

“You don’t remember?” he asks, his smile turning into a frown again.

“I remember a little bit, but I am a little foggy on all the details. Did we get on a plane last night?” I pull the covers up and my hand grazes across something hard.

I glance down and see a sizable princess cut diamond with a silver band on my ring finger and I’m suddenly lightheaded. My head hits the pillow as I hold my hand up, looking at it with my other hand covering my mouth.

“Devin!” I say in a high-pitched tone. “What is this? Why is this on my hand?”

“How much did you drink last night?” he laughs rolling onto his back.

I swing my head to look at him, shocked. “You were the person who fed me the drinks. Wait, where is Becca?” I sit back up.

“Relax, she’s in the other room. There’s like three bedrooms in this suite,” he says flippantly.

“Devin! What is on my finger?” I ask.

“Well, sweetheart, it looks like it’s a ring. Seriously, do you not remember that part from last night?” he returns to his side and looks at me. “You’re totally fucking with me, right?”

“Nope. And why is that? Seriously, we had what, two drinks?” I ask.

“Love, we had more than two drinks and then we continued on with the night for several hours beyond that. Shit, you really don’t remember, do you?” his smile turns into a frown.

I shake my head, but the movement pains me. “No. I mean yes. I remember being in the V.I.P. section with you. Some making out in a corner or two. Wait, we talked about doing stuff to help one another. Right? But I’m fuzzy on how that involves a ring on my finger. Wait, where are we?”

“I think in order to address this conversation
, we need to not be naked in bed together, otherwise, I feel as if I may get distracted by being here in a bed with you.” Devin says as the bathroom door opens.

I turn my head in that direction and see a man emerge from the steam of the shower billowing from the bathroom. The mans skin glistens from the water droplets and he has a towel around his waist.

“Ah, good you two are finally up,” he walks to the other side of the bed, drop his towel, giving me a damn good glance at his cock which is quite impressive at the non-aroused state he’s in and slides into the bed behind Devin.

His arms wrap around Devin’s waist on top of the covers and he perches his chin on Devin’s shoulder.

What the ever-living fuck is happening.

My mouth is dry, and I can’t bring any words to form as I take in the scene.

  1. I’m naked in bed.

  2. Devin appears to also be naked here in bed, beside me.

  3. I have a huge ring on the finger that is deemed for my future husband.

  4. This really hot naked man, just crawled into bed beside Devin and is now spooning him.
